Fun fact! Horses can and do eat meat. Not regularly or effectively enough to be listed as omnivores, but very VERY technically... They are. Their bodies don't reject it and they get enough out of it to want it. Though most of the instances I've seen and heard about have been with dried meats, so it might be mostly the salt that they're after. But there have also been stories of them eating carrion. Those stories tend to come out of deserts and severe droughts. Also! As far as anyone knows, they're immune to prion diseases, so there's no risk of Mad Cow-like issues. Yet, there ARE stories about horses who eat a lot of meat (relatively) becoming more aggressive and occasionally developing a preference for it, but their breath gets BAD because the enzymes in horse saliva aren't made for handling the bacteria in meat. It's thought that a circumstance like that was the inspiration for one of Hercules's trials. Bonus! Just imagine the nightmare fuel of horses so accustomed to meat that they actually start hunting.
