As a German and a person who studied history, I'm still shocked and concerned how many hardcore Nazis lived a normal life after the war whilst they denied so many people the same.
@Arkylie

One of the stories I'd like to write was prompted when my mom pointed out that men who were in a gang violating women a few decades ago were nowadays just seemingly normal grandpas and you wouldn't even think about it if you met them. I wondered about the drama in befriending a person who seems normal but turns out to be the one who hurt you decades ago.

I think a good book if you wanna get an even closer perspective is “Ordinary Men” by Christopher Browning and how people who have done awful things were quite literally just average people before and pretty much the same afterward to some extent. Hence the name.

It's not a defense, but I do wonder how "normal" they actually lived. People around them have had to have known. It's not like the world kept quiet about it when the number and weight of crimes was found out. I can't see anyone truly living normally with that kind of baggage over their heads no matter how much they ignore it. I guess it's cause I am of German AND Poland decent and relatives on both sides of my family escaped Nazi regime for not supporting the rule using the Underground. According to them, no way can any Nazi live normally after the war because when you force others to live a lie, you end up lying to yourself and living one too.

@@girl1213 in Germany a lot of people who were born after the war did and do not know what their parents and grandparents did during it. Most don't think they were part of the "bad bunch" but reluctant followers at most. That is statistically not possible. I have to include myself in that group: I don't know what my great grandparents did in the war(my grandparents were under 10 in 1945). But I can't assume that they were all innocent. At least one great grandfather was in the NSDAP.

Also, not sure because "prestigious" anything is outside of my tax bracket, but anything like camp/extended stay/sleep away also adds to childcare cost and few extended/boarding camps cover the whole set of school break times, so it's possible the general childcare provider also offers this service and then they were paying for a separate camp so it would affect two parts of the budget.

Like the previous person said - could be a regular daycare too. If you look at the break down. 42000/12 months is 3500 for two kids a month. 3,500/2 is 1,750 per kid. That’s about $58/day per child. Now you have to account for the BUSINESS budget. Food, snacks, licensing, electricity, water, gas (in the building), fuel, the worker’s salary, equipment, maintenance, toys, cleaning supplies and so much more. That is a pretty understandable price.

As a veteran (US Marines) who also teaches history, I have said this. As an aside, teaching history through the lens of a veteran is far easier to help my students understand why all these wars happened and some aftermath issues, like how PTSD contributed to certain post-war events. @@erinyes3943 Thanks for asking! They did it for fun, and for money, and for local fame. When I was in the Marines, we’d do stupid things, too. We had a fight club, or would punch each other’s knuckles, drink too much, smash stuff with fists or foreheads, that kind of thing. The type of person who becomes a Marine is usually the same type of person who likes to push themselves and take on unnecessary challenges, and I would assume similar in the knights. This is a hard job, no one would choose it unless they were already inclined that way. So they train us and then just…leave us to wait? We get fidgety. We lift heavy things. Some start boxing. We put our efforts into something physical and sometimes dumb. While I’m disabled now, you can still see this mentality on my channel with some of my food videos. I have one where I’m eating expired protein bars. They stink but I don’t hesitate to take big bites. I even vomited a little. But to me this is fun. A recent video I’m eating spicy noodles that weren’t spicy enough so I drenched them in hot sauce. Despite my grandmother being in the Nazi party, her grandparents had Jews hiding under their farm, and her aunt and uncle had a bakery in town that they used to give the soldiers food made with the least amount of ingredients and save the extras to give to people that they were helping to get out of the country. Apparently everybody in the family helped, but it was the kids that had to be the most involved in order for it to work. My Nana said she was questioned frequently about her grandparents. She said she had to lie, but that she was proud too, because she helped a woman give birth in her barn when she was 16 and she got to know in her heart that that woman would be free and safe with her newborn baby. My Nana is the kind of person that died, never wanting any recognition for these things, but in death, I know she deserves to be known as a woman who risk her life whose family risked their whole lives, and the lives of their children to save hundreds they are not Nazis, but they are the true heart of the German people. Dependable, practical and kind natured to a fault. Childcare in Australia is expensive. As in many mothers dont go back to work because the salary is barely worth it after the childcare cost until they get to school. 21k per child a year, say they work 5 days a week and work 40 weeks of the year thats 200 days of childcare, @$100 a day. The average cost in my city is $105.29 per day. That couple is delusional though if they think a combined income of 500k is average. 3 holidays a year alone is above average. Also 40% tax. Holy hell that tax rate is scary. For how little people in the USA get for their tax dollars via social security and health care that is insane. I think I pay around 12k on 100k salary here in Australia. Even at 250k my tax would be less than 60k total. If the US taxes people that much you should have universal healthcare, free education and college and a really good social security unemployment benefits.

Then, I realized that most countries don't have this system where parents pay a huge chunk of the money they make working to the people who watch their kids while they work, leading to cases of poor families struggling to figure out how to afford a job. Now, I'm just sad for my country.

If people had to pay that kind of money to have a child, nobody could afford to have children. The reality is that non-rich people just leave their kids alone, or with family or friends. One time, due to poor planning/reading on my part, I accidentally booked a night at a campsite instead of a hotel the night before an interview. I flew in well after dark and didn't realize I'd screwed up until my Uber was pulling up to the campground. My driver agreed something was weird and hung around while I investigated and tried to find a key/room/anything. Then, he waited while I found a nearby hotel and drove me there instead, just because he didn't want me to have to wait outside in the middle of the night in winter for another car. And *that's* how I found out that Uber won't let you tip more than 100% of your original fare. F*ck those restrictions.

@@VelaiciaCreator I mean, is it truly "nearly" a full yearly income if the "full-time" nanny is being paid that much? Also, you're really only as well off as you have liquid assets. If you make a lot a money but are constantly spending as much or more than that as fast as you can make it, you're living beyond your means. Constant debt is still constant debt even if you make enough to where if you were more restrained with your finances you'd be well off. By my estimation, they're still deluded, but in-so-far that they don't make enough money to be paying a full-time worker's salary and vacationing and all that. This is why the middle class is often said to be a dying concept, since the cost of living ends up outstripping increases in wage bracket for most households. For an extreme example, many lottery winners end up broke and destitute because they spend so much money so quickly that they end up placing themselves into an unsustainable continued cost situation.

Unfortunately, getting the ideas out takes nothing, putting them into actuality (calling caterers, booking a venue, etc), take a lot of time and work and all the planning traditionally falls on the bride. Those things typically need to be done during normal business hours, when most people are working. You can't just call a florist outside of their business hours and set up an appointment outside of business hours to look through their portfolio and see what they can do is closest to what you want. It's a lot of unnecessary pomp, but most want a nice wedding at least, some want really extravagant ones and that does take actual work, time and it's exhausting. Typically, the groom doesn't really care what the wedding is like as long as it's memorable and is with his new wife and with family and friends around, so, again, the planning falls to the bride. All the groom has to worry about is getting his crew fitted with tuxes or suits to match the color theme. Sometimes he might have to worry about the rehearsal supper, though usually the groom's mom plans that. Though she's an idiot for quitting her job for planning a wedding she can't afford without it. If her job isn't flexible enough to afford her a day off here and there for her planning, you know, like using vacation days (which she should have been holding onto for this anyway), then she shouldn't be gunning for a huge wedding. Just book an officiary and a place. Screw decorations, screw flowers, screw big dresses, just find something nice off the rack, screw an after ceremony dinner and dance. Maybe after work hours grab the maid of honor and make a trip to a craft store for some artificial flowers for your bouquet and maybe something you could easily make into light decorations to hang on the ends of the chair rows. It wouldn't be flashy or visually as memorable, but what should matter and be memorable in the first place is the two of you joining your lives together.

I remember hearing somewhere that women are better equipped at dealing with pain and discomfort, as a biological thing for dealing with childbirth. It's not that women don't feel it as much as men, it's that they can think about other things easier while in pain. But then different people have different sensitivities. The childbirth thing applies to hormones released during childbirth that stop you from passing out from the pain of another entity clawing its way out of a sensitive part of your anatomy. @@darkdragoness5 It may depend more on the person and culture rather than hormones. When I was in the Marines, we were discouraged from talking about being in pain. However, some Marines absolutely complained as a way to get out of work or something. I’m female and live with chronic pain, including chronic migraines so bad I’m vomiting at work…but some female coworkers have stomach ache and call in sick. Another factor with periods especially is that some people have larger cysts on their ovaries, and this can press on nerves differently, causing even more pain than normal. I used to deal with this and literally couldn’t even breathe during pain spikes, or pull myself out of the fetal position. Im on hormonal birth control to stop this. Yet, I also went through a 15km “hump” ((gear-laden hike)) with 45kg in my pack and a broken foot, kept up with the other Marines while some non-injured people “fell out” ((dropped behind the group)). So I guess there are lots of factors.

@@darkdragoness5 May I ask what the percentage is of women workers, or the type of job? I’m studying Psychology so I think about these environmental factors. For example, being a female Marine, you don’t want to show weakness because some male Marines already assume you’re weak ((they don’t know we did the same training…)) So you end up toughing it out more because you’re constantly having to fight against the “weak woman” stereotype. But if you’re in a field where there are more women, you may notice more when men take time off just because they’re more rare. So two totally different ratios, and we end up with a similar feeling for different reasons. I love studying people and also it’s so hard to study people haha

It's one of the ways meat is graded - how much bone per the amount of meat. That's why "meat chickens" are different breeds than "egg chickens", and why "dairy cattle" aren't considered "beef cattle". See on the complete opposite end, I have fast periods (typically 3 but sometimes 4 days rather than 6 or 7 days) and relatively painless cramps, but even still it hurts. Unlike most other pain I never "got used to it". I thought I would get used to it because it makes logical sense that something happening over and over again would get less painful each time so it always made me mad that even my light period cramps didn't suddenly vanish, which js why I hated the argument of "getting used to it"... Once me and my friend had to help carry out my other friend to the nurse because she had a cramp so bad she couldn't walk and she sat with tears streaming down her face, like deadly silent. It wasn't fun. I feel bad knowing I don't share that experience, but also grateful I got a longer straw. My teacher asked if everything was alright when we got back and when we told him he looked concerned as well saying his daughter had those problems too. It wasn't fun. Most periods aren't just something people can handle, and holy crap yours sound horrible, I send my condolences.

Honestly the funniest thing about the “pink panther” convo is that lions actually ARE panthers. Panthers as an individual species aren’t a thing, it’s a genus(?) called Panthera that includes many big cats, including Lions. Since the “Pink Panther” is obviously a funny play on the Black panther, which is the name for any melanistic cat in Panthera, it is entirely possible that the pink panther is in fact a type of lion.

You're absolutely right for bringing up Falcon when that person asked about black superheroes. In their defense, a lot of people used to call him 'Black Falcon' up until at least the Bronze Age, to the point that some fans believed he had dropped the 'Black' from his name when he appeared in the MCU, but in fact that has actually never been his name ever. This is even addressed in his Disney+ show. The Black in Black Panther is redundant but powerful, but it might not have been what they meant, considering there was the Black Adam (who's NOT a superhero) movie coming up, Black Lightning, Black Vulcan from Superfriends (with that quotable "White Fish" line in Harvey Birdman) Black Racer, Blackwing, The Black Spider and Black Eagle who are all PoC. They're lesser known of course but might have contributed to the misunderstanding about having "black" in the name.

This is not even that many names from the full list and I saw fewer names than this that even had "Black" or something indicating the colour in the list. Sure, Darkwing could be conflated as such, but in the comic the Darkwing we first saw was white and his sidekick was black, so the name did not come from his skin. I get that most normies don't really know about how MANY black superheroes there are, but it's literally a google search away. I'm probably going to be reading a bunch of these one day if I have time.

I guess black panther kinda works because it's also a reference to the animal his costume is based on. However, at the same time, a black panther is really just a dark-furred leopard or jaguar, so...yeah.

One time I was going crazy looking for my glasses. Could not find them. My husband was just laughing at me. I was furious and called him an asshole for not helping me look for them. He walked up to me and pushed them off my head and they plopped down onto the bridge of my nose. He then said "will these ones do til you find the other ones?" Ratbag. 🤣 (We're still married. 22 years now. And I stopped putting my glasses on top of my head.)

Right along with "the youth invading Normandy", in my area it went from "I hope my kids never have to work in a coal mine " to"my grandparents raised our families on coal, bring back coal jobs!" Actually, the grandparents fight against fascism too. I'm seeing a disturbing pattern

I remember learning english as a kid and once I was thinking and I formulated a sentence with the singular they. I thought "funny how "they" is also used in the singular" and that was it. I only found out what non binary was years later.
@heatherduke7703
@heatherduke7703 2 жыл бұрын
Except that ‘they’ is never used to refer to a specific singular person, only to a generic where the gender is unknown. I was in a situation where we were trying to use “they” as a singular replacement referring to a specific individual and it created a lot of confusion. It’s not how the language works. If I’m referring to a person who doesn’t want to use gendered terms, I’ll just use their name as much as possible

Related to the Eye of Sauron thing when I worked at Convergys they promoted a coworker to manager and we were happy for him until he turned out to be a really shitty boss. I started calling him Quisling and not long after everyone started calling him that. Years after I left the company I ran into someone and told them about this and they informed me that not only did Quisling still work there but he loved the nick name and never picked up on the origins of the name or the negative association the name has since WWII.
