As a German and a person who studied history, I'm still shocked and concerned how many hardcore Nazis lived a normal life after the war whilst they denied so many people the same.
@Arkylie2 жыл бұрын
One of the stories I'd like to write was prompted when my mom pointed out that men who were in a gang violating women a few decades ago were nowadays just seemingly normal grandpas and you wouldn't even think about it if you met them. I wondered about the drama in befriending a person who seems normal but turns out to be the one who hurt you decades ago.

I think a good book if you wanna get an even closer perspective is “Ordinary Men” by Christopher Browning and how people who have done awful things were quite literally just average people before and pretty much the same afterward to some extent. Hence the name.
@girl12132 жыл бұрын
It's not a defense, but I do wonder how "normal" they actually lived. People around them have had to have known. It's not like the world kept quiet about it when the number and weight of crimes was found out. I can't see anyone truly living normally with that kind of baggage over their heads no matter how much they ignore it. I guess it's cause I am of German AND Poland decent and relatives on both sides of my family escaped Nazi regime for not supporting the rule using the Underground. According to them, no way can any Nazi live normally after the war because when you force others to live a lie, you end up lying to yourself and living one too.

@@girl1213 in Germany a lot of people who were born after the war did and do not know what their parents and grandparents did during it. Most don't think they were part of the "bad bunch" but reluctant followers at most. That is statistically not possible. Childcare in Australia is expensive. The average cost in my city is $105.29 per day. That couple is delusional though if they think a combined income of 500k is average. 3 holidays a year alone is above average. Also 40% tax. Holy hell that tax rate is scary. For how little people in the USA get for their tax dollars via social security and health care that is insane. I think I pay around 12k on 100k salary here in Australia. Even at 250k my tax would be less than 60k total. If the US taxes people that much you should have universal healthcare, free education and college and a really good social security unemployment benefits.

Constant debt is still constant debt even if you make enough to where if you were more restrained with your finances you'd be well off. By my estimation, they're still deluded, but in-so-far that they don't make enough money to be paying a full-time worker's salary and vacationing and all that. This is why the middle class is often said to be a dying concept, since the cost of living ends up outstripping increases in wage bracket for most households. Unfortunately, getting the ideas out takes nothing, putting them into actuality (calling caterers, booking a venue, etc), take a lot of time and work and all the planning traditionally falls on the bride. Those things typically need to be done during normal business hours, when most people are working. You can't just call a florist outside of their business hours and set up an appointment outside of business hours to look through their portfolio and see what they can do is closest to what you want. It's a lot of unnecessary pomp, but most want a nice wedding at least, some want really extravagant ones and that does take actual work, time and it's exhausting. Typically, the groom doesn't really care what the wedding is like as long as it's memorable and is with his new wife and with family and friends around, so, again, the planning falls to the bride. All the groom has to worry about is getting his crew fitted with tuxes or suits to match the color theme. Sometimes he might have to worry about the rehearsal supper, though usually the groom's mom plans that. Though she's an idiot for quitting her job for planning a wedding she can't afford without it. If her job isn't flexible enough to afford her a day off here and there for her planning, you know, like using vacation days (which she should have been holding onto for this anyway), then she shouldn't be gunning for a huge wedding. Just book an officiary and a place. Screw decorations, screw flowers, screw big dresses, just find something nice off the rack, screw an after ceremony dinner and dance. Maybe after work hours grab the maid of honor and make a trip to a craft store for some artificial flowers for your bouquet and maybe something you could easily make into light decorations to hang on the ends of the chair rows. It wouldn't be flashy or visually as memorable, but what should matter and be memorable in the first place is the two of you joining your lives together.

I remember hearing somewhere that women are better equipped at dealing with pain and discomfort, as a biological thing for dealing with childbirth. It's not that women don't feel it as much as men, it's that they can think about other things easier while in pain. But then different people have different sensitivities. I'm pretty sure that the man who thinks that periods shouldn't hurt would probably be incapacitated if part of his body shredded itself, though considering how dense he is, maybe not.
@hailbones6662 жыл бұрын
The childbirth thing applies to hormones released during childbirth that stop you from passing out from the pain of another entity clawing its way out of a sensitive part of your anatomy. It doesn’t apply to everything and it isn’t about getting your mind off pain. If a person breaks a bone, you can’t just “la la la think about something else” the pain away.
@darkdragoness52 жыл бұрын
@@hailbones666 Thank you. I know my knowledge was vague, and mostly brought up in a rant about the guy who thought periods don't hurt. I do love to learn new things, so thank you for your response.
@hailbones6662 жыл бұрын
@@darkdragoness5 It may depend more on the person and culture rather than hormones. When I was in the Marines, we were discouraged from talking about being in pain. However, some Marines absolutely complained as a way to get out of work or something. I’m female and live with chronic pain, including chronic migraines so bad I’m vomiting at work…but some female coworkers have stomach ache and call in sick. Another factor with periods especially is that some people have larger cysts on their ovaries, and this can press on nerves differently, causing even more pain than normal. I used to deal with this and literally couldn’t even breathe during pain spikes, or pull myself out of the fetal position. Im on hormonal birth control to stop this. Yet, I also went through a 15km “hump” ((gear-laden hike)) with 45kg in my pack and a broken foot, kept up with the other Marines while some non-injured people “fell out” ((dropped behind the group)). So I guess there are lots of factors.
@darkdragoness52 жыл бұрын
@@hailbones666 Oh definitely it's influenced a lot by the type of person experiencing the pain and it's not really like I'm an expert on this. I just notice that at work women were more likely to continue working while in pain while men called in sick. They still complained about it, some people a lot. It's not really an accurate representation, just something I heard and seen. (Also one time my grandma had a fall, and she decided to get up and drive 10 minutes to the hospital)
@hailbones6662 жыл бұрын
@@darkdragoness5 May I ask what the percentage is of women workers, or the type of job? I’m studying Psychology so I think about these environmental factors. For example, being a female Marine, you don’t want to show weakness because some male Marines already assume you’re weak ((they don’t know we did the same training…)) So you end up toughing it out more because you’re constantly having to fight against the “weak woman” stereotype. But if you’re in a field where there are more women, you may notice more when men take time off just because they’re more rare. So two totally different ratios, and we end up with a similar feeling for different reasons. I love studying people and also it’s so hard to study people haha

The one about manning up about periods is pretty similar to how people with chronic pain are treated. People who never experienced either seem to not understand how pain can come back and be just as bad if not worse. Like, some days I can walk mostly fine and other days I will limp with a cane. This can also be the same day.

As an Italian American I think I can explain the mozzarella thing. It’s either regional, or a version of the word no longer used in modern Italy. More specifically, to the best of my understanding, "Jersey Italian" tends to resemble *Southern* Italian dialects from several generations ago, before "standard" (i.e., standardized *Tuscan*) Italian became dominant throughout the peninsula, because Italian immigrants to the US came primarily from the poorer South rather than the (relatively speaking) more prosperous North.

Depends on other things than height. Skinny tall guys are mostly bone. Even if they have decent musculature, there's a higher bone content in the carcass. It's one of the ways meat is graded - how much bone per the amount of meat. That's why "meat chickens" are different breeds than "egg chickens", and why "dairy cattle" aren't considered "beef cattle". Very different genes give very different body types even if the size is the same. And that's not something I ever expected to use in butchering humans, but the other, other white meat is valid.

I literally fainted in class on the third day of high school because of the pain and proceeded to spend every fourth Wednesday home from school with my heating pad. See on the complete opposite end, I have fast periods (typically 3 but sometimes 4 days rather than 6 or 7 days) and relatively painless cramps, but even still it hurts. Unlike most other pain I never "got used to it". I thought I would get used to it because it makes logical sense that something happening over and over again would get less painful each time so it always made me mad that even my light period cramps didn't suddenly vanish, which js why I hated the argument of "getting used to it"... Once me and my friend had to help carry out my other friend to the nurse because she had a cramp so bad she couldn't walk and she sat with tears streaming down her face, like deadly silent. It wasn't fun. I feel bad knowing I don't share that experience, but also grateful I got a longer straw. My teacher asked if everything was alright when we got back and when we told him he looked concerned as well saying his daughter had those problems too. It wasn't fun. Most periods aren't just something people can handle, and holy crap yours sound horrible, I send my condolences.

It's illegal if they don't know you're doing it. If they know you put blood in the food and decide to eat it anyway it's not illegal because they consented. At least in the US. On a related note, cannibalism is also technically legal if the everyone involved consents.

It's also a fail of basic Informed Consent. If you know a crucial fact that would make someone reevaluate whether to do the thing, and you withhold that fact so that they do the thing regardless, that's... that pretty much makes you a horrible person. Applies to "would they have sex with me if they knew X?" and "would they eat this if they knew Y?" It doesn't matter if *you* don't think it's a big deal -- if it's something that the average person would at least have to stop and think about, then there's a moral imperative to be honest about it. "I dropped the food on the floor, but brushed it off and he'll never know" is bad enough; "I ran out of chicken so I added pork, even though I know he's Jewish/Muslim" is horrible; "I added my own bodily fluids to this meal for my own effed-up reasons" is horrific and this woman should go single for the rest of her life because she lacks the ability to care about her partner's rights and free will.

Honestly the funniest thing about the “pink panther” convo is that lions actually ARE panthers. Panthers as an individual species aren’t a thing, it’s a genus(?) called Panthera that includes many big cats, including Lions. Since the “Pink Panther” is obviously a funny play on the Black panther, which is the name for any melanistic cat in Panthera, it is entirely possible that the pink panther is in fact a type of lion.

You're absolutely right for bringing up Falcon when that person asked about black superheroes. In their defense, a lot of people used to call him 'Black Falcon' up until at least the Bronze Age, to the point that some fans believed he had dropped the 'Black' from his name when he appeared in the MCU, but in fact that has actually never been his name ever. This is even addressed in his Disney+ show. The Black in Black Panther is redundant but powerful, but it might not have been what they meant, considering there was the Black Adam (who's NOT a superhero) movie coming up, Black Lightning, Black Vulcan from Superfriends (with that quotable "White Fish" line in Harvey Birdman) Black Racer, Blackwing, The Black Spider and Black Eagle who are all PoC. They're lesser known of course but might have contributed to the misunderstanding about having "black" in the name.

Then we have Spawn, Cloak, Falcon(obviously), Bulletproof, Darkwing1 and 2(his sidekick successor), Ironheart, Green Lantern, Blade(though he's kinda iffy), Spider-Man(Miles), Warmachine, Superman on a variety of different Earths, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Cyborg, Captain Marvel, Batwing 1 and 2, Aqualad, and sure, lets throw in Taranee Cook from W.I.T.C.H. because she cool. This is not even that many names from the full list and I saw fewer names than this that even had "Black" or something indicating the colour in the list. Sure, Darkwing could be conflated as such, but in the comic the Darkwing we first saw was white and his sidekick was black, so the name did not come from his skin. I get that most normies don't really know about how MANY black superheroes there are, but it's literally a google search away. I'm probably going to be reading a bunch of these one day if I have time.
