16:15 For people with anxiety: keep in mind that this doesnt always work. It helps to bring you back to reality, but remember; anxiety works differently for EVERYONE and anxiety never works logically. This does usually help calm you down, but it depends on how your anxiety works and how severe the attack is. Every coping mechanism works differently for everyone; it takes trial and error to figure out which works best for you. I found it often also helps to find out the trigger (if there is one; sometimes there isnt, since again, anxiety does not work logically). I once had an anxiety/panic attack because of a teacher of mine and doing this didn't help calm me down. Like I said, it depends on the severity. Hyperventilating often makes it worse as well and can make you light headed, so try to control your breathing as well as you can (it's okay if it's not perfect; it's hard to control anything in that situation, especially if you're hyperventilating.) -A teen with 2 anxiety disorders
@sylvrwolflol Жыл бұрын
On the flip side, the most effective way to calm someone _else_ is by: -making your presence known without touching, speaking loudly, or making quick movements -gentle affirmation if they start babbling, nothing committal and _no giving unsolicited advice_ -saying that you're here, you're not going to leave, it's okay. -If they request for you to leave, respect their wishes. Check back in later with comfort food or something similar, give them at least 5-10 minutes. From an adult who has similar problems, and has had a lot of time to learn on both sides of the equation.

I've found that grounding only helps me when the cause of the anxiety attack is a "what if" situation with no basis in my current circumstances. If it's something that's happening right now, or just happened, it doesn't work. Because the event is/was a part of reality, being brought back to reality doesn't do anything for it in my case. Thank you for clarifying that it doesn't always work for everyone. A lot of people will see one mental health tip and apply it to a situation where it doesn't help, which just stresses them out more.

It is instead based around how it feels outside in a sort of percentage based system.

ftr a lot of american measurement comes down to "yes, the alternative is cleaner and easier mathematically, but this way is easier to use without the proper tools". your thumb is about two inches. your foot is usually *around* a foot long. a tablespoon is about how big your actual dinner spoon is gonna be. 55 F is about 55% warm, so it's okay to wear a t-shirt but some people might want a jacket. we measure by volume rather than weight because all materials weigh different stuff but "a cup" of p much anything looks like about the same amount, so you can just eyeball it. (as opposed to 20 grams of flour v.s. 20 grams of blueberries, which looks pretty different) in other words, a lot of it is just general convenience of not NEEDING to pull out a scale or a thermometer or a measuring stick. yes, it makes doing exact math suck, and i DO think we should be using the metric system for exact maths, but for every day use the imperial system honestly ain't that bad. it strikes you as inconvenient because you're not used to it and the numbers come out weird. but it ain't ABOUT the numbers, it's about how useful it is to your local hillbilly with shitty internet and no kitchen scale.

5:45 it's none of the above, evil exists to teach us things like empathy and compassion and allow us the chance to grow as Spiritual Beings.

If god was unable to create a universe where evil was not needed to teach compassion and empathy and allow us the chance to grow as spiritual beings, he is not all-powerfull. If he was unwilling, he is not all-loving.

Doesn't matter God could have done so without evil It doesn't matter why evil exists it's the fact it exists at all And honestly your answer seems even worse than saying it's to test us You don't have to have something bad happen to empathize or show compassion and how can you grow into something good if you're surrounded by evil

@@Cosmic_407 could he have done so without defeating the purpose of free will If not he's not all powerful if so why not Any argument you make doesn't matter because God should be able to do it without evil like I said it's not about the reason it's the fact that it shouldn't exist in the first place and god should be able to have it not exist while keeping free will in tact

The reason America has it around the imperial system is because of Britain and by the time we were given the notice we had completely built our infrastructure around the imperial system

Americans have it set up like that because it requires a lot of working together to change it and there's more important things to work on. When I was in elementary/grade/primary (last century) school the teacher told us it was because the old people are too set in their ways and refuse to change.

Well back in the 70s the united states passed the metric conversion act and created a special administrative board to control the transition for school curriculums, Road signs, and Gasoline infrastructure among other things. The board had little real power but could examine facts and determine the best course of action. It's important to note that the conversion program was stipulated as voluntary in the act and there are some industries that did transition to the metric system though they tend to be internationally geared industries like trade and the sciences and manu consumer goods have both netric and standard measures on them. In the end the metric board was disbanded in 1981 after being largely ineffective. I am by no means an expert in this particular aspect of US history. I imagine that the problem came in trying to convince the states, congress cant really force the states to comply without abusing 2 specific clauses in the constitution and if the metric board was being unproductive then it makes sense for it to be dissolved.

Fun fact: planting a few native plants is even less maintenance than grass for your yard, unless you are in an area that is a natural grassland (and then there’s native grasses). But legally you’ll probably have to mow it about weekly anyways so why not just sow some groundcover plants that don’t grow to just whatever height is possible to reach without collapse like grass, but only a couple inches high?
