@@pinnipedwithhumanqualities5276 I've only just been recommended this video but this seems to be what most of the comments are about. This is a serious question, does the age of the creature really matter to people? as in, do they/(you) prefer to eat veal instead of beef? Why is it better to eat a baby over an adult? do "memories" taste bad or something?
@pinnipedwithhumanqualities52764 жыл бұрын
@@4pThorpy Yup, memories make the flesh of the beast taste dull. Only the infants can be consumed, as they are unsullied by the hardships of a long life and thus taste sweeter. (Just kidding). All jokes aside, If it is a mammal or any other vertebrate, I personally think it is worse to eat an baby than an adult simply because the creature hasn`t even had a chance at life yet (but I prefer not to eat meat anyways). And taking a baby cow away from it`s parent is cruel to the calf and to the mother (not that eating meat in general isn`t cruel, buts that`s beside the point). Beefs cows don`t even get a chance to get old, because they are all killed in the prime of their lives anyways. However, if you are talking about about a very old, wild creature, it is a different story. That clam is very older than the beef cows and other meat or fish that most people eat. It is probably even older than the people eating it. A creature that has lived that long is also home to a variety of other life and had become an important part of its ecosystem, as you could see in the video by the other invertebrates and the algae living on and in its shell. An animal that has lived that long has beaten the odds of nature and deserves to keep on living and be respected and honoured. It is a miracle for a mollusc to survive long enough to get that big. Whereas a farmed animal is bound to be killed and eaten since birth and has a set lifespan based on how humans take care of it. I would feel the same way about an ancient wild tree being cut down too. It is just disappointing to see something that has managed to survive for so long in the wild get killed in an instant be a human with so many advantages against it. In summary: I think eating lamb, veal, or any other baby mammal is cruel because mammals are social, emotional beings that have strong attachments to their young and to their parents. Sessile invertebrates like clams, which are broadcast spawners, literally never take care of their young and don`t develop social bonds with other clams. And I want to make it clear that I dont support killing baby clams`(or other animals) either. *Adult* clams are different from *ancient* clams. My general rule would be `don`t eat babies, because they haven`t even lived yet, and don`t eat elders because they deserve to be respected and taken care of`. I know that was kind of a long explanation, sorry. I hope I made sense though lol.
@4pThorpy4 жыл бұрын
@@pinnipedwithhumanqualities5276 I'm a meat eater and also have these kinds of thoughts, where I feel like I justify eating meat to myself by prioritizing what is and isn't OK to eat. It's strange how easy it is to rank how worthy a creature is of death for the simple pleasure of tasting it. Like most, I eat and try not to think about it. It's just interesting to me how the general consensus is "How dare you eat that very old creature" since it shows most people also seem to prioritize "meat ethics" based on the age of the creature or how much we feel like it has "accomplished" in its life. I still don't fully understand the idea, but it does seem to "feel" better, like it eases our guilt of eating the creature if we can say "well, it lived a nice life", but I think that's more about "us" as people rather than the creatures...because if we actually cared, we wouldn't eat them in the first place.
@pinnipedwithhumanqualities52764 жыл бұрын
@@4pThorpy I agree. I know some people who only eat meat if it has minimal effects on the environment, but don`t necessarily think about the well-being of the individual animals they are consuming. I guess most people who eat meat have to face guilt about what it means to eat a sentient being, or at least what impact our food choices will have on ecosystems. In some hunting-based cultures, people don`t eat female animals. In lots of indigenous cultures in north america, there is some form of reciprocity between the hunter and the animal, where people take responsibility for killing something for food and make sure that they are not impacting the population of animals or their habitat. Although it is completely natural for us to eat them, we evolved to be thoughtful and philosophical about life lol.

I could NOT agree with you more! who in the hell was the first person to cut one of those bastards open and say to themselves "what pretty colors and all that slimey stuff looks so delicious", "lets just cook this cumwad up a little and eat the rest of it raw, but dont forget to chop the pretty colored ends up so it releases all the flavor in this sucker, MMMM MMMM!" Im actually felling a tab bit gaggy, it was hard to make it thru the whole video for real. lol!

Killing a living thing for food is what we do. I simply do not see the appeal of eating this thing. Looks to me like a tumor removed from someone's ass. I do not see any circumstance when I am going to pay money for such a dish. But than again .. I am sure someone may perceive the stakes, pork or lamb chops or fish that I like as something repulsive. To each it;s own. I am glad that we have such diversity and so many different tastes and cuisines. Still I am willing to try everything, just this seems way too much work for so little reward.

Giant clams are now cultured. Foraging wild giant clams is now prohibited. That is why they are so expensive. That black thing should be removed. It does not taste good. Somewhat bitter. I do not eat it raw. I love it cooked like any other seashells
