Yeh Dre verse would have not sounded right or hit the same if it had the beat to it. It sounds like it was made specifically for no drums so it make sense that that was his intention.

Bun said he sent it to both. Both responded 3k said he like the melody not the drums. Big said he like the drums not the melody. That’s why their verses in the song are different from the rest.

Fresh out of prison he bought a grey Bentley, while shooting a video in Port Author, police chasing a car ran into him totaling the vehicle. He then “Bought me Red” Bentley. I still have all of my dad's records in 45 and his other stuff music wise so he still lives with me all the time. Also just so you know outkast is originally from Savannah Georgia which is where I'm from and I actually got to see them before they blew up before they got big and moved to Atlanta and they were always this way their original crew was awesome I wish you could have seen them when they first started.

23:51 YES!!!! Huge OutKast fan here this song came out in 2007 2 years after I graduated HS and it was huge when it came out, MTV had some behind the scenes from the music video filming, you’d here it banging all over the hood when it came out and today you still here it at millennial weddings regularly! It was as new and different and unique when it released as your take on seeing it for the first time 17 years later! Also Bun B has spoken about it in interviews speaking on the creation of the song and music video and its insane! BOTH Andre 3000 & Big Boi heard the song that UGK had done and they both individually with out knowing the other was doing the same contacted Bun and wanted to do their own verses BUT they wanted to change the beats (Dre wanted no beat & Big wanted to change the drums!) so they both submitted them and they made the record under the stipulation that OutKast didnt want to do a music video so Bun B got the label to hire brain barber that was the director OutKast would use for all there videos and gave Andre creative control over the video so the whole video was Andre’s idea based on his verse! Also Andre 3000 said Pimp C was PISSED when they got Andre’s verse and he was just talking with no beat! He wanted him to redo it and was upset until Bun convinced him it would sound better and set the stage for his verse. Oh & BUN B has said there is a version of the song with all 3 groups OutKast, UGK, & 36 Mafia! This song & video are an instant Hip hop classic and iconic work of art and one of the most incredible tracks to come from that era of southern rap.

I love how this goes from a poetry reading to a bouncy hood track in flick of the wrist by the deejay (DJ Paul of Triple 6 Mafia) Legendary track of the South indeed. One of our anthems indeed. RIP Chad Butler aka Pimp C

So, (😉) it was originally meant to be for the “Underground Mafia”, the UGK & Three 6 Mafia collab project that never quite got off the ground mostly due to Pimp C’s incarceration (Sippin On Syrup, Like A Pimp, On Some Chrome) were some tracks they’d done although years apart) and it obviously ended when Pimp C passed. Three 6 Mafia’s record label didn’t want them on the track cos they’d just won their Oscar so blocked them from appearing as artists, hence OutKast getting involved. The “remix” that ended up as a bonus track on the album is technically the original version as it features just Three 6 and UGK (of this, but still based on the Project Pat one! 😮‍💨). 🙏🏼 ps keep up the good work guys, appreciate the love you show for the music and dad’s willingness to learn and be open, it’s so refreshing to watch. Biggups!!
