Dang, that saying hits hard. My family wasn't half as bad as his but I don't really talk to them anymore. They're cold, almost never seek out contact, and when we do get together it's all politics and arguing. Each sibling moved out and never looked back unless they were short of money and my mom can't seem to accept that it might be because she was always telling us not to be a bother... so now her kids don't bother her. As the youngest, I got left mostly to myself and no one cared about my life events much because they'd been there and done that, I guess. When my brothers became obsessive supporters of a famous bigot I decided I didn't need to talk to them even a little anymore. Now, my husband's family was closer to the OP's and he cut off contact entirely around 8 years ago. So yeah... if you don't feel that warmth, you find somewhere you do feel it and don't look back.

I think OP and her boss in the first story need to IMMEDIATELY get a restraining order. This sounds like a story that can escalate really really badly. Especially with how much OP’s ex-husband has been blaming her, I wouldn’t be surprised if he might try to physically harm OP in retaliation for destroying his delusional relationship with her boss. 50 calls is actually considered extremely excessive.

What OP went through was clearly abuse. His parents were pretty much training him to be a servant for his 2 younger brothers for life and the parents are upset that they lost that. The rest of the family knew about that as well. I would have loved to hear what sort of things were said by the mother after she was told that she shouldn't have mistreated OP so badly. I would pay anything to hear that argument. I would also bring the popcorn.

Congrats on escaping OP! I escaped with a young persons charity just before 19, best decision I ever made. I kept low contact until my early 20’s but the abuse never stopped, so I cut all contact. I couldn’t be happier, the trauma never goes away and I got diagnosed with cPTSD & PTSD when younger, got therapy and medicated, so now I live life for myself. It’s genuinely freeing being able to escape your abusers at a young age, you can carve out what life you want, figure out what goals you’d like to achieve, figure out who you are as a person, and I wish you all the joy and happiness for your future!

Similar happened to me. I went low contact in my 20s, but the abuse and manipulation continued so I went no contact. My abusive mother now tells everyone that my dad (who isn’t abusive) “brainwashed” me and that’s why I cut contact, which is utterly ridiculous. Dad doesn’t even think about her much less talk about her enough to “brainwash” me. I just don’t even care anymore. I’m married now so I’m perfectly happy with my own little family.

I have way less tolerance than op from the second story. At age 15 I was getting ready to... end my dad. Because he was a constant threat to both me and my mom when he was drinking, which was constantly. My mom divorced and moved me out with her right on time as it would have taken less than a month in those conditions for me to do it. I understand the feeling. When I was 6 years old I used to wish on stars that my parents would die in a car “accident” as long as no one else was hurt. Based on some of the things that a girl told me. I wish I'd stalked your back to her ways of murdered her stepdad. She was so messed up and scared that I couldn't convince her to ever hang out with me. Normally when you talk to a shy person you can at least tell when you're doing bad things to her/him and can make the choice whether to continue being rude but not with this girl. Her stepdad throughout all the stuff that she had used to take care of her pet only 3 days after it died because "it would help her get over it". That's what she said that he had said to her after she found out.

For the first story : OP file a restraining order asap. This man is going to psychotic levels of insanity. The reason I'm saying this is because he is gas lighting you but also this may of been starting to even the first few times you've mentioned your boss. File a restraining order but also file a police report about him coming in. Post the full context of this story everywhere even your apartment building and neighbors if you have any. Men like this will get very violent very quickly. He is being entitled and saying "he's not at fault" so he's in denial. He stalked someone for six months to cause a relationship to happen because she wasn't on bumble and then was pretending to be someone perfect for her by seeing everything she's posted. He did this in a year. He's known you for I presumably think MUCH longer. He may now become violent against you because he lost your boss which was his gf. All of which this was for and worth doing to him. You have to protect yourself and kick him hard and out of your life. Had posters up that he's banned from the premises even. He may become a violent stalker. Story 2 : OP there is a huge chance you're not related to your dad. I think you should however look into a lawyer for child abuse. You can sue them as an adult for that because the events were recent. But this would most likely help you long term so you can afford schooling and really focus because they can owe you child support as well because of how you were treated. That or payout for damages and you never having a child hood. This is a very serious crime you can do especially if you have friends who witnessed it. Take time to see what your options are and know you'll be loved for being who you are to others as long as you can move past the pain your parents inflicted on you.

Story 2: What messed up parents. They gotta be narcissists. Treating OP like a slave and wanting him to basically slave away for his brothers. So unfair. And his mom is shocked that he would leave? Is it just me, or does it sound like the OP from the second story might be adopted? They had each kid within less than 2 years of each-other, so timing couldn't have been the breaking point for the regret. Then there's the 'we kept you alive' part. Did they adopt the OP from a bad situation, and then regret their choice when they had bio-kids? Either way, that was a nasty Cinderella story there. They probably made the OP do so many sports to keep him out of the house so they could pretend he doesn't exist.

That first story is legitimately terrifying. First he stalked that poor woman, then he lied about who he was, if they slept together then he essentially r-ed her due to lying about who he was and what he had done to her, gaslit his wife, probably destroyed her ability to trust going forward, and created trauma in at least two people. He was a human wrecking ball all for his own selfishness.

Story 1: He is insane… The internet stalking? Fair most people do that if they have a crush, FOR A YEAR is creepy as anything. Not to mention how horrifying it is that he used OP’s phone to do so. While in a relationship! Liking all the company picture with OP’s boss is a entirely new level of creepy, and then STALKING the boss THE ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP is PSYCHOTIC and OBSESSIVE, He is a real life Joe from YOU level of stalking, now in a show that’s purely functional yes I enjoyed YOU in a real life situation however, that’s HORRIFYING. He literally slowly but surely built a relationship up from his time in the gym while getting all the information about her life from a employee who subconsciously gave it after months of being manipulated and tricked into thinking that he just admired her. He then used that knowledge to work his way into her life, not to mention the fit of rage/jealously he had from seeing her out with another man! And then relatively fast able to find out who that man was… JESUS CHRIST that man is 100% DANGEROUS and MENTALLY UNSTABLE, Op needs to get a restraining order on him and so does the boss. I wouldn’t be surprised if he specifically targeted OP due to her admiration and connection with the boss like some Messed up stepping stone to his PSYCHOTIC DREAM. Everything about that man is dangerous.

i cannot even begin to imagine how OP from the first story feels, that’s so much worse than just plain old cheating! He aimed to harm the most fragile parts of OP, “a woman like her wouldn’t look my way” ?? what does that say about the woman who is? him begging her not to ruin things because he’s never been happy in his life? ouch. Guess that means all of the time he spent with her was just wasted in his eyes. He is one of the worst kinds of humans. edit for the second story: this was a weird way to find out r/slash lives near me and OP most likely goes to my school.

When I confronted her on it, instead of saying it wasn't true and that she only loved me, she said "don't worry, he'd never be interested in me. He's made that clear." Unfortunately I was stupid enough to stay with her until a few more straws broke the camel's back. Don't settle for being second best, no one deserves that.

yes, so many of us come from situations/upbringing where we don't fully value ourselves ... so we will take anything that we can get ... but as we grow and expand into valuing ourselves more, we realize what we really want more clearly ... and often times this can make it seem like we were just settling before, but then we're not truly valuing the importance of the relationship we were in or the qualities of the experiences that we've had ... as those experiences, especially if negative, gave us the signal of change to make the choice to further improve our own life and well-being .. without (or with less) submission and sacrifice!

That husband... trying to gaslight his wife. First trying to convince her that he loves her and stalking another woman means nothing... and then trying to convince her that she owes him something, and should therefore help him get together with the woman he was stalking. Obsession is the right word for him. He may or may not be infatuated... but he definitely has never been in love. He just wants what he doesn't have and can't cherish what he does have... so even if he got the woman he was stalking, it wouldn't be too long before he finds a new person to obsess and stalk.

Story 2: when I was 17 in the year 2000, I helped a friend do exactly what this guy did. She turned 18 at midnight. At 2 am, I drove to her house, she snuck out, and I took her to another city where she got on a plane. She had a long distance relationship with a guy she met online Her mom was abusive physically, but also parentified her. She pulled her out of high school to be her 3 little brothers' full time care givers. She had dreams and mom wouldn't even let her get her GED. So I get home 16-18 hours later and my mom is freaking out telling me that her mom would file kidnapping charges on me and that I just got my friend killed because meeting people online was very new. What I found out later: Her abusive mom woke up several hours later and started calling our friends to find her. "No one" had any idea where she was but when she called my house and I was unaccounted for they knew she was with me. This was WAY before Cellphones were in everyone's pocket so they had to wait until I got back. Ending: I bet you want to know, did ahe survive? Did you get arrested for kidnapping? 😂🤣 I'm happy to report that not only did she survive, she and the guy are still together today. They dated for a long time. She went to college, they got married. They have 3 beautiful boys and a fantastic life. As scary as it was, helping her escapeis one of the things I've ever done that I'm most proud of. Being arrested was never an option as I told my mom that night. She was 18 and could do what she wanted.

The first story is something about of a horror movie from the bosses perspective. You go to the gym with a guy for a year and start to notice them. Then you find him on a dating site a year later and he says he's going through a divorce. He's the perfect guy and you have amazing chemistry. You think you've found the one until your employee comes up to you and says that he husband (soon-to-be ex) has been stalking you for the past year. He's so crazy that he was hunting down your nephew because he might have been a potential boyfriend. Nah there should actually be a rom-com where you see this loveable couple start to date only for it to be revealed that one of them was a stalker from even before the movie started.

That last story was amazing. My escape from abuse was similar, but DAMN I wish mine had been as clean as his! I was honest about where I was going in my note only because it was incredibly obvious that that’s where I would go and they’d never believe a fake location. I didn’t get to arrange things with my bank, so my mother was able to steal some money from 2 bank accounts that I couldn’t take her off of. I didn’t pack and leave in the middle of the night; I packed and left after they went to work. I had 2 friends help with that part instead of a cousin. My grandmother came to pick me up and take me to the airport to go live with her, so at least I’m not completely on my own like OP. Oddly enough, my mother ALSO called my accomplice with a sob story! She called one of the friends that helped me pack up everything and cried about how we were such a happy family and she has no idea why I’d ever do something like this. My friend didn’t do what the aunt did though. She just played dumb and said “yeah I had no idea she was leaving I’m just as surprised as you are” lol That way she couldn’t get any info about me through her. Also, I pieced the timeline together later and that sob story call happened while she was driving to the bank to screw me out of my money. Anyway, major Congrats to OP!

Story 1: No sugarcoating this, the now ex-husband already has intent to cheat after meeting the boss. What angers me about him is the lack of any courage to just break it off and pursue the boss. If the relationship is not working, just break it off and not cause emotional torment. No sympathy for this coward of a man, and he had this coming. Story 2: This is what we in the civilized world call "parentification", where parents literally just give up and place a child (usually the eldest) in charge, sometimes without any help at all. This is a form of emotional torture, and good on OP for just ditching those awful parents. I do feel a little bad for the younger siblings, since they are the product of their parents' enabling.
