I used to work in a TBI (traumatic brain injury) unit in a hospital. A good percentage of the patients were motorcycle accident victims. None were wearing helmets at the time. You might ride all your life without a helmet and never get in an accident, but it only takes once. You can be the best rider and follow all the safety precautions, but it only takes one incident that is completely out of your control to either end your life or worse. WEAR A HELMET!

Hospitals in my country have a short phrase for shiny and hot spring days: "It is liver day". Because motorcyclists tend to drive without helmet, like the weather and overestimate their skills, hospitals are flooded with near dead or braindead patients and as such on those days the number of organ donors spikes

I personally know someone who got into a motorcycle accident that by all accounts should have absolutely killed him. A pickup truck slammed into him at 30+ MPH and sent him flying into the car in front face first (and barely avoided crushing him completely). In 90% of possible timelines, that man is dead right now. He was wearing a helmet. The result? He’s pretty much recovered now. Helps that he is built like a human tank, but the helmet 100% saved his life from how he described what happened. Probably going to have some chronic pain for the rest of his life, but alive and with seemingly normal brain function. Wear your god damn helmets, people.

During highschool my family had an agreement with the school where I had to go to the nurses and take my meds for my ADHD (hyperactive and inattentive) as my metabolism is fast and by the time school ended I would have barely any of it in my system. I'd take two 30mg Adderall in the morning (around 7) and then two 30mg at lunch (around 12) and school let off by three. I always hated it when my teachers would call me out during class telling me to not forget to go down to the nurses office and take my meds before I went to lunch. And it was a very flippant thing for them do to, it was more of a side note then anything really, I had expressed my discomfort of them just announcing it to the class instead of just quietly pulling me to the side to remind me, some of them respected my wishes while some didn't.

@@Amish5226, My school nurse knew I was an insomniac cause kept getting sent to the nurse's office for falling asleep in my morning classes. At one point she had to warn me that too many times and I would get reported. Yeah, schools are dumb when it comes to kids needing to have their medicines whenever. I have asthma, and they used to lock up my rescue inhaler in the nurses office. I often had to walk/trot halfway across the school to get to it, while having an attack. It was awful. Eventually I just started to store it in my purse in a pocket on the inside and just use it whenever the teacher was occupied with something else and wouldn't hear it being used so they couldn't realize I had it on me and take it away.

The whole insulin one is me, just with an inhaler. I had to fricking HIDE that I had my inhaler on me and it wasn’t in the nurse’s office. There was no way in hell that I’d make it to the nurse’s office, if I had an asthma attack! This was the situation until I got to high school. I got in trouble the two or three times they found out I had it, but my mom would go momma bear on them, if they called her about it. For reference, I was a chronically sick child and I would go to school when my illnesses were mild enough. I used my inhaler while sick or exercising a lot. Just recess-ing too hard could make me winded or just having a little too much bronchitis would make me unable to breathe. I needed that damn inhaler to be on me 24/7. I’m glad my lungs got stronger, as I got older(still keep it nearby when I’m sick).

For a family of 5, our grocery bill is about $1,000 and I get $740 in EBT each month. The rest comes out of pocket, and I'm not always able to do that, either. That one about the insulin absolutely killed me, and I know you can't believe everything you read online but man I have seen authority figures in schools get power trippy over the weirdest shit, so I tend to believe. That kid was right to call 911, he had a valid medical issue which is legitimately life threatening without the proper maintenance denied to him by the school, I love that both the 911 dispatcher and that group of firemen were like "heh, we'll show em" and they came and did the ol door delete, which is I must say, way better than sending (what is very likely in the us to be a privatized) ambulance and EMT to simply deliver the kid his necessary dose of sugar regulation juice. I aspire to be chaotic good, I could definitely go around to some stores and sprinkle union cards here and there, that's actually pretty good. Hmm time to figure out which kind of card stock jives best with my laser printer... Dressing as a god of death to hand out motorcycle helmets is also absolutely fire, but as Lexi pointed out they're not cheap, but my state is also one of only 3 states to not require them by law. The one about insulin hits close to home but not about diabetes. I have a deathly allergy to nuts and my school wouldn’t let me carry my epinephrine which, if you didn’t know, is what will save in case of an incident in which my throat closes up and I suffocate to death. Keep in mind, I’m on the third floor for most of the day and the nurses office was on the first, they wouldn’t get to me fast enough. I had to go to the principal in order to tell him that I need to be able to carry my epi-pen since I know how to use it. I get to carry it now which is nice but they gave me the one that has no instructions so if anyone else uses it, they’ll be confused which is annoying. They also wouldn’t let me carry my inhaler and afrin (for my severe bloody noses) but I don’t plan on letting them know that I carry them anyway; they don’t know how expensive this stuff is anyway and treat it like it’s just an ordinary thing but neglect that these can literally save my life.
@CainXVII Жыл бұрын
I don't understand how this can be true. One person dying due to their epipen being locked up should get them sued out of business. And how can a nurse accept that? They should know better.

When I was little and going through my "no crusts" phase, my mother would make my school lunch sandwiches crustless and save the crusts for the weekend and make French toast sticks with them (French toast is apparently best made with dry, stale bread so it absorbs the eggs well, and my mother was French, so I didn't question it). No food waste and absolutely delicious. That woman had her moments.

Okay so seriously, trying to undo a refund is such a weirdly painful experience. I had an shipment not arrive, the company refunded it after 3wks (and contacting shipping co), 2wks later it showed up, but because they'd issued the refund they couldn't do anything over the phone. Luckily I have one of their stores semi-local, but I had to bring the items in to 'return' them, then have them rung up again to pay for them. Wasn't a hassle but it was a strangely overcomplicated process for sure Edit: guy who broke into the school was in Buffalo, NY and saved a bunch of people who otherwise would have frozen to death or asphyxiated in their cars when multiple feet of snow fell in a very short period of time. Took weeks for roads to be cleared, it was really bad
@CainXVII Жыл бұрын
I don't know about US but at least here there are rules for how long shipping can take and if it took 5 weeks you are elligible for a refund anyways
@Crosshill Жыл бұрын
sometimes its easier for the company to issue refunds than deal with the hassle of getting items returned, and anything that doesnt operate through the usual workflow is rarely worth bothering with. i wouldnt feel too bad about just accepting the refund and the shipment
@bellablue5285 Жыл бұрын
@@Crosshill that was the issue, they wanted the items returned to store to be shipped back, but the store had no clue what to do with them. Ended up being lesser of two hassles just to pay for them in store

About the Lazy Cop response, there was actually a guy that was an alcoholic in my neighboring town. The cops were friends with him and whenever they pulled him over they wouldn't ticket him or put him in the drunk tank, they would just take him home. One time they didn't watch him go inside and drove off after letting him out. He wandered into the road and got hit by a car because he was in the middle of the countryside with no lights for visibility.

Funny thing about the gifted program here in my hometown. They only took in kids who came from a specific background, for example: 2 parent homes, not on any free lunch programs, and attended church. I and a couple others were passed over for the gifted program because we didn't fit this criteria despite getting higher grades than the "gifted" students and one of us being bumped up a grade. I was supposed to be bumped up but my mom refused on the advice of my grandma. Instead we eventually got put in special ed because we eventually stopped doing the homework and did the bare minimum. I still got high grades on tests and read books high above my grade level, and was put into special ed for a year and a half. The reason i got out was because the teacher saw what i was reading asked me about it and i gave a full summary of the story up to that point. He recommended i get evaluated, i was and was put in regular class and even got ap classes in highschool. The American school system is a joke.

14:14 for context, currently in Lebanon, due to an economic crisis and mass inflation, everyone who has bank accounts that hold money in USD has their money held back and inaccessible for pretty much the foreseen future. 25:36 While I get the sentiment behind this, those signs are usually there because human food like bread is dangerous for the ducks and can make them sick. It’s also not a great idea to feed wild animals in general, both because the food itself can make them sick and because they can become dependent on being fed and not be as cautious around humans as they should. If you’re going to break rules, please don’t hurt innocent animals in the process.

So My father, born in 1963, has been a gamer since Pong, and thus raised me with a very above-average knowledge of internet safety and electronics. My first video game console was when I was 5, and by highschool, I knew more than enough about spyware, internet scams, who sees your search history, etc., to avoid ever getting in trouble. In highschool, some teachers pulled me aside after class, and told me, not offered, TOLD me, to take a school laptop home so I could do homework better. I Immediately saw through this ploy, and decided to play along. For those that don't know, in an effort to not have kids be on school computers, schools would give horny teenagers these devices capable of accessing the internet and displaying images, and let the hormones get the kids to look up porn, only for the school to illegally monitor that, get the kid in trouble for being a sex offender, and prevent them from using the computers. Thing is, the only code overseer that sees where you go online, aside from your search history, is your internet provider, and anyone else that does so IS USING ILLEGAL SPYWARE. So because I knew this, I deleted the search history after fapping off, returned the school computer, and when they confronted me about it, I said the only one who should know that is my home's internet provider, and if they knew that, they had been spying on me, which I was pretty sure was illegal. The teachers immediately shut up, and briskly walked away. A few weeks later, they tried to say I was a sex offender, and couldn't use the computer; I kept using the computer, so they called in the on-site police officer, who I explained to, that I had never accessed such images on a school network, and as such, if the school had proof, it had been illegally collected, and to ask the teacher that gave me the laptop, about it. I didn't use the school computers for the rest of the day, and sure enough, next day no teacher said a thing When I used a school computer for my schoolwork. If Your school district is doing this, make sure to let them know how illegal it is. If they say otherwise, feel free to sue them.

When we had to choose a class representative our class clown started shouting "Vote for Zachariah everyone! Zachariah is the best!". Then he wrote "Zachariah" in the candidates list. There was no one named Zachariah in my class. However, this lead to a meme when if you were doing something wrong and someone asked you about it, everyone would blame Zachariah. Like "Stop talking so loudly!" - "It's not me, it's Zachariah!". "Did you spill water in the hallway?" - "No, Zachariah did it!"
