Using Lavaliers into a Recorder

Two types of lavalier into a recorder will really increase your options. An omni and a cardioid lav can cover most situations and is a really cheap upgrade.

Very informative Ian, I've learnt something today thought all Lav Mics were the same didn't realise there were omni & cardio. Apart from the cheap lav Mic for a smartphone I also have a Audio technica atr 3350 which I plug into my canon EOS M50. Best wishes Jon

Thanks Jon. Yes, a cardioid lav can be really handy. It’s really nice that this series is attracting quite a few beginners to audio because, that’s exactly who it’s aimed at. So I’m trying to keep it simple if possible. Two outstanding lavs are from a company called Micbooster.com. Omni - Little Clippy em172. Amazingly low noise floor. The cardioid I’m using is no longer made (em184) but Micbooster have an alternative that sounds about the same or another one that he’s sending me which has lower noise, but is more expensive. I’d say that lav mics really change audio quality big time, whether you wear them, plant them, hang them or even use them as a tiny shotgun on camera. They are extremely versatile. Is there a way to lock the gain wheel?

No. Only auto gain. It is easily moved!

@@iancraig not safe then with lavalier. I am new into videomaking. Do you think autogain is not a good choice?

Auto gain isn’t the best choice because it raises noise in quieter sections. To be honest, I’ve never liked that wheel gain control on the front. Far too easily moved by accident.

@@iancraig thanks a lot, I will stilly buy it, good price for the quality, but im gonna use dji mic for lavalier. Do you think I could easily record stereo sound from the dji in the h1n? Multitrack or just one? Thanks a lot for your help!

No multitrack available on H1. Only stereo. I use the DJI mic. Great little wireless system. Just one thing.... the DJI wireless transmitters can record audio internally as a WAV file so for speech, you don't even need the wireless receiver. I often use just the transmitter and use the WAV file that I've recorded on it. The DJI is not only a wireless mic, but a mini recorder as well.

Hi Andy. All of my comments were deleted 3 days ago. I'm absolutely gutted. I sent 3 messages to KZbin and got a response from them on a KZbin information video. They said that they had a few similar reports and were looking into it. They also say that they will get back to me and thank you for my patience!!! This will affect my ratings big time since I am a new KZbinr as far as making videos go and I am really not happy about it. Trouble is that no response means that you have nothing to reply to and no satisfaction. What on earth would someone who relies on KZbin for an income do? My channel is nature based,not controversial and I've never made any derogatory or inflammatory comments to anyone,not my nature to do so.
