If Ben cheated on OP, he’ll cheat on the sister. It’s in the nature of a cheater. Karma WILL catch up with her and leave her a single mom with a child.

It's sad that the parent of the biological child in a blended family is the one who shuns the child they had from a previous relationship once they get a new one. I feel the Dad is just a garbage human. The step mom at least doesn't seem to be influencing the Dad as I can gather and he is behaving this way if his own accord.

Story 1: NTA And how can people treat their children this way. It's one thing for the sister, but the parents and extended family? Her having cancer is not an excuse to act like an asshole. Edit after update: so she's pregnant and that's why they're forcing OP to accept the relationship. I'm glad OP is going to cut them off. It sucks that her dad is less understanding than her stepmom, but OP has been failed all around.

The only positive here is that even the brother, who is being blatantly and unsubtly favoured recognises what is happening and is deeply uncomfortable about it. Like, when your own favoured child is telling you to quit it, maybe you should listen. Frankly, I don't think the parents are really as good parents in everyday life as OP thinks. Story one has been stuck in the back of my mind since the first video and came back to find this to see if there was anymore updates. Sadly, there was. First one was in /relationships where she talks about meeting up with a college friend that was mutuals with her ex and they started dating. Her new boyfriend and her had a date at a party but when she got a call from her new boyfriend saying her ex was there and asked if she wanted to go, she decided that she didn't want to. She then got break up text and got her number blocked and suspected that her ex sabotaged her new relationship. Then in the last update that was in /infidelity, she found out that her second guy ended up cheating on her at the party and is dealing with some self worth issues. Man, out off all the posters I seen this is the only one I feel a weird connection to and I really hope that she finds her way.

*Story 4:* NTA. You have terrible parents that don't like you. Period. That's the sad reality. I grew up similarly. My brother every Christmas would get $100+ electrical tools (he's an electrician and has always loved taking things apart), expensive archery sets, shooting range lessons, anywhere from 3-12 video games depending on how much he wanted that year. If he didn't ask for a lot, they'd give him Steam gift cards totaling anywhere from $50 to $200, etc etc. You get the point. I wouldn't be surprised if the amount spent on his gifts went in the $500-$1000 range some years. Me? It was consistent every year: a stocking full of toiletries, which would not only be my only supply they'd provide me for the full year, but they regularly took some of them from me for themselves (sometimes even on the very day they gifted it to me), clothes (often a size too small because "no daughter of mine is allowed to be overweight"), and one ticket item. Usually some expensive art supplies like a drawing tablet or Copic markers. Which, until my next Christmas/birthday, would be dangled over my head as emotional blackmail. They'd make me feel guilty for not doing things by complaining about how much they spent on the gift as well as threaten to take it back or even give it away to somebody else if I didn't do as they told. Holidays got so much easier when I went full no-contact.

If Brother is willing to do it, I'd weaponize their favoritism. Have him ask for a gift that sister really wants, while she asks for a gift brother really wants. Preferably something that is nice enough the parents don't suspect the switcharoo of requests. When they give Brother the really nice gift, he immediately gives it to sister and vice versa. I doubt it'd make them realize or change anything, considering the 'haggle' nonsense, but it'd at least be worth it for the looks on their faces, and prove brother is a far better person than them.

I'm so proud and happy for OP cutting her family off especially her sister. It's SO hard to cut toxic family off, but there is such a feeling of freedom and peace once you do it. Yes it hurts ending a relationship that you only thought you had because the other person was never actually in it because of narcissism or whatever and you were filling in all of the gaps with your good nature. Cutting off my toxic family member felt like liberation. Telling my other family members they were going to have to accept it or get bent was almost as freeing. I simply shut them down if they tried to talk about. "We can hang out but if you talk about it anymore I'll leave, I love you but this has nothing to do with you"

Story 2: NTA. Based on the information provided by OP, his wife is never going to be accepted in her parents eyes. If she wasn't sick, and she produced a big fancy meal for her family, they would complain about a stain on a shirt, or dust on top of a cabinet. It's a set of ever moving goal posts. The best thing is to simply not play along. That means since she's sick, OP should call her parents up and reschedule the meal to a day where you are not working so that OP and the wife can work together to host. If they are rude to OP's wife, call them on it. "Wow, that's really rude." If they escalate throw them out, or simply cancel the meal completely.

Also IMO, even though the cause of OP's wife's illness is likely related to her pregnancy, she should still take a lesson from 2020: if you are unwell, do not get together with company.

Thought op for story 3 was a bit weird to feel the need to say that he became disabled through no fault if his own. It implies they think most disabled people are that way because they've done something wrong. Edited for grammar.

Don't know. Maybe she was just clarifying it because someone might ask in the comments so she said it first. Not only that, the boy was walking up until he was 16 so her sister knew all about his past and still treated him like an ableist would. She clearly doesn't care about him and now the facade has been lifted off of her.

The national park story. NTA and screw both the sister and their mother for their actions. The gift story. OP & brother are NTA. In addition to refusing the insults pretending to gifts, OP should one of two things. Never, ever, buy their parents another gift, or give them something with zero value. Like a used tissue.

1st story: I wouldn’t be surprised if the family reaches out later for “reconciliation.” I can see a scenario if the sister needs financial help/childcare. Or if OP gets married and has a baby. I can see it now, everything would be about the sister. “Your sister had cancer, so you need to make up and have her be a bridesmaid/let her have your day,” or “Your sister had cancer so you need to name your daughter after her…”

1: NTA. OP's family and ex are all toxic, and OP should go gray rock with all of them for this massive betrayal. 2: ESH. OP needs to pull his weight in the kitchen. Wife shouldn't be hosting anyone if she's ill. 3: YTA just for using the phrase "wheelchair bound". My wheelchair doesn't "bind" me, it FREES ME to live my life nearly independently. 4: NTA. OP's parents did what, now? WTF? This is seriously forked up. Any sane person would object to this!

Story 1: NTA Obviously, though I call bullshit on the mother using her excuse. I believe that no excuses are an exception to your choice, no matter how horrible it was. The events may encourage one choice, but you are still the one choosing. You have other choices than the ones being encouraged. So I think she is just bullshitting her way through things. And the father is even worse for not even trying to defend himself, or even better apologize. His silence still speaks about how he knows what he did was wrong.

Story 4. The title sounded like it was unfair. Haggling makes some sense. But I was expecting it to be haggling with a dealer or something. This is mad. I've never heard anything like this. The accidental gift differences make sense, but not after the gifts are bought on their behalf because their gifting is so awful. I'd be incredibly embarrassed if I were them. If not for the haggling event, I would say some people are harder to buy gifts for. A gamer would want a gaming laptop. But someone who doesn't game might have much cheaper interests. Though I'd be trying to at least add a gift card for a book store to try to show that you know the interests of the person but don't know their exact desires. But the haggling incident just screams of favouritism. However, it could be that they really don't have money at that time of year. That wouldn't excuse. Christmas, of course.
@DeathNoteMaker

If they didn't have the money at that time of year, then her brother would also get the same kind of gifts. It's favoritism, that's it. They can't have money when it comes to the brother and then suddenly don't have any for her. They just don't like her.

Story 1: "We're so disappointed in you OP. We know you literally gave up you're entire life and everything you loved in order to support your sister but how _dare_ you not give her the rest of your life as well and support her in stealing your boyfriend. As compensation, we want you to quit your job and recommend your sister so she can have a better life. It's what she deserves after you betrayed her and broke her poor little fragile heart in such a cold, cruel, selfish and heartless manner. In fact, give her your actual heart, she needs a transplant. " Edit: "She has a hard time meeting people" Well she clearly did NOT have a hard time meeting Op's boyfriend 🤨🙄 Edit 2: Random thought but I think it says a lot about how much OP was gaslit when she mentioned the part where she "had a tantrum but was swiftly punished" after being told to give up playing volleyball. That's not a tantrum, that's someone being upset because their life is being ripped away from them over something they didn't cause, and for the parents to have the absolute _audacity_ to punish Op for not willingly throwing away her entire life makes me sick.

There seems to be a theme today. Parents getting mad at women for standing up too as opposed to participating in indiscrimination. And the women coming on to ask if they're being an asshole by not participate it's not participating in discrimination and harassment. In the story about the woman and her son it strikes me that the bride and the mother are conspiring together to force the OP to be an accomplice to abella's discrimination. It strikes me what they're really mad about is that the OP stood by her son as opposed to letting them manipulateor into discriminatory harassment against her son. In the last story, assuming the OP as a woman, it strikes me as straight masaginy. The last story really reads as the O p's parents harassing her for being a woman and not a man.

He will literally haggle when it comes to paying medical bills we previously agreed my parents would help me with, given I have plenty of physical and mental disabilities (some that are exclusively their fault due to childhood trauma). Then when I say I'll just not buy that medication or do that certain procedure, because I can't afford it, he says I'm manipulative. Meanwhile he'll pay for expensive designer bags for his wife and a bunch of extracurriculars for my half sister. It is what it is 🤷‍♀️

Just got home after a whirlwind time. Was rushed in for emergency spinal surgery, 2 inches of disc was taken out of my back. A condition called Caudia Equina Syndrome. I'm fortunately not paralysed, which I am so lucky and thankful for. However, I do have potentially permanent nerve damage in places, permanent numbness ect. GOOD NEWS is, that the pain from the surgery incision isn't even close to the pain I have been in these past few years. I just wanted to share. Story 4: My sister was actually accused of the opposite by her daughter. The eldest sibling, A the accuser, said that her mom preferred her younger sister and brother over her. A mentioned how her sister got a huge party for her 16th birthday and her brother got a custom built gaming computer (he chose all inner components to have RGB lighting). A on the other hand got nothing. While she is sort of right about that, my sister went to a closet and pulled out a binder. Inside was a scrapbook of planning and receipts. Then a cancellation and new receipts for A's treatment for drug use. My sister said she had to cancel the party she was gonna surprise her with and use the money on getting A's treatment going for drug abuse. Also, she's not stupid and had noticed when A stole money from her purse among other things. The whole reason they moved all of A's brother's stuff into a personal gaming room made for him and his cousins (oh they live at my mom's house btw since their dad died) was because games were going missing and she knew that A had been taking stuff but had no solid proof to accuse her. It's not that she was treating them better but all of A's bad behavior has been eating away at expenses to replace items and undergo treatment. She at least tries to do something small for A on A's birthday but can't do anything big otherwise the other two will learn they can mess up and still get things.
