@Britton_ThompsonКүн бұрын
Yes it is. Just so you know, it's pronounced "O•ryan." It's named after the constellation Orion, who was the god of the hunt in Roman mythology. Rumor has it, they named it that because they were constantly hunting for a sound they could lock in on. Since they didn't, and they enjoyed all the twists and turns it made, they just named it 'Orion' because it was constantly hunting/searching for sounds

Ah yes, come to the metal side. Your guitar playing will explode in the process of learning these songs, at least it did for me. I know that exact feeling of wanting to pick up my guitar the moment the riff hits you! Start practising fast downpicking on the lower E string as well as galloping (Like Battery) to a metronome. Fundamentals of metal and when you mix it with melodic phrases the magic happens. I suggest And justice for all next. Incredible album which is just as good as MOP and has more fast paced drumming. I suspect you will absolutely love Blackened and Shortest straw when going to the gym.

Dude, you’ve stumbled upon an incredible rabbit hole. Next album reactions should be “Ride the Lightning” (which was kinda the blueprint for Puppets), and the self-titled black album “Metallica”, which was their major commercial breakthrough. Or, if you’re super excited, just start at the beginning with “Kill Em All” (1983) and work your way through until you get bored.

Also - Perfect followup album to listen to from these guys is "...And Justice for All". They got even more aggressive and experimental with that one, it's the one directly after Master of Puppets.

I've been playing guitar for a long time now and Metallica was one of the early bands that really got me excited about guitar. I learned this album front to back, and have gone on to learn much more complicated and crazy songs, but I pretty regularly come back to playing Metallica because while I'd say they're usually in the more "moderate" range of difficulty, it's always the perfect combination of "somewhat difficult" with "fun as hell to play". Pretty sure over the years they're the most frequently played band of mine.
@Ieeho98Күн бұрын
Since you play guitar, how difficult of a song to cover is Atlas Rise by Metallica? I ran into a band called The Warning and they were at The Whiskey in LA (in 2019?) and by request by the owner they played it. They also have their re-imagined cover of Enter Sandman on Metallica's Blacklist Album
@andrewsitek190Күн бұрын
@@Ieeho98 atlas rise isn't too bad. I personally don't think their newer stuff since master of puppets is necessarily hard, they just have their somewhat difficult riffs but not too bad once you're used to playing their stuff

The rhythm guitar part of Metallica songs is relatively easy, the solo's are more complex of course. I learned how to play the intro of this song in about 3 days, with just youtube tutorials. I prefer tablature vs sheet music. My current daily player is a Jackson SL2 Soloist, Marshall JCM900 2x12, some decent pedals. My neighbors hate me

The guitar solo where the song Master of Puppets slows down is actually a duel guitar solo with Kirk Hammet (lead guitar) and James Hetfield (rhythm guitar) both playing slightly different solos. I didn't figure that out until the 3rd time I saw Metallica live a few years ago and it blew my mind!

Welcome to the metalverse. Metallca is a pretty good starting point, but I think most people new to metal are shocked by the amount of sub-genres in metal. As with most things, people have a hard time universally agreeing which genre that bands fit in, and a lot of metal bands end up taking elements from multiple sub-genres so it's sort of a moot point. Metallica is one of the "big four" in the sub-genre of Thrash Metal, the other three being Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. Metallica is a good example of a band starting in one genre and evolving into others. Their first album and most of their second album would be categorized as thrash metal, but I'd argue this album and those after it wouldn't really be thrash metal as it is much more melodic and less "thrasiness" like in sanitarium, orion, etc. Being an R&B/hip hop/rap fan, I'd recommend some bands in the "Nu Metal" genre. Nu Metal blew up in the 2000s with bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against The Machine, etc. and they fused heavy/metal music with rap and R&B. I think that would be a good bridge genre for you to get the best of both worlds. For a full album, I'd recommend Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory. I have to believe you've heard of them and probably a song or two on the radio over the last 20 years but this album is where they blew up and it is fantastic from front to back. For a more contemporary band, I'd recommend Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden. I don't really want to get into much about what they are, I think they're just best to be explored and that is their third album and is incredible. That album got them signed with RCA records which is a pretty big deal for a metal band.
@JayCluessКүн бұрын

@PikeBishop1 yeah Hetfield has better vocals, Dave is definitely an aquired taste. But Dave writes better riffs, and Marty plays circles around Kirk, they're not even in the same caliber😂😂
@PikeBishop1Күн бұрын
@@thechuube8442 Vocals are sort of a huge part of a song, though. Dave is actively annoying and kind of laughable to most newcomers (I'm used to him). I don't agree about better riffs, of course that is subjective. And Martry/Kirk thing, agree but music isn't about technicality or who can play shred as fast as possible. Comfortably Numb solo is considered one of the greatest of all time and it's "easy" comparatively. I think Marty was the best part of MD (when he was in it, it has had like 50 members and essentially is a mercenary outfit for musicians).
@PikeBishop1Күн бұрын
@@thechuube8442 Unforgiven, One, Ride the Lightning, Fade to Black etc etc. - Kirk has written some of the most memorable solos ever in metal. So the fact that he isn't a god tier shredder yet has made such a mark is impressive. Again though, Love Marty. I respect MD as a whole and Dave too, a lot, for his resilience and tyranny of will. A lot of MD fans are mostly obnoxious loudmouths with bitter sibling syndrome
@thechuube844210 сағат бұрын
@PikeBishop1 Megadeth doesn’t just play metal, it obliterates the genre’s boundaries and takes it to a level that Metallica could never reach. Metallica panders to mainstream tastes, watering down metal for mass appeal, Megadeth’s music transcends the limits of the genre, shattering the confines of the Anglo-American sphere and pushing metal into uncharted territories. Mustaine's riffs aren’t about being "memorable" for a passive audience. They demand engagement. His compositions are not pre-packaged for mainstream consumption like Metallica’s formulaic solos, they're raw, complex, and unapologetically aggressive, integrating influences that extend beyond the predictable rock structure. It’s not just about speed or technicality; it's about sublating metal itself, fusing the genre with deeper political critique, existential angst, and even global influences that Metallica can only dream of reaching. Metallica stopped evolving after Master of Puppets, recycling the same tired formulas, while Megadeth continued to challenge and redefine what metal could be well into the 90s. The idea that Kirk’s “memorable” solos somehow elevate Metallica over Megadeth is laughable sorry lmao. Megadeth’s approach doesn’t cater to Anglo nostalgia or safe riffs; it obliterates the limitations of genre, showing that true metal isn’t about comfort, it’s about breaking through, transcending cultural boundaries, and pushing the listener to confront something far more challenging and profound than a catchy hook. If you can’t see that, you’re just stuck in the shallow end while Megadeth is out there sublating metal’s essence and making it into something far more elevated and enduring.
