I have a Danzig story for you, although it's second-hand and kind of old. I used to be a teacher. Right after I finished my practicum and was licensed, I substitute taught until I found an appointed position. During this time, I would occasionally observe student teachers if their cooperating teacher was absent. On such an occasion, I found myself with a pleasant young lady who was a metalhead. She mentioned that she and her fiance had met Glen Danzig. One of the students remarked 'Really?' He went on to tell this tale: His buddy (who was with him) had an older sister who had gone to high school with Danzig and still had the yearbook. In this yearbook, he appeared quite obese and did not have the trademark appearance we have seen of him. They took this yearbook to a Danzig show, for which they had front-row tickets. When he was in front of them, they opened the book to his picture and put it up in front of him. He went APE-SHIT. He dove off the stage at them in a rage and it took the whole security gang to pull him off of them. They were minors but he wasn't charged. That's because they got out of there and didn't bother sticking around. This happened around 1993 as I recall, because I heard the kid tell this story in early 1995. One more thing: as you do vids on weird stuff, I recommend you research and do a video on Centralia, Pennsylvania, USA. That is a town that literally went straight down to hell. On fucking fire. Check it out.

Ok, so I'm going to tell the story of when I met Danzig. After seeing him in Knoxville at the Bijou theater I made my way to his bus. Quite often Danzig is very cool to his fans and makes time for anyone that wants to meet him. He sat in the driver's seat of the bus and we were allowed to walk up the bus stairs to greet him one at a time. It was an ingenious way to meet his fans without being mobbed. Well, I walked up the stairs with my friends behind me. The guy in front of me asked Danzig to sign his poster. The poster was a bootleg and not an official poster which infuriated Mr Danzig. The poster was seized and the individual was denied his autograph. I on the other hand brought nothing to sign but I did have a dollar bill in my pocket so that's what I gave him to autograph. He obliged with no reservation. As I humbly Departed I watched my buddy walk up and greet Mr Danzig. He had nothing for Danzig to sign so he asked if he could have one of Danzigs fingerless gloves that he wears on stage and hadn't had the time to take off yet. To our surprise Danzig said he would make a deal with my friend. The deal was his glove for my friends life. That's a true story!!!

I lived right around the corner from his place for years. Would sometimes see him in the yard. I wondered what was up with those bricks. Figured he was planning to build a wall and just never got around to it. One night i saw the light from the television flickering in an upstairs window. I tossed a coin. Glenn rushed to the window and stuck his head out. Looking around. We laughed pretty hard as we ran off.

I grew up in the suburbs of Houston Texas and then a early '80s and '90s going to see bands like the Misfits and the Bad brains. It's kind of cool to see that these bands have gained nearly mythic status and to me they were just a couple of bands that I liked amongst a whole lot of other really good Punk and hardcore musicians. One thing about Danzig that kind of ties him to guys like Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys and Ian MacKaye of Minor threat is that all three of them were crowd lecturers. I have to say that Ian and Jello were far worse and quite often politically driven but Glenn Danzig could be a complete asshole too if somebody threw a can that was 5 ft away from him or somebody bumped him when they were jumping off the stage. Obviously that footage of him getting knocked out cold made a lot of people happy but you still have to recognize how good the Misfits were and how his crooning vocals stood out amongst a lot of yelling by other hardcore bands I also saw Danzig a couple of times and Samhain a couple of times as well. There was a long period where he had pretty much destroyed his voice and those shows were pretty bad. I saw the Misfits once without him and it was much much better than it had been with him at the end of his time with them. Whoops. I just noticed that I was rambling so I'm done.

Not surprised his house is unkept. As a musician who tours he spends most of the year travelling the world & living in hotels than he does living in his house. To him it's just a place to stash his stuff. Also he's not married or have kids so there's nobody left behind who's able to clean up & get things repaired while he's away. He then returns home & the amount of maintenance to be done probably overwhelms him.....He's 66 years old.

I upset Danzig once. He was buying a jaguar at a now defunct car dealership in Hollywood behind SIR rehearsal studios. SIR was a place bigger bands went to rehearse in preparation for a tour. He was looking at two black jaguars with their trunks open. Hand on chin- You can tell he was having a hard time trying to decide on which model to buy. I made eye contact with Danzig and yelled “Hey Danzig!! Pick the one that fits the most werewolves in it!!” He lost it and yelled “fuck you man!!”and proceeds to look around and see if he can get to me. The dealership was in a weird spot and he would’ve had to run around a long fence to get to me. I jumped in my car and left. 😂

For what it is worth, Danzig sold original pages of comic book art ( lots of x-men ,wolverine if I remember correctly ) at the San Diego Comic Con. I remember seeing his booth at the , at the time, new convention center. He just put up 3 card tables on 3 sides of a booth space and had piles of original art that people would just shuffle through as much as they would. A booth like that today would probably have white gloved lawyers.

Kamil Dąbrowski Gdańsk is the polish city and its current name, as such when talking about the current city you would say Gdańsk, whereas if you were to bring up the historical city before the world wars or during the world wars you would state Danzig Similar to why you would refer to Volgograd as Stalingrad during world war 2

I was a fire bobby.... During my last 10 years in the job we spent a LOT of time installing smoke alarms in domestic properties. You would not BELIEVE the squalor that a small but sizeable proportion of people live in. For instance you could pull up in a decent neighbourhood, knock at the door of a reasonably expensive house with a Porche Cayenne parked outside (probably on PCH), go through the front door..... dog shit on the carpets and some walls, kitchens with decaying food smeared about, mounds of mouldy plates and cutlery, partially burned furniture in the living room, burst binbags of decaying domestic rubbish in BEDROOMS? And what used to amaze me was the residents were not in the LEAST bit embarrassed or phased by people seeing how they lived. We used to say "wipe your feet on the way out".
