Thanks for shooting this review. Familiar locations :) I have the Zoom H1n and I believe it is very versatile and actually sounds pretty good if you know how to handle it. Yes, it is a stereo microphone in XY config and it is therefore directional. But that is usually a pro not a con. Usually you want to supress unwanted ambient noise. If you are shooting your voice indoors, you still may want to point one of the microphon capsules in your direction and use only that one channel when editing. It helps reduce room reverberations. If you are shootng interviews, point one side of microphone towards the first person and the other microphone towards the other person speaking. Then during editing you will have clean sound of both speakers, you only have to play with mixing the two channels. If you are recording ambience or a music or stage performance, turn the H1n towards the sound so that it picks up stereo of about 90° angle. I have other recorders as well as several other microphones, but the Zoom H1n is one of my favourites for its versatility and compactness.
