@@jamesahibbard Yeah, I use that kind toothpaste bottle. Nobody asked but, we have different styles to identify which is toothpaste and which is a soap dispenser so I don't think it's a crappy design to people who buy them since it has an unique design and easy to be spotted/stand out.

Yeah it's pretty unfortunate how so much stuff is marketed for disabled people, but not often *openly* marketed so it can potentially be harder for disabled people to find and also means able bodied folks look at it and think 'who's lazy enough to need this' or 'this is such terrible design' etc.

reminds me of some special ear'plugs' that were advertised all over KZbin and Facebook a while ago to improve the clarity of the sound we hear. I thought it was some audiophile/pseudoscientific snake oil bullshit product that has no actual use besides wasting resources to make some shady company money. Took me a while to find out their actual purpose was to help autistic persons and those with sensory issues to cope with noisy environments like restaurants, train stations, conventions etc. If only they advertised it that way, preferably only to those people who'd need it, instead of blowing their budget on advertising it with misleading promises to just about everyone all over FB and YT... 🤦‍♂️

it's the entire thing of "as seen on TV" = snuggies were designed for people in wheelchairs who struggle to keep blankets on in cold weather. The sockinator (puts your socks on) was designed for people with limited mobility who can't bend.

The plastic scratch card is actually much better design, and this is a case of misinformation. They are made of PETG, the rare 100% recyclable no-waste plastic used in water bottles. Previous paper cards were non-recyclable due to the amount of adhesives for the many security layers and the metallic ink used in many security layers themselves. This change to clear plastic was a purposeful shift to make the tickets more environmentally friendly through recycling, paired with recycling bins provided behind the sales counters if the store accepted one. It not only is a greener solution, but the security went up and rhe costs down as well. Win-win.

I mean good on them but how many people would recycle it? how easy is it to recycle it? Like do they just have to get to a normal recycle bin or do they have special ones? Also why put the recycling bin behind the counter? they use automatic digital machines to dispense and check tickets in allot of places now. So they just go in there or the nearby trash can next to the machine.

@@HoloSohma I'm not sure since I didn't design the changes, but anecdotally I've noticed most people scratch their tickets on the spot and ask the clerk to dispose of the losing tickets afterward. Also that may just have been a marketing stunt and the actual intent was that the tickets are made of recycled materials. Hard to tell for certain.

With the toothpaste dispenser, I don't think the crappy design is the dispenser itself, it's more the fact that there is basically no indication on it whatsoever that it is toothpaste and not hand soap, which is what most people would assume based on its shape. I like the design, but it needed to use something larger than 10 point font to say "toothpaste."

To feminists who've never taken a linguistics class: it's the wo- that means female. And female has nothing to do with male, they two separate origins. Female came from latin, woman was germanic. The way that neo-capitalists like to market equality irritates me as a queer woman. I'm not a girlboss, just a boss. Long story short: Man used to mean person and you were either a wereman or a wifman. Were meaning guy or man and wif meaning female. Hence werewolf meaning guy wolf and in German, the difference between man and Mann (one vs husband) and the origins of wife. Female's origins were of/relating to breastfeeding or suckling. Similar origins of fetus. --- I explain this a lot to women who think they're being clever, because it really misunderstands how languages work. Like the issues with latin/o/a/e, you really need to look into a language to start to change it and really gotta update your words to fit the cultural context.
