I just got into board gaming this year and discovered the Quodd Heroes 2nd Edition kickstarter just before it was cancelled. It looked so amazing that I purchased the first edition. I'm so glad I did. My son and I played it non-stop for about a week, running through the scenarios in the book. That Friday, my son created his own Epic map that took up the entire dining room table. I think he tried to use every modular board and as many special tokens as he could find (springs, crystals, tunnels, etc). It was a crazy game and realllly long, but it was a memory that I will always have. The game can take some time to setup/breakdown, but definately worth the effort. I'm working on printing some 3D organizers to help with that until I get the 2nd edition with its insert.

*Hi Alex! Thanks for the video! Its much appreciate.* Just a note that everything in 2nd Edition make it faster and easier to get it to the table. Fold out scenario maps, plastic organizer in the box, and a tighter component list among dozens of other tweaks and improvements over 1sdt edition mean it will definitely be an easy pick to get to the table without a lot of setup.

Is there any reason to get 1st Edition then? Or does 2nd Edition completely replace 1st Edition? Thanks.
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
@@JJ_TheGreat There are a few reasons to still own 1st Edition. The biggest is having access to all of those modular components (board and tokens) for playing through those scenarios and for generating your own scenarios. The second reason is if you really olove painting minis, the Quodd HEroes minis are really fun to paint!

I had no idea about this game! The miniatures on this look like a blast to paint. Plus, We are a co-op family, so this looks like a winner.

Keep in mind that the campaign book seems to be for 1-2 players only
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
The core game is 2-6 players and includes co-op scenarios. The solo campaign for 2nd Edition is largely TRULY a solo experience by its nature. However, it has 4 additional Co-op specific scenarios for up to 6 players.

Hi Alex! Id did jump on this second edition kickstarter. I wasn't sure the first time. I since then watched a couple of reviews and the new videos. Being a fan of RoboRally and Mechs vs Minions, I love these types of racing game. I understand this one is not a programing game, but the character evolution, the chaos with playing with multiple players, the options, the upgrade, the crystal... The tumbling aspect of the game. And adding the painted miniature, I'm sold. I was happy to discover this morning that you like this game as much. We do have many games that we like in common and we both seem to want to play game because we have fun. And I'm sure I'll have fun with this one. Thanks again for sharing. It will be great to see down the line if the game really improve as much as you wish, but anyway, I'm sure i will enjoy it. It's nice to add some chaos in your gaming session! Have a great day!!

I have not played the game, but I would think a modular board that changed the course each game would make this have unlimited replayability.
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
First edition had modular game boards and you're right about infinite replayability. Even without modular boards each scenario will always play out different, each game. And with 10 scenarios in the core game there's a lot of variety in there!
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
@@Dstinct This is exactly why we moved to fold out scenario maps. It makes setup much faster. The game will ship with a modular organizer in second edition which also improves setup time. A big design objective with 2nd Edition was to reduce the intimidation factor but reducing the total number of components to a level that doesn't scare people and makes organizing and finding what you need for a scenario, quick and easy,. Secondly we wanted to make people want to play as second game in the same sitting, and to play through all of the different scenarios. I hope we've achieved that. Time will tell. :)

Really interested in this. The only thing holding me back is that the co-op is only up to 2 players.

Solo Campaign is for 1 player. The co-op scenarios are for up to 6 players.
@john98012 жыл бұрын
@@WondermentGames but number of up to 6 player co-op scenarios is quite low an not a campaign. Unfortunately I can not back that many games each year. I'm sad that word heroes is not on the list that I have funds for. But good luck with the campaign.
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
@@john9801 @John I understand. But just so you understand, the nature of such scenarios is that they are truly infinitely repayable. Even the campaign scenarios are replayable in the same way. Each is a puzzle with essentially a different solution each time you play. Each scenario is like a different game experience entirely. :) Thanks for the well wishes. I'll stop trying to "convince" you. The trick is that playing this game is really different from what it seems like from the outside. Having demoed it hundreds of times at conventions everyone inevitably says "oh... thats not what I thought it was going to be like at all!" Cheers!

How much of a problem is AP in this game? I get a little irritated at a lot of AP, which is totally unreasonable given that I sometimes have AP myself. :)
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
It depends on your approach to playing. I would disagree with Alex's statement about this being a game where you have to play several turns ahead. For me, as the game's designer I see this more like a fighting video game like Super Smash Brothers. Because the game board and other factors are constantly changing it rewards a flexible approach where you keep the overall goal in mind (for example: get to the end of the race first) but just optimize your current turn as best you can, on the fly. Mindset can make a huge difference. The game is NOT in the cube itself, but in how you combine your movement with the boards, and cards in your hands. Its a fun experience, and one I suggest that you approach in your first few games as "let's just wing it and see what happens" and then the beauty, and fun and insane combos will start to click in your head. :)

@@WondermentGames Thanks! I'm on the fence on this. I would love to try it out, but fact is, I'm not the issue: the real holdup is that I'm not sure it would work with my kids, who are my primary playing partners.
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
@@sethwinslow I get that, I've got kids too. :) All I can say is that in general kids are an easy audience for this game. If you read through the comments here to Danny Osborne's comment you'll the reaction of his son to Quodd Heroes 1st Edition. In my experience kids love Quodd Heroes for a few main reasons the components are lots of fun, and they love to mess with their parents, and Quodd Heroes provides plenty of opportunity for the latter :)
@sethwinslow2 жыл бұрын
@@WondermentGames My kids are older - my oldest is 24, and my youngest is 13. The issues are different. For example, the oldest is so hyper-competitive that SHE won’t play games with take-that. She prefers co-ops because she doesn’t like how she handles take-that games. My youngest is the opposite. We played Root once, and she was the Maquis/Cats. She refused to attack anyone because she wanted to play nice, and that upset the balance between the factions and ruined the game.

I certainly looks cool... However I feel that it would scratch a similar itch as Mechs VS Minions. Seeing as how I already own MvM.. I don't think this will have a place in my collection. I wish them nothing but success on their 2nd attempt for their KS campaign.
@WondermentGames2 жыл бұрын
Its really not like MvM at all to be honest, not in a real or practical way. It shares a similar approach to scenarios but this is NOT a programming game. A programming game is one where you select your actions then run through them in order like executing computer code. This is NOT like that at all despite what some reviews have said. On your turn you choose one or more movement skills to activate by tumbling. With cards, and board elements you always have choice as to what you are doing and how you move, unlike in a programming game where you have a phase where you set out your actions, then things just HAPPEN (sometimes in ways that you have no control over, or didn't intend). MvM and Robo rally share grid movement with Quodd Heroes, but outside of that are only vaguely related. This is like playing a video game. You are pushing the buttons, and making the choices for your hero on your turn. Very different experience and not at all the same itch as MvM. MvM is a co-op campaign game. The core experience of Quodd Heroes is Player vs. Player, and the Solo/Co-op scenarios feel and play very differently from other games. Far more puzzle-like than comparable. Hope that helps!

@@WondermentGames Fair.. and I know you have a game to sell as well. I suppose it's more that it scratches the same itch aesthetically to me. I know this isn't a programming game. However just looking at videos.. Right or wrong.. I just happen to get Mech V Minions vibes.
