It's disappointing that in 2000 years, most people have become far less wise and more foolish, rather than building upon the foundation of the wisdom of the great thinkers and philosophers. When we look at the state of the general human mentality today, it's like all the valuable work of our forefathers was for naught.

And usually it’s only when our lives have evaporated beneath us that we seek out their wisdom. Should’ve used my two ears more wisely instead of my one tongue to defend what I thought I knew… of course no one knows more than when they’re 18

@@veronica0071000 yes i agree that ppl generally dont have the foresight/humility/overestimate themselves, until it's too late. But.. Watched a lot of these, and found this one. It's like every passage is spot on with what I have struggled with, instead of half of them being things I haven't as much. It is strange how different every person is, and then how similar they can be too. But Epictetus was certainly speaking to a particular type, definitely.

It's always like this. Shortsighted people blame everything on others and send them destructive criticism. At the same time, they do not understand and do not want to realize that talented people will sooner or later leave them. I dream about my ancestors from the past distant generations and in one of the last dreams they told me that in the past lives, if to believe in reincarnation according to Buddhism, I was an outstanding scientist and alchemist with the world name. That's enough to ignore the unfair criticism of me. Fools are lazy, they do not read books, do not study philosophy and do not improve their knowledge. That is why they are envious of talents and versatility, multifacetedness of brilliant people.
