Btw defyn on the lastest updates all missiles sensitivity to flares were upped, the r60s sensitivity went up 2.5 times all aim9D/j/E and p were also upped but by 2x this includes magic1. The aim9G was not affected by this change making it the most effective missile against flares in games, laughs in tea

@@vicsaucey I think they are making it closer to real life. Missiles really are attracted to the flares that much. In DCS, (I know it's not real life but it's closer than WT) even AIM-9X chases flares.

I kinda like the idea of stronger flares, but it also just makes the power difference between planes without flares even larger. It also makes SARH+doppler planes even more relevant, as they can just use their radar missiles as their IR missiles if all fails, which again not all nations have.

Theres no point upping the Aim 9G sensitivity, it aready gets thrown off by flares easily the thing that makes it strong is if you use it in a deflection it leads so far ahead it doesnt see the flares, shoot them right up someones ass then they can flare and roll away easily if they don't have reheat on, hell ive friendly fired so many people just because they started burning when they where slightly in front of my missile (and off to the side by a good bit) and it just spontaneously changes course away from the plane right in front of it. Still strongest missile in game fire it at 4-5km and no one sees it coming.

I think you might have noticed but the ¨manual¨ mode of the MiG 23 wings is actually a ¨semi-automatic¨ mode This means that the wings will retract automatically just enough not to break, with this semi-automatic mode you can have the wings almost fully extended between mach 1.01-0.98, with the wings extended at this high speeds you can pull up to 13Gs in the MiG23M. I've spaded the MLD yesterday and I have to say; I believe it's the best jet in the game as of now. Its climbrate and acceleration are pretty much unmatched, and it can reach over Mach 1.2 on the deck with a full load out. (Although it does overspeed if you keep burner on past that). The maneuverability has also been tremendously enhanced from the MiG-23M. I don't feel as if though I have to two-circle rate fight any aircraft that I get into a 1 on 1 engagement with. On low fuel, the MLD turns as well as a spitfire; I've had instances where I've pulled 16G with it, and then a sustained 14G turn. The R-24R is just an amazing missile all around. With the upgraded radar from the MiG-23M, you can get a radar lock from pretty much any altitude, depending on where your target is flying. The tracking period where the missile flies straight before maneuvering might as well not exist because it's so short. Its range is excellent as well, making it possible to get 15 km frontal-aspect missile kills. With that said, I also believe that the US needs a new top tier jet, as the F-4E is just inherently completely inferior to the MLD and most of the other top Phantom variants. I don't know how what to say about the other nations' top tiers because I haven't played them, but I don't think the F-4E is good enough anymore. (MLD is a 1980's variant keep in mind)

Well, the F4E we have in game is the 1979 variant (that’s why it was so strong before), the difference in age isn’t very big, but the performance is. The F4E has no advantage over the mig23mld. F16 coming imho

Ya I have not grinded to top tier Russian jets yet but the f4e gets stomped right now. I am still enjoying it, I usually take a full bomb load and am able to knock out a few bases and still sneak behind for a few kills. The a7e is just worthless in air rb. That thing has no business being 10.7 in ari, for gorund 10.7 is fair you can get 15km kills if the enemy does not have a plan to intercept you. I'm curious your opinion though, if the f4e got aim9l's would it be able to face the mig 23 mld more effectively or is it just a lost cause at this point? I have no clue if it historically carried them but I'm still curious.

@@Ramentheawsome Aim9Ls would give the F4E the ability to stomp everyone unless they give R60ms to the MLD. This way the MLD would still be better tough. To do things right tough they should remove R60Ms from the mig23M and give it his real thrust (it’s missing 2000kgf) and make R23s like in real life (they were better than Aim7Es and E2s, the Soviets even stopped the k-25 program that was a reverse engineered sparrow because the R23 was better), and leave it to compete with the F4E we have among with the 21bis. Then give the mig23mld R60Ms and add later F4s (like the J) and the F-16A, with Aim9Ls. This way things would be balanced. The MiG23mld is a plane that when used by the Soviets shot down F-16s in afghanistan, no wonder it obliterates F4Es

Played this thing alot yesterday, and I've noticed a stark difference with the 23M in that you actually bleed alot more speed. The M lingers at over 600kph in a sustained turnfight, but the MLD pulls so hard, it actually bleeds speed well down into the 500kph range. Neg-G or whatever to retain the same speed as the M during a turn however? Insanity. Pure and complete insanity. 800-850kph and you turn like a draken

I noticed the harder pull as well. The MLD pulls up to 11G at lower speed, which the 23M just couldn't do. I think it's caused by the MLD having a larger AoA limit. Use the negative G trick though, and it turns like a dream.

You should try toying with the IRST modes, it makes being sneaky a lot easier as you dont spike the rwr and can take some crazy bore sight shots and the in my experience i notice i can lock on r24Ts at longer ranges when i have an IRST lock, and also has an ACM mode the irst sensor. Love this plane

You can rip the wings maneuvering above 885 kilometers per hour. This is ~550 miles per hour. You weren't sure the exact number in the video, thought I'd leave that here. Putting the wings all the way forward isn't recommended above that speed (it also won't let you).

Hey DEFYN, I found out that AIM-7E(first one)has changed G-turn up to 25G, and it seems to really work so. Yep, it doesn't turn first 2-3 seconds, but I guess that makes this missile better for BVR. Caz 7E2 will pull more G before 7E, so notching is more easier

By the time I got my R-24 Missiles.. I have 2 or 3 kills per game in my Mig-23MLD.. This plane is so damn dominant, and now im having 3/1 K/D ratio in my Mig-23MLD already with 70% win rate.. I use the R-24R because it is more efficient than the R-24T because the T can be disrupted by the flares while the R can't be disrupted much by the chaff. US really needs to have either the F-20 Tigershark or the F-14A Tomcat.. And give the MLD R-27 and R-73 Missiles to counter the AIM-9L, AIM-120 and AIM-54. F-14A 1972 F-14B 1982 Mig-23MLD 1983 F-20 Tigershark 1982

One thing I will always stand by in terms of binds is countermeasures to MMB + Mouse Wheel Down, as it both cuts afterburner (which, if you scroll down while holding throttle up, it holds you at 100%, not above, not below) and allows you to dump a ton of flares, if needed.

​@@DEFYN Well, it doesn't busy my hand too much, as I use whichever finger I don't need to scroll the wheel (index or middle). Plus, I don't have to do finger gymnastics on the keyboard when I'm hard pulling a turn. For context, throttle on Shift and Ctrl, main control axes on QWEASD, flaps on R and F. Primary and secondary weapon selection on Caps Lock and Tab respectively. As for the second point, hold throttle up while scroll-flaring and you'll walk a line between afterburning and 100% (which increases the chances of the missile losing lock, at least in my experience). Keep in mind, I do have a keyboard bind for single release as well (B), but I usually just use it for preflaring in lighter turns. The main use for the scrollwheel bind is to better dump flares in the last minute, and to free up the left hand for maneuvering. Also rudder bound to MB4/MB5

Strange question and this is for anyone who wants to answer. What are your opinions on the f8f-1. I recently started playing again and saw the BR drop to 5.7. Is it good or do the guns still hold it back too much. I use mec and can handle the engine trying to spontaneously combust.

the f8f at 5.7 wouldn’t be my first choice for rank 4 USA, the guns are subpar and its performance isn’t quite good enough to make up for the guns. However, the repair cost is super low and it still performs quite nicely so it is far from being useless. Overall it’s quite the acceptable fighter, but don’t expect the bearcat to be the best at its tier.

The F8F turns well but bleeds so much speed, and in practice it's tough to regain energy especially when you're trying to deal with the ridiculous thermodynamics. Because of that, the only thing it has going for it is making someone overshoot then quickly killing them in a snapshot or as they're speeding away with the 1B's good guns. Though the -1's armament is workable, it just doesn't have the reliable snipe or snapshot capability of the -1B, so it's hard to do well in. The F8Fs are unfortunately in a sad state in War Thunder. Terrible 3D model, frustrating flight model, but hey, at least they have unique sounds! It would be nice to get a F8F-2 and an updated 3D model + FM for the -1s.

BTW, removing the compressor mod reduces HP by a small amount but helps noticeably with thermo. It works because of how the game engine handles thermo calculations - basically in the FM there's a table of RPM and manifold pressure and what temperatures they correspond to, and removing the mod makes it interpolate to a lower temperature. it doesn't affect altitude performance or anything fancy, it's just a modifier to HP and displayed manifold pressure.

23M is better because R-60M Gaijin totally removed R-60M from MLD for balance reasons... probably until next update... From what i knew it was supposed to not have R-60M while carrying R-23/24... But was changed to absolute zero R-60 This means sometimes if not all the times MiG'23M is superior to MLD because Gaijin balans

Yeah it locks on to the heat signature Because the missile is so small the flame is visible from the front You can do the same with radar missiles but it's pretty finicky

Stick to your team, kill preoccupied enemies. Always check 6 after taking off because people will try to clean up sabres in up tiers by flying at 10km, diving, and shooting missiles at unaware subsonics Always take the missiles, they are actually useful for trying to catch out of gun range enemies. Sweet spot is 0.8km to 1.2km. Only shoot when they're distracted. Any semblance of awareness from them means the 9B wont hit. Obviously dont shoot when they're turning hard Your biggest strength is your turn rate. Any wallet warrior supersonic that tries to turnfight you usually automatically dies. EDIT: EXCEPT THE PREMIUM DRAKEN. Someone on discord tested their turn rates and the Draken out turns thr F40 at low speeds. Check 6 while turnfighting tho and manage your energy, once you get slow it'll take a long while before you get your speed back again. You maintain 1000kmh really well but your turn radius will be large. You turn really well at 700-900kmh but you'll bleed speed relatively quickly.

When you said you where warming a missile to shoot down his skyflash it was a f4e locking you so it was only an upgraded sparrow, never had an issue with them i know theyre supposed to be a copy pasta skyflash but my fg 1 eats f4es up and none get a missile off before my skyflash nails them, might be the PD but ive had same results when i boom up to 7-8km.

Also if you're chaffing at all that completely fucks the F-4E's radar, while if he deploys chaff your PD radar will ignore it. Plus I think that even setting that aside, the radar on the FG1 is just downright more powerful than the one on the F-4E, getting you contacts and locks more quickly

they arent any worse than they were, they ate the flares before so no real change there but the NATO missiles now go for flares much more than they used to. overall its a nerf to anything with AiM9s while it doesnt change much to anything carrying R-60

It depends on your ,,flying skill". I used to play DCS before War Thunder and didn't had problems flying era VI-VII machines. Real trouble is to unlock all era's, as for me (soviet only war thunder player) fourth and fifth era was the worst experience ever. The seventh era is much more balanced than IV-VI era's so it is pretty easy to fly. REMEMBER EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON YOUR ,,GENERAL FLYING SKILL". KEEP IN MIND I AM NOT A VERY PROFESSIONAL PLAYER...

I kinda hoped for a doppler capable phantom for the US, as a major country it's never good to stay a little behind as they have huge playerbases and affect the matchmaker heavily (looking at the US vs the world matches). Apparently winrates for US toptier tanked also. The F-4E however is by all means not a bad plane compared to minor (air) nations, better than Italy, France or Germany. Definitely usable, especially when you got a doppler capable nation on your team. But since the US also makes up like a huge portion of the air playerbase, a small power level difference is felt more hard. I'm sure the December update will bring bring them up to par with the doppler aircraft. As being able to use radar missiles at low alt seems to be more important than ever with the IR missile nerf.

The biggest improvement is that MLD finally has a dogfight radar mode, to immediately lock up a target directly in front. 23M was the only top tier fighter without a dogfight lock mode. The radar was awful to use at close range.

They have better speed, acceleration and range at the cost of a little bit of maneuverability. They are basically Russian aim-9Js. BTW I'm specifically talking about r-13m1 not the r-13m, the latter is basically a worse aim-9D.

It's mostly the longer range. You can score kills from 2.5-3km away with R-13 unlike R-60. Otherwise I'd stick with R-60s

its pretty much in line against Viggen, a bit stronger against FGR2 or F-4EJ Kai but against US... stomps F-4E in everything and F-5E is nothing but a free food ... US really needed teh F-4S the last patch but at this point against Viggen and MLD ... its about time F-14A and F-16A made an appearance (prefferably alongside the MiG-29A ...) the problem is that will leave other nations in the dust because Brits, Germans and Japanese are kinda at the end of the rope because there is a huge gap between late 3rd gens and 4th gens for them, they went directly from F-4 to F-16

@@Asghaad Even Viggen in it's current config has nothing over this aircraft aside from first couple turns at high speeds. Once the fight gets slower it rates the crap out of Viggen and BVR wise it's exactly same as Viggen if not better thanks to stealth R-24T attacks. Only real trouble is F-5E once he gets the jump on you while you're doing the turn and burn kind of stuff.
