I was a senior at Hollywood High School in '76 , 'Amos' was just a few short blocks west of campus. Often, myself and a girlfriend, and or pals walked down Sunset towards Amos. He was almost a fixture there for a long, long, time - often just passing out cookies to people walking by on the sidewalk and always decked out in white with accompanying white hat. A correction though. 'Amos' was NOT located in east Hollywood, it was on the NE corner of Formosa and Sunset Blvd - west of La Brea. WEST HOLLYWOOD is more like it.

Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies were the jam, We used to go to his store, snap up a few bags, then drive up Canon Dr. above Beverly Hills and get high in the wee hours. Thank you "Famous" Wally Amos and R I Power

I live in Colorado and back in the day a trip to the Sunset store was a requirement for any trip to LA. I still have the tins that were full of those little cookies. Also - and I am showing my age here - lunch at the Marie Callendar’s on Wilshire. If I remember correctly you could smell the Tar Pits from the restaurant’s parking lot…

Yeah, Callenders was right on Curson and Wilshire and it was okay I (subjectively) suppose. If I were down that-a-way, Dupars on Wishire in the miracle mile was THE place. Both good though Marie had very, very, good ham sandwiches and their pies were always good, though again, I prefered Four N 20. Shame all these great places no longer exist. There's still the The Apple Pan which has been there since the late 1940's. Time to make a visit before it, too disappears.

I remember going to his store before it went viral. (I didn't consider the area seedy, but I was a teenager.) The store used to be a restaurant called "House of Pies" sort of a Marie Calendars.
