The bolts with the springs were probably what was used to mount the water tank. 20 year heavy mechanic and that’s my guess. 😎🇺🇸
@user12678 Жыл бұрын
The big bolts with springs are for holding the bed down. Water\ tanker trucks use a plate and spring system when holding the tank on. Look up tanker truck and zoom in on the frame and you should see 2-4 of these on each mounting point
@shannonmartin2619 Жыл бұрын
Those bolts with the springs on them are for securing the bed to the truck. They allow for movement with the chassis flex. This prevents fatigue on the bed construction. Prevents metal cracking etc
@majorrimaha4437 Жыл бұрын
Yes they are exactly the same as ones on my truck, it means the bed and load can roll sideways while the truck stays on the ground, in my country there is a safe maximum of 12° sideways roll left and right.
@twwtb Жыл бұрын
Massive improvement. As others have said, those big springs are for mounting the water tank to the frame. Take a close look at the trucks you see with a custom body attached to the frame and you'll start seeing those springs on a lot of them.
@thomasjohnson232 Жыл бұрын
The box on the right is called a tachograph it was used to monitor the speed,engine rpm and idle time. The hole on the left was for a tachograph that kept track of time it was used as a drivers time card back in the day
@timwelihan5851 Жыл бұрын
Those little white buttons on the right side of the dash are circuit breakers, they'll pop out and you just push in to reset. If you want to access the driver's side dash wiring just unbolt the steering column at the bottom of the dash. It's the single bolt on the left side of the column. Unscrew your top screws and everything is literally in your lap. Really well thought out design on those 359s, easy to work on and tough as nails. I had a 85 extended hood back in the day, it turned heads going down the road. I wish you good times with your new project, it's a piece of American excellence in design and function. Four States truck parts in Joplin Missouri use to have parts like steering wheels and the Pete horn buttons, and a whole bunch of shiny stuff for 359s. Have fun with your new ride, the more you work on it the more you'll appreciate the engineer's and designers at the red oval (Peterbilt)
@jeffzorza1830 Жыл бұрын
Your PTO is (was) the first switch at the front of the box that has the rest of your switches for the water tank spray bars. The 2 disconnected air lines went to it, the round hole had a dumby light in it so you’d know when the PTO was engaged. The missing hole in your dash opposite of your Speedo should be your tachometer. The large spring with the bolt you found on the floor board is or the water tank carriage, there would have been a few of those used to bolt the tank carriage to your frame rails so that the water tank would be bolted down and have some flex with your frame. I’m actually headed to Prineville in the morning to drop off a family member for the holidays.

The device missing is a Tachograph. Those models could have 2, the 1 that's in there prob recorded RPM and Speed. The other recorded engine on/off and driving hours. There were other configurations available. Basically its the predecessor to the modern day Electric Logging Devices.
@justinmize4316 Жыл бұрын
That other hole is for either a RPM Guage or a time clock style log system. I’d look at finding a different dash from a salvage yard. It would be easier to find and make dash complete.

You need one of the tube shaped leaf blowers - they are fantastic for cleaning out stuff like that because they move so much air. I've watched them blowing silage off combines with them so picked one up to blow my maple tree leaves, and this is the first one that will actually blow the spinners! Oh -the fasteners are Dzus fasteners (the long ones that you were missing one of for that fold down dash)

That is a hole for the clock that is in it it also shows the speed and hours that the truck has worked . the company used to use them to keep track of what the driver did for speed and hours worked . There is a paper disk that goes to that clock ,it is called a tattle teal by company drivers if you lok you will see a cutter on it for the disk to put it in and out when you are through with your days work . On the dash tou can get the screws for the dash like the ones that are in it or different ones .

Good to bring it back, should be good and able working truck. I'm thinking you would have been better off using a H.D. shop vac with a hepa filter for initial cleaning. Pull all bolts and msl. stuff out box up. Douse with bleach n water or lysol to soak in and cut down chance of catching something. Then good scrub brush. Darned if Armour All or like stuff gets on floor and pedals. I had a bottle of it leak out in passenger side floor of a car. That stuff was still slick as greasy glass when I changed vehicle few years later.

The bolts with big springs on them are bed mount bolts. They hard mount one end and use springs like this the rest of the way down to allow the frame to move a little. Don't know why they did it that way but there's a good chance that is exactly what those bolts are for.

The odd thing is the tattle tail / how fast ,what gear ,rpm over speed , speedo missing possible cable drive off output shaft too or repurposed for tattle tail drive as well as rpm pickup sender spliced into slot is for print out card how long fill up how slow sprayed the water , bla, bla, bla,more later ...the buttons are resets no fuse buttons pop out push backin to reset after 2--3 minutes so loom doesn't melt so fast...
