Call the police, show them all the texts proving that the mother just deliberately abandoned the children, and let Child Protective Services take over. Any mother who would pull a stunt like this deserves to lose custody of the children. Someone like this is the same type of person who, when the kids were a few years older, would simply leave them locked alone in the house, hopefully with food and water left out.

That one didn't come back for over a month and lucky for her my mom took care of the four year old boy she just dumped at our house. I was literally thinking "Call the CPS already" Oh also, my mom almost called the CPS for my niece (That lives in Colorado, we live in Washington) because her mom went to town for shopping and left a pie in the oven, along with her two small siblings (5 and 2), my niece had called mom to ask how to know the pie was ready. Mom then called my nieces mom and started talking to her. My neices mom tried to calm her saying that she would go back after she got done getting groceries and thats when mmom threatened her with calling the CPS, Neices mom hurried home at the thought mom had actually called the CPS. Same deal. I stole a keychain from autozone when I was like 9. My parents let me know I could get in huge trouble and drove me back. They told me I could either go in myself and apologize and ask what I had to do to make it right or, they’d take me in and I’d get grounded, cuz that’s how it works for adults. I went in and apologized and the old dude gave me a sad smile (which to this day haunts me more than anything else) and said I could just leave it on the counter, or I could buy it. It was 3.50. I paid him(my parents had made me bring my little wallet, probably knowing that might be the case) and apologized. He said not to worry, and asked me, ASKED me just please not to do it again. There was just something in his eyes, you could tell he was more worried about me than the 3.50 that BURNED an impression in my mind that I’ve never forgotten. Empathy is the best answer, I never forgot my lesson. It’s literally all it takes

I once accidentally stole from a shop and it took me almost 10 years to admit that. Basically I dragged my mom into this store at the mall while my brother and father went to the electronics store. I received a phone call by my dad (yes I had a phone when I was 9/10 it was funny) asking where we were. I told him and we met before heading back home. When dad parked under our building I was looking for my phone in my Hello Kitty bag (I still own it hehe). There I found a hair clip inside that wasn't mine but was the same I saw on one of the shelves. I figured out I must have knocked it into my bag as I answered the phone. I was so scared my mom would punish me I kept it a secret. I hid this hair clip somewhere. I'm still to this day afraid of confrontation, I think I would have cried in front of the cashier. I believe it's my mom that makes me feel that way. I was afraid of being punished so I never told her. Once she found this thing I lied telling her it was a thing my bestie gave me. She was known to have all the craziest things. I only told my parents two years ago and they were surprised why I didn't tell them earlier. I said I was afraid of getting punished or made fun of by my brother.

I mean don’t get me wrong. I would like to be able to return my items when there are no longer have any used to me or are broken and exchange them for the full value of the item purchased so I never have to spend actual money buying things I need anymore because I could just return what I don’t want need or what’s broke. Ugh that food bank one hit me. I volunteer for a local organization and I would run a few of their outreach programs. The biggest one that I organized was a program giving families everything needed to prepare a full thanksgiving meal, all they had to do was pick it up. That’s not an understatement either. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, green bean casserole, canned/frozen vegetables, 2 types of rolls, drink mix, pumpkin pie, jello/pudding deserts, whipped topping, and anything extra I could squeeze out of the budget. (Milk, butter, eggs, fresh fruit, etc.) I would even include crayons and coloring pages/cards/activity pages I personally designed so kids would be entertained while the adults were cooking, and everything would be packed up in new storage totes a/o laundry baskets that they could keep. The week before pick up day was the worst. Some people would try to cancel their application last minute and ask to be transferred to our Christmas program, as a family can only be in one holiday program any given year. (To be fair, our Christmas program was just as nice. We would dress as Santa and his helpers and deliver presents on Christmas Day.) Now when applying to my program they must sign an agreement reminding them of this fact, and it also stated that canceling an application after confirming participation in my program (I confirmed all applicants just after Halloween) would result in being disqualified from both programs. So pick up day would come and they would be a no-show. When I would call to send them a friendly reminder they would then try and force the matter (usually saying they spoke with the other program’s chairman or my “boss” and that they said it was ok. The boss thing always made me laugh as when it comes to this entirely volunteer run organization, that program’s chairman is the boss and as long as a chairman wasn’t breaking any rules outlined in the organization’s charter, their decisions were respected by the board.) *When they realize that I wasn’t falling for it and they were about to lose out on my program as well, they would try and get me to DELIVER the food they originally agreement to come get. Again - Ugh.

I remember the time when I was about six years old, I stole a $1 candy bar from the corner store down the street from my house. I had snuck it into my mom’s shopping bag before she left the store.
