I've always carried a swiss army knife (usually a cadet). Years ago, I was on a date with a lady and I accidentally dropped it out of my pocket whilst looking for keys. Her eyes went wide, and she told me after the date (by text) that she didn't want to see me again and that I should "seek help". This, to me, perfectly illustrates the attitude of the typical Irish person. The people here are utterly indoctrinated to think that anything with a sharp edge is a "weapon".

Shawn Gunnison of course, but once you start popping rounds in the gun free zone and the police show up, the shooter is easily identifiable because they’d be the only one with the gun. They could conceal once the police get there, but there’d be witnesses who know who’s who, and if there are none, there’s the only guy alive. However if everyone had a gun, it’s much harder to tell. Now whenever anyone pulls a gun they could get shot by the open carriers, but some could miss and others could be idiots, and now it’s just a full on gunfight. There’s pros and cons to both sides

It is VERY important to remember that laws are made by people who specialize in law and, well, not much else. Another prime example would be how speed limits are set by the local government and not the engineers who designed the roads. By the sound of things some Dáil Éireann member just went through a martial arts/knife catalog and picked out all the items that might look scary to their voting base. It is basically the same thing American politicians do with guns. They focus on the scary looking guns (sword umbrella) while basically ignoring the fact that, statistically speaking, handguns (slash hook) are far more often used in violent crimes. Remember, a politicians top priority is to keep their job after all. Imagine if you had a significant chance of be fired at each of your quarterly/yearly reviews. All that being said if you can show me a less broken system than democracy I might be willing to subscribe to it... or at least their news letter.

Speaking of conspiratorial videos from the 90s, during the big scare campaign after Columbine, a series of videos were made calling for school uniforms because a shooter could hide fewer weapons on them. To emphasize this point, a kid wearing the baggy clothes of the day was shown pulling something like four semiautomatic pistols, a magnum revolver, an uzi, and a full size 12 gauge pump shotgun out of his pants. It later came out that it was heavily edited and the actor never had all those weapons on him at once. Not that he could have anyway, since that would be nearly 20 pounds of gun stuffed in his pants, and he wouldn’t even be able to walk with that shotgun holding his leg ridged. Shuriken aren't even designed to kill. They are designed to cause pain and to irritate/annoy the target to you can run away or close the distance and to cause injury when people try to remove them and stab themselves through their hands. A Kusarigama was a weapon used by ninja and/or peasants to defend themselves. The chain is used to catch long blades or to strangle people.
@DumbArse6 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, until VERY recently the hungarian anti terrorist organization had shurikens as service weapons, they always carried around 3 of them and they had to train with them like every other firearm. You can still carry and train with them if you want to but it's no longer required

Slash hooks are (were) used for clearing small, rank vegetation, including tall grass, similar to a kaiser blade, sling blade, and with the same general purpose as a sickle, or scythe. And at least crime rates are extremely low. Like a school shooting has never occurred in this history of Ireland. I get that we sound brainwashed, but honestly, our government isn’t corrupt and I don’t see them trying to turn us into North Korea anytime soon. I have never needed a gun to protect myself as it’s quite safe where I live. Certainly much much safer than America as my American friend tells me. I am pretty sure this is due to the weapon laws. If it saves lives, I’m don’t see what’s wrong with it. It works in Ireland so it’s grand.

@@NegativeAccelerate no but you do have stabbing and car bombs. Not to mention your country is about the size of a postage stamp, and you don't have thousands of different cultures, some that hate everyone that isn't their own, being forced to live in abject poverty in massive cities being run by corrupt mayors like new York city or Chicago. The reason school shootings don't exist there is partly because you don't have a second amendment your government is trying to repeal. The vast majority of crime occurs in an objectively small amount of massive cities. Those cities are being run by democrats. They have high amounts of poverty stricken areas that are under police and totally ignored by their mayors, so they turn to crime. Gang violence, suicide, and police shootings are included in the gun deaths statistics. It's a symptom of a disease. There's a million reasons people end up sick in the head here, but rather than helping them, they wait for them to do something drastic (like building bombs, shooting people, or driving a van into a crowd at a college then hacking people with machetes when the van gets stuck on bodies. Yes that happened. It was an act of jihad.) and then capitalize on the tragedy by trying to gain political leverage with it. Its disgusting. I hate politics because of this behavior.
@NegativeAccelerate3 жыл бұрын
@@rickhowe5082 I’m grand with guns in the USA as it’s not my country and I don’t understand the culture. I’ve never disagreed with it. But it definitely works in Ireland and I want it to remain this way. So many people would have died during the troubles if guns were legalised. Terrorists needed geniuses to build bombs which were also expensive. It definitely consumed resources reducing the amount of people they could kill. Imagine if they could just buy guns from the local shop. Thousands more would have died. yes petty crime exists and they stab instead of shoot. But it’s wayyyy less effective. Can you imagine dealing with someone that has a kitchen knife vs someone that has a gun. You can’t run away from the gun. Police with guns have the advantage as they can kill from distance. So ultimately it kills less when you use knives for petty crime. Id rather see a crazy person with a knife than a crazy person with a gun. It also means less accidental deaths from mishandling the gun. It just works in Ireland.
@rickhowe50823 жыл бұрын
@@NegativeAccelerate maybe Ireland, being an island, doesn't have a black market of illegal firearms. Everywhere else in the world, people can buy stuff that's even illegal in the United States, like full auto uzi and leftover also fully automatic soviet AK47s. The CIA was even trying to figure out how they get in some years ago by dropping some in Mexico to see how the cartel got them into America for the gangs to use. The vast majority of our crime doesn't come from legal, licensed gun owners. It comes from felons who already have been banned from ever buying a firearm at the gun shops, or even going to a range to shoot one they don't own. It's another felony just to touch a gun for them. Problem is, we have open borders and the criminals know how to sneak in. They bring illegal weapons/drugs in for the black market and they traffic kidnapped people back out. It is well documented, yet we can't just finish the wall that forces them to use the checkpoints where they will DOCUMENT people and the crime won't be able to pass through. I love immigration, I'm a product of it. Ancestors are from Scotland. I just don't like illegal immigration and border hopping for illicit reasons. Controlling the flow would do a lot to help human trafficking and gang violence.

I think the wording in the law was off here. Sand gloves are usually literally sand filled gloves, giving more weight to your punches. Additionally biker gloves (at least the ones I had) tend to incorporate lighter materials than straight up metal.

The reason for knifes with a "loose" blade being banned is simply that you can have most of them in your hand in a way that your opponent is not able to see them and you could open them in the stabbing motion. Knifes that have a fixed blade or need to be opened with two hands are either directly visible or can not be opened that fast that your opponent has no time to react. Its the same in germany.
