@@carolroberts4614 I know I'm late to the party 🎉 but I think OP should start taking things from all 3 of them! First take anything of his of value or valuable to him, to his moms. Story 2: As an artist, NTA. Girl, make sure you get EVERY SINGLE PENNY he owes you. DO NOT let him get away with this. I don't know if I'll sell what I modify or just modify for myself, but either way I'll need the things to modify with, I have a couple of storage drawer cases with the gears, spikes, skeleton key, charms, etc. I use, and if I have an idea I need something I don;t already have, I never once think about looking through anyones stuff for it, if I don't find it at a local store I order it from ebay or something. Besides SIL just being plain horrible... I'm only occassionally out with people in wheelchairs, but what "burden?" People are getting out of your way everywhere and letting you skip the line, etc. 😁 When you make a restaurant reservation with a wheelchair you're often in a more roomy area while other tables and chairs are packed in like sardines. 😂 I so hope the husband didn't take this to heart. I've had several friends with various disabilies and never felt ANY burden at all. That SIL just likes making trouble but I'm still shocked at how awful she is. First story: I REALLY think even with the update, there’s a LOT that should have been discussed before they made this commitment of getting a house together. Why is Dads custody/visitation so low it’s only in summers and ‘now and then’? Is it a terrible ex situation or Dad works odd hours thing? Is he planning on getting more custody? When you have your own bio kid together, is he gonna want more custody and expect you to do a lot of the childcare for him as you’re already looking after mutual kid or keep custody the same? Is this a ‘first’ house rather than a long term house? What will be your role in future stepkids life (if she didn’t understand his kid is going to have a permanent room in their mutual house then I do wonder what convos she had at all). I’m glad she learned from her judgement. But if she’s so clueless to think the kid wouldn’t have a permanent room in her fathers house, I do wonder how well they discussed the kid situation on the first place

@@AnymousScreams Yeah, it could be me reading into it. But less than alternate weekend custody for an active, loving father who lives under half an hour away is a bit odd and this doesn’t sound like a toxic ex situation. And a woman at a stage where she’s buying a house with a single Dad seems to be acting more like a woman dating a childless man with a favoured niece who visits time to time than a major responsibility of her future boyfriends who could potentially become a more major part of their household. I dunno. It’s reasonable for the Dad to think his kid having her own room in her fathers house is a given. But them not discussing what happens when they have a baby and there’s no viable room to be used as a nursery? No Long term plans about how the kids are going to be raised together ? This is more troubling since it’s a known thing for single parents to suddenly up their parental demands on their childless partner once they move in or get married. I really don’t think OPs properly thought about what dating a man whom already has kids could entail since she apparently thought the daughter would stay on a sofa bed or stop staying overnight once the guest rooms a nursery

It's possible that op’s partner didn't have the space or time for 50/50 custody and that's why he laughed at op when she showed him the post and said “hell no it's kate’s room” and had his daughter do the proposal to op showing that she a part of him even if she's not there all the time. Legally this is also theft and destruction of property; whiney jerk is lucky OP hasn't filed charges with the cops. Don't think the bank would take such charges lightly. SOOOOOO NTA!

Why would you give away Kate’s room to a future child? Siblings share rooms all the time. I shared with my brother for the first five years, and then with my sisters when they came along until I was a teen. And what guest will stay longer than his daughter, if she’s a regular visitor 10% of the time? None of those comments make sense or hold up.

YTA 3rd story. My own dad refuses to let me get a lock so he can storm into my room because "it's my house so I'm allowed to go into any room whenever I want" regardless of what situation I'm in. OP, you are acting like my father. Your kid is gonna run when he can and you'll regret it eventually.

First story: old fashioned, I know, but marry before you buy a house and have babies. If you think a marriage certificate is just a piece of paper than break up or die without one. All HELL will break lose when dividing up assets. Sweet story ending--indeed, so sweet I needed an extra dose of insulin. However, it never dealt with a question she raised: where to place sibs she plans to have. If at all affordable they needed to have purchased a home with a den/office in order to allow for a work-from-home office doubling as a guest bedroom. But, realistically, working with what they have, if they have one child together, who happens to be a girl, than Kate may or may not have to share--but if she doesn't they lose their office. One boy means they lose the office altogether because it is not realistic to expect Kate to share a bedroom with a boy. It also isn't realistic to expect Kate, a school-aged child, to share with a newborn, then toddler. But suddenly expecting Kate to share is a recipe for disaster--they need to prepare her for that. What if they have two or more children? If one is a is a girl same scenario. One or two boys go in the office but then what becomes of their needing a guest bedroom/office. Guests can stay at Motel 6 but if an office is truly needed, what then? "I should have been concerned with welcomed into Kate's home." Vomit. Unless Kate is paying the mortgage it is OP's house or if they bought it together, OP and her fiancé's house. That attitude is how you have an entitled child. It IS Kate's house in that she lives there as family; however, that doesn't make it HER house with OP subservient and requiring some sort of invitation to be welcomed in the child's home.

Agreed that there's a certain order things should be done in. Generally, I don't think people should have sex with people they aren't married to because you should only have sex with someone you completely and totally trust beyond a shadow of a doubt and if you trust the person that much, you should be married. Then again, I also have opinions on the place of marriage within our legal system, since marriage implies a couple having sex and that isn't the only way to form a household. As for the situation with theoretical future kids, get a bigger house. My parents and I were in a tiny bungalow when they had my first sister. Mom was pregnant with my youngest sister when we moved to the house most of the family is still in. Same number of bedrooms, but the other rooms were larger and there was a walk-in attic that Dad converted into a study so he wasn't taking up a bedroom. One of the bedrooms was a playroom until my little brother needed the space, then the play room was moved to a corner of the attic where we'd already had some toys. We were also spaced out enough in age that I was in college just a few years after that, leaving both my sisters with their own rooms. You have a point with the "Kate's home" bit, but I think the point is that Kate was part of her boyfriend's life first and so takes precedence.

Yeah, I agree and I think it’s odd that OP clearly had no clue where bfs kid fits in with their future family if she thought she’d either sleep on the couch/travel cot or no longer visit overnight when the babies are born. It sounds like there’s some serious conversations about how daughters gonna fit into their future that haven’t been had, and yet they’re making this huge commitment to each other.

My impulsive 9 year old is smart enough not to mess with a toolbox like OP's boyfriend did. Not even the cheaper toolbox in the kitchen. I don't understand what he was thinking or why OP didn't ask him when she caught him in the middle of his "art". She handled the situation well, but I would want to know what in the heck he thought he was doing.

Story 2: "Neither [teenage] boy is allowed a lock on their room? They're teens. They have a right to privacy, and if one boy is going in and taking things without permission it seems like the other needs a fucking lock. They both deserve to be able to have their own space they can lock up. They're not toddlers, they're teenagers. Practically (if not legally) young adults. Treat them like it.

Story 4: I would've been so mad. My husband is wheelchair bound and I know he struggles with feeling like a burden on people. He has been welcomed into my family with open arms and when we visit they happily accommodate him by putting up a portable ramp and helping him inside their house. He's never been excluded from my family's events. Even though my family has never treated him like a burden he has told me he still feels like one and I need to keep reassuring him that my family love him and he's now a part of it and they'll do whatever to make sure he's included. They do it out of love for us and because they want both of us there. If this had happened to him I don't think he'd handle it well and it's likely he'd not want to do things with them again. Her whole family are the AH. I would seriously consider LC after that stunt.

She wants her to feel welcome all the time, but if it's not her bedroom she can't personalize it so it feels like home. Whether or not that qualifies her as an a-hole, it definitely is harmful to this girl. Also, being welcome as a guest, since she's the BF's daughter, is tantamount to just not being welcome. I do know something about this from personal experience. I think that guest remark is very telling. God forbid the two of you do your work from laptops at the kitchen table.

Story 3 wow. Okay, so it's not like they're going in to his room to harass him but still some people need their privacy. That's his one space he can go to relax and have things the way he left it. It comes down to a lack of respect that his brother won't respect his boundaries. I think getting the lock would be the best option if telling the other brother he can't borrow his things without permission. Privacy, respect, and boundaries are key in a family relationship to instill trust.

Story 1: I was fuming mad. Until I heard the update. Story 3: reminds me about our blended family. When the girls were younger (21 &23now) my stepdaughter had a habit of stealing my daughter’s money and clothes. It caused a LOT of tension in the house. I had to put a lock on my daughter’s bedroom door. Lord stepdaughter was a nightmare in her teenage years and caused a LOT of problems in our marriage. Thankfully she has outgrown it and became a lovely young lady. The girls have gotten closer now.
