R.E.M. Murmur album cover location in 2011

The field full of Kudzu featured on the cover of Murmur is alive and well...It's been surprisingly untouched for 28+ years!
Filmed on my trip to Athens, GA 8-13-11

It's beautiful. Kudzu is visually stunning ,yet has the propensity to kill.

@momothemilkman if you search google earth in athens, it is right off the intersection of Chattooga Ave and Hiawassee Ave. There is an opening at this intersection where there are train tracks, you just go to the left on the tracks and walk a half block and the field is on the left of the tracks, just past the houses...once you see that concrete block it all makes sense...

I lived real close to that spot on New Ave. for about 5 years...didn't realize the kudzu field was there till after I moved though!

@Thatbeat1974 The Kudzu, because I didn't know anything about where the cover was taken until my friend went on the Athens music history tour...I walked into an album cover! That's never happened before!

The only difference is the ruin on the left. It looks like it crumbled quite a bit over the years. I always wondered what kind of building it once was.

I've been to Athens a few times to check out some of R.E.M.'s history, but I've never been to that spot. Where exactly is that?

Really cool, nice work. You know what might also look good if you could be bothered doing a re-edit? Fading (shaking?) through from your video to the actual cover image and back again. Possibly more trouble than it's worth though, I know.
