There's too much information missing for me to make a judgement... 1. We don't know if the changes are going to be short term, or long term. If it's short term, the spouse jumped the gun and in a very bad way just like the comments, because things do change over time. Businesses don't get successful overnight and thinking otherwise on that is a very unrealistic expectation, which is exposing his impatience. If it's long term, then he has a valid point. 2. Another unknown is if OP and the spouse has had the work/life balance issue before in their relationship. If there hasn't been an issue here before, then there's a much bigger problem here, and it's not all on OP. If there is, then OP needs to make some serious changes to her own life despite OP following her passions in life. 3. The third unknown is the spouse's stance on things in his life changing. If he is wanting things to stay the same to the letter, then part of the issue here is really on him because he refuses to allow things in his life to change in certain ways. People WILL change over time, and in just about every way. Why do people tend to change their careers a few times over their lifetime on average? 4. Fourth unknown is how the spouse is with OP's family outside the sister. I feel there's a much bigger issue at hand here, which adds on from #2.

There's too much information missing for me to make a judgement, and people need to realise that businesses, especially small ones, do NOT become successful overnight - thinking otherwise on that is a very unrealistic expectation. Some businesses take several months to years to get off the ground if it gets off the ground at all (a friend of mine has her own business, which is a non-profit, where it took her quite some time to get it to where it is now due to changing the direction of it along with the name and location at least once). The spouse has to have some patience on what could very well be a short-term change; and if he is not a fan of change like that, then it's best for them to split because of incompatibility tied to changes in people because people WILL change over time. Having the same exact pattern 24/7 will bore people after a while.

*ALL MY VOTES* STORY 2: *YTA* If you borrow money without asking that is called STEALING. Especially when you’re taking that huge chunk of change. A 5K wedding dress is nowhere near an emergency that requires taking money without asking from the emergency find. I hope he should have been honest with his wife and talk to her about lending money to sister. And the fact there’s absolutely no intention to pay that money back is another reason why that money should’ve been taken from the accountant. It’s 100% understandable that the wife will probably not trust her husband with money for a while and might even remove his access from whatever accounts they share. STORY 3: *NTA* Him being a backseat driver bitching about what’s on the radio, pointing where to turn, and constantly complaining how you drive, he sounds like a nightmare passenger. OP didn’t cause her husband to reach into the glove box and threw her important paperwork out the window, that was him being a dick. What of they got pulled over after they did that and the cop asked for a license and registration? OP would’ve gotten in trouble because her husband was being a brat. Glad OP found her registration & him throwing up on the way home was probably a lie to make OP feel bad. He seems like a huge crybaby. “You viciously kicked me out of the car now I’m terrified of being sick around you ever again“ 🙄 After listening to the comments he might be a druggie abusing pills like some suggested. I would seriously reconsider the relationship before one of his tantrums for not getting what he wants evolves into “ I hit you? Well it’s your fault I punched you in the face. You caused me to hit you“ STORY 4: *YTA* OP knew how important that ring was to his girlfriend so it should’ve been 100% off-limits. Girlfriend said she didn’t even want to wear the ring herself because she was worried something might happen to it, that *SCREAMS* how important that rain was to her which of the further created common sense to leave it alone. Especially considering the Grandma recently passed away. That ring is so important to her, not only did she get upset that the diamond was removed from her grandma’s ring to be put into a new one, she probably would’ve gotten upset if OP took her grandma’s ring to get professionally cleaned and restored without her permission. You really think it’s disrespectful she won’t wear the ring because she put so much money into it, she probably thinks it’s disrespectful that you took a priceless family heirloom that meant so much and decided to pluck a diamond out of it for a new ring. OK seriously should’ve asked dude.

Note the OP scrupulously avoids telling us what the job involves, what field it's in, or anything that might help us understand what is so life-affirming about her job and therefore the husband unreasonable. Last story: "didn't find anything else I liked" That told me everything I needed to know. The OP is a MAJOR AH. It doesn't matter if he likes the ring or the idea for the ring, it's for the GF and what she likes. Ask someone else to help you shop if you're not sure what they like. This was all about the OP and what HE wanted, what HE thought was perfect and how HE is now "disrespected" for her not wearing a piece of her stolen and destroyed property. It doesn't matter if the guy literally sold his soul for the ring, you don't take others people's stuff, then get pissed when they aren't jumping with joy when they realized where it came from. You literally betrayed their trust, destroyed an extremely sentimental item in an extremely vulnerable time (gma having been dead only months) and are now dismissing her feelings, the only worse time/thing to make the situation worse would be to take the ring off the gma's corpse, rip the diamond out and plop it into a new ring at the funeral infront of the whole family and propose in front of the casket (assuming it's casket and not cremation) Reminds me of 2 stories- a wife who bought her husband an expensive watch with his own half of the finances and basically put him in debt, and a GF of like under a year stealing her BF credit card to buy and make a surprise breakfast and didn't say anything about where the money came from until she was directly asked. Guess what, they were also not happy that the BF/husband wasn't ecstatic that their stuff (money in this case) was stolen as a 'meaningful gift' to them.

Sister defiantly sees op as a sucker and he is never seeing his (his wife's) money back unless he presses his sister. And to add to that he hid that transaction from his wife for 2 months now. He is 100% gonna be in the dog house for a while at the very least. And presuming this story is real why didn't sister wait until her new card came in? Her dress isn't going anywhere, unless she went dress shopping at the very last minute, I'm pretty sure she could ask the boutique to hold it for her until she could reinstate her card or even set up a payment plan? Last Story: The thing about the ring is that this sentiment varies from family to family and person to person. Some people may think of it as breathing new life into an old piece whereas others prefer to keep the heirloom completely as is. OP taking action on this without knowing how his girlfriend would feel about it is just terrible. This is doubled by the way he was offended she didn't like it and complained about the price. What an AH I hope he either pulls his head out of his behind and does everything he can to salvage this or she realizes that her fiancé is trash and leaves him.
@parkerpenafiel90142 жыл бұрын

Story 1 is missing vital information about the business situation that the whole question pivots on: Was this a well thought out start-up with feasible goals set for each year? Is it already progressing well toward those benchmarks? Is OP sister's employee or partner? What does the prognosis look like for time contributions and income in a year, based on current growth rate and similar companies in that field in their general region? What about in two years? It's a new business. For it to run the principals ragged and leave their pockets slim for a couple of years is normal. Without that kind of data, we don't know if Hubby is trying to shake some very reasonable awareness into his wife or just too impatient/nervous to be a spouse to someone involved in a new small business.

Even if it was just a book, we would clear it first with each other. Nowadays, now that we're doing better than before, we don't really need that rule, but on the way out the store still send a text. "Hey. You'll see 33.50 on the card. Bought a movie and some books. Chicken for dinner?" It's not tough in the communication age to be straight with your partner. I hope the OP's wife takes her SIL to small claims court. At the end of the day, ESH except the wife. No hospital is going to release a patient in the level of pain the husband claims, unless they think he is pill seeking. Generally, you are given some kind of anti-nausea as well, so the throwing up on the way home is likely theatrics. And did he not have a phone to call a friend? I call BS. If OP wanted to propose with an heirloom, it should have been an heirloom from his side of the family!

Imma say NAH for 1st story. Purely because it sounds like these two need more communication and to have an in depth discussion and to really listen to each other (at least the OP does cause it sounds like she half listened before) If the OP was feeling stifled in her previous job, it's possible that could have worsened her mental health if she stayed longer/leaves and gets a similar job and put a strain on the relationship if she was constantly in a bad mood from work. The husband is feeling the strain on the relationship because of the long hours and possible financial struggles not yet evident to the OP. I think they need to sit down and air everything out- come to a compromise where maybe OP works longer during the week but is on an absolute no contact on the weekend so they can have their time together. And looking at passive ways for the OP to make some more money to make up some of the difference in the income. That or bump her down to part time for the sister and full time somewhere else.

Story #4: My dad received some diamond rings from his mother. He gave one ring to my mom and lifted the stone from the second one to place in a man's ring for himself. I asked for the setting, and eventually picked up a light blue tourmaline on a vacation. I had a jeweler set the stone in the old, charmingly dated setting, and that's how three people wore two of grandma's rings. That said, I would NOT have been thrilled to have someone outside come in and make those decisions for any of us. Family heirlooms are for family. Some would love the fiancée's idea, some would hate it. At the very least, the girl will walk into a marriage uncertain she can really trust how well this man knows her and respects her desires... and feels uncertain leaving things important to her within his reach.
