Burning the kid's cards is such a fucked up thing to do. My mom would sometimes break or throw away my toys when we had a disagreement. What I learned from it was to avoid conflict at all cost... We've made a table top pinball machine, a few different marble runs (she calls them roller coasters), pneumatic hands, and some toy cars that move differently from each other. What’s extra sad about the argument at 26:06 is that multiple personality disorder which is medically known as dissociative identity disorder (DID) is an extreme coping mechanism spawned from early childhood trauma. The normalisation of gay isn't the only thing causing kids to "become" gay, seeing other people similar to yourself that you relate to and realising that you might have the same orientation is a big part of growing up. This is not just around sexuality, it is how you develop your interests throughout your life. Being able to relate to people like yourself is one of the greatest gifts of the internet, giving us all access to people that understand how we feel and where we come from.

About the rabies kid: If the body part that was bitten is far away from the brain (the organ that is attacked by rabies mainly) rabies slowly moves up to the brain with no symptoms. If the kid was bitten on the leg (wich is possible, as the insane parent said cats and dogs), the kid is probably infected and will have symptoms in the close future. Rabies can be symptomless for half a decade in cases like this. Some peopls are just insane. @@zamonolita in a techincal sense: there are some parazites that turn their victims into zombies. Rabies only ruins them, and there is no repair if something is damaged by it. @thesadtoast 3 жыл бұрын
@@sinifexxephinis4310 yes, but if it reaches the brain before the coma, the damage starts and it's almost impossible to fix that. I say almost, because even with the coma, minimal damage can happen and it might can be fixed after, so there is some kind of healing after all, but without medical help, it's sadly not enough. A 4 is extremely hard to get but is easier is some depending on how lenient your teacher is. A 4 is I understand this perfectly and could teach the class and equates to an A+. Punishing your kid for getting all 3s is horrible. And if it works like how my state does it, this kid is in elementary school.

What I learned from both The Click and One Topic: - Family isn't always blood, and blood doesn't always equal family - An explanation tho the cliche phrase "it gets better". Whenever people told me that i always got outraged. I won't magically wake up without severe chronic depression, and life can get horrible in an instant, but it's less likely to happen the other way around. To have a logical reason to why it gets better definitely stoped me from doing things very much incompatible with the alive thing. - That I'm non binary, and also encouraged me to figure myself out, come to terms with who i am (i realized just how bisexual I was, and it didn't even register for so long it's ridiculous) - It's ok to tell people they are hurting you. - Ask for help to people who will help you. Not everyone will, but that just means you gotta look somewhere else for it - Sometimes people who actually care and love us can be really toxic at times. - It's ok to be mad, it's ok to be an asshole sometimes, you don't owe no one anything. Obviously, common decency it's a thing, but it shouldn't be an excuse to let yourself get stomped over. - There isn't so little time. It's been drilled into my brain how short life will be, and it made me misserable. If I've been suffering for so long, what's the point of trying to see if something better lies ahead, there was so little "ahead" i drowned myself in my family's expectations. - Don't take social media seriously, it's not a personal attack, it's not for you. Calm down. - You should not hold yourself to unrealistic expectations. Even when you do reach them , it might still feel empty. It hurts more when you know you should be proud of yourself but just aren't. (My personal experience/rant: I passed a difficult course against all odds, and the moment i realized it meant nothing was when a lovely teacher i had saw me looking at my grades like if it was blank paper. He congratulated me and asked very nicely if I was finally proud of myself after doing the imposible, after defeating this giant. I without even needing to think i answered "No". I have never seen someone so happy lose that light in their eyes so quickly. There just wasn't a culminating moment, a breath after a long race. That day came like any other, and went just as painfully slow. Even worse was having to lie to my parents. To lie through my teeth: "I am proud of what I've archived". It really messes up with your brain) - Also I'm a furry (i think??) But that's a little less important. A little personal advice for those people struggling with mental health: things don't really need a meaning to be beautiful. Life doesn't have "meaning" per se, but it doesn't really matter. That attitude can change your situation a lot. I still remember the day I told my little evil trauma spawn (Which existence is another fun story for another fun day) that that was enough. That i was sick of it, that i wanted to change. This is my head, my mind, my body and my life, and no one other than me has any say in it. You can live your life day to day. It can be hard to think about the future, can be unbearable to feel your life so out of control by all the factors in your life you don't know yet. You can't really do an operation without all the numbers and get an accurate response. So make the equation smaller. More manageable. I may not be happy now. I may still be severely depressed. I may always be. But that ain't stoping me from figuring it out.

Hope you will get better and better. If you can, find a therapist to help you. I have a friend with similar issues (non binary, bi, with a completely unsupportive family, severely depressed, etc) and seeing a therapist behind their parents back really helped them. They are now two years in the process and got better enough to be out of meds now. Things are never perfect but as you put yourself, they can become better. If your *6-year-old CHILD* has "acne", it's more likely an allergic reaction to something and you should be taking this more seriously. For the meme at 15:52 - when I started wearing crop tops as a plus size female person (I'm genderqueer, she/they pronouns, moving on), my mom looked at me and she didn't say anything for a second and I was worried about it, right, because everybody is worried about what their mom thinks when they're 15 or 17 or so. My mom looks at me and she says "I wish I had been brave enough to wear what you wear now when I was your age. I'm really proud of you." And I think about that a lot. I wear crop tops almost every day now. No matter what you look like and what you wear, a good parent is supportive. The one about the grandma wanting grandkids kinda hit me, my grandma once started talking to me about how "I should enjoy my life now, because when I have kids, I'm gonna have sleepless nights and won't be able to get much done for myself", I told her (politely) that I don't want kids, and she started yelling at me in the car that "Children are a gift from God, and they are the most amazing little bundles of joy" and how I "shouldn't dare to say such a thing ever again". I don't remember how many of them I was asked to pinpoint, but I remember I failed to point only on Andorra, a small country barely visible on the print of that map, and teacher chewed me for it in front of everyone for couple of minutes, lowering the grade. It hit my confidence, but I remember walking to my sit just fine, grade was still pretty decent. Actual blow happened when the next kid, with best grades in class, was tasked to show some countries as well and they were, I clearly remember, France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Great Britain. After they were pointed, teacher made a snarky comment on how bad I am and how I should learn geography from that ace kid. That open display of bias just immediately killed all my interest in class. He used to give out points for speaking in class and would constantly bring up that I wasn't very talkative, insinuated that I was antisocial and even said I should be a mechanic (as if that's an insult) IN FRONT OF THE CLASS. They laughed ofc. This continued even after my family told him I'm autistic and need more time to process the information. Even with a tutor and the amount of revision I did, I still got a measly E but at least I did excellent in the other three subjects :) I'll never have to see that miserable git again

Needle Phobia: Every time I have to give blood for a blood test, I pass out. I have begun telling the people taking my blood to lay me down when they stick me. They ask why and I tell them I pass out. Fortunately, they believe me and lay me back in the cardiac patient chair to draw my blood, letting my look in the other direction at a Where's Waldo poster to keep my mind occupied. And, even though I'm not looking, I pass out. But I am safe and they are pre-warned. In my case it is not a fear of needles (I used to be a nurse). It is very low blood pressure. It always freaks doctors out to see my nearly pass out when they lay me down on the exam table, where other people might get dizzy standing up. I'm backwards. My point is to ask for the ability to lie down so you can be safe when you pass out.
@kiralonely
@kiralonely 3 жыл бұрын
I sometimes have spouts of certain things making my blood pressure drop suddenly and almost making me pass out. I got my blood taken recently and got to the point my ears were ringing and I couldn't see great. The worst I ever had was when I got my first testosterone injection, I got so bad, I was sitting on the counter so my mom could help jab me, and I couldn't even get down for like a good 10 minutes because I would've just not been able to stand. I sat there with my hair over my face, panting heavily because I couldn't breathe, but I was cold and sweating profusely, and I basically had such tunnel vision that I couldn't see at all at one point and my ears rang so bad my mom had been trying to talk to me and I had to mumble in between panting that I couldn't hear anything and that I was sorry. Like, I literally was barely getting words out, it was like "I can't...hear...what you're...saying...sorry" kinda stuff with good 5 second pauses on the ellipsis. My face supposedly was ghost white and my lips were the same shade as the rest of my face, which, I'm a very pale person, like, my redheaded step father and I are like at least the same level of paleness, and I'm not a redhead, so me being paler than my natural complexion in general is slightly scary. My mom said she was so scared when she saw me with my head down, and moved my hair enough to see how pale I was and stuff, and ended up helping with getting a wet wash cloth and fanning me to help with the sweating and panting. I've thankfully never had it as bad as that one time, but I've come to recognize the symptoms since then. I was just feeling nauseous for some reason that day and it just peaked when I got my blood taken and I had to tell her I needed to stay seated a second cause I was suddenly not feeling great and she helped fan me, which helped a lot. Only lasted a minute or two, but was still a little startling, since I get my blood taken fairly often and that's the first time I got low blood pressure from it. Recently found out that it's actually a whole like common thing, which is interesting. I also don't have a fear of needles, at all really, I only have issue with seeing needles in my own skin or seeking things piercing skin and like staying there or incisions. It's funny, watching doctor shows or whatever, I can't watch the initial incision, but am not at all queasy watching parts of the operation or cameras into people's bodies or whatever. It's just that slice makes me feel queasy. Egh. Just interesting how even people who don't have an issue with it can have sudden spouts of it if they're having like an off day or something and need a moment or possibly pass out even if they haven't in the past. And like you said, don't be afraid to tell your phlebotomist or a nurse that you need a moment, or that you might not be feeling great, they've seen it all and should be understanding enough to take you seriously.

Something similar happened with my mother when I came out to her as non-binary. She was shocked at first, which is understandable, considering I used to be her only daughter. But, after taking about an hour or two to gather her thoughts, she said that as long as she could still call me by the name she gave me at birth (it's a gender-neutral name, so I'm ok with that), she would support me. She was the first person I told, because, at that point in my life, she was the only one I trusted with that sort of information. She let me wear more masculine clothes, she let me get my hair cut short, and she might not have said anything about it, but I knew that she would be there and ready to kick some @ss at the slightest mention of being bullied because of it, not in an embarrassing way (she promised she wouldn't go all out Karen on anyone), but more in a caring way (of course, it would take her a little bit to get there, but that would also give me a chance to deal with the situation on my own and prepare me for the real world, because that's also a parents' job, on top of protecting and caring for their child). My father, however, has always been a bit of a jerk. I'm not ashamed to admit that he was an alcoholic, probably still is, my mother left him after she had finally realised that he was being toxic, manipulative, and abusive, after giving birth to me and getting pregnant with my brother 2 years later. I was around 1 and a half. I only know this because my mother told me the story. After taking several parenting classes, going through multiple different therapies, and about a dozen other things, about 2 years later, mum finally trusted him enough to let me and my brother go over to his place without her being there. He no longer drinks around me or my brother, but he's still somewhat manipulative and toxic. He's not abusive physically (at least not that I've seen) anymore, more mentally draining. But he IS doing his best. He only has to pay child support. Nothing else. We don't live with him most of the time, because he lives 2-3 hours away, depending on weather and traffic. We only see him about once every 1-2 months, and honestly, I'm ok with that. I haven't told him I'm going by they/them, and I don't plan to. I don't care if he uses the wrong pronouns for me, because he doesn't know. If he doesn't know, he assumes i'm still going by she/her. I'm ok with that. I'd rather he called me "she" than have to have that awkward and potentially dangerous conversation with him. Mum doesn't force us to go to our fathers' house. She's ok with it if we stay at home with her instead. Neither me nor my brother have done that (yet), but we know the option is always there. She will also come and get us if we feel unsafe with him. She doesn't give a flying f@wk if the drive is 1-2 hours long, she will come and get us if we ask her to. Edit: I just realised that you made this comment about a year ago. I apologise.

From my experience, and I have as much experience as anyone (i.e. I have parents and have 5 children), children need both positive AND negative reinforcement. Example, my oldest daughter is 16 and obsessed with anime. When she wont do her chores because she doesn't want to quit watching her shows I have a perfect right to tell quit being lazy and to do her chores, but I also have the responsibility to thank her (either verbally or through actions) when she does the chores without being told to. It has to be a balance, they have to be shown that their actions have consequences AND rewards.
@Everettalla
@Everettalla 2 жыл бұрын
@@arronjerden915 Yeah, Okay, but I’m a Minor. I should probably know how I and other people like me feel about these things, you might think that your daughter wants to keep watching anime to get out of doing chores or to ‘be lazy’, but in many cases tv and the internet is my- and many others- only mental coping mechanism. It’s probably why most teens stay in their rooms all the time. Art is very refreshing and it’s something to get attached to that isn’t a physical object. I’m not defending this lifestyle as it’s very weird and probably not healthy psychologically but maybe don’t mistreat your child… you know, if you were ever going to. I’m really just trying to tell people that fear-mongering isn’t good for children. Negative reinforcement is fine but it’s also far more hurtful to tell a kid that they are lazy and need to get up and do something because even though they seem more grown up they still aren’t fully mature. Psychology in teens in really interesting.

@arronjerden915 2 жыл бұрын
@@Everettalla I was a minor as well, I know what escapism is. For me it was books and video games. I also know the difference between procrastination and lazy. If I thought for a minute that she was watching anime to try to get out of doing chores then her access to them would be taken away until her chores were done. She is being lazy not because she did not do the chores yet but because she did not put forth an effort to keep track of time. She knows that she has a responsibility to help keep our house a clean as it can be kept with 5 children. Also teens don't just "seem more grown up" they are more grown up, maturity is mostly a matter of accepting that you are responsible for yourself and a lot of people are never fully mature in that sense. Age has little to do with it, I have known 2 preteens that were more mature than most adults I know but it was because of what they experienced and lived through not age that made them "grow up" and I would not wish anyone to have to go through what those kids did.

I’ve learned, by watching The Click’s videos, that it’s okay to be scared of things. That it’s okay to have phobias, and that it’s normal. I’ve also come to be a lot more comfortable with myself through the little speeches(if i can call them that?) that The Click does occasionally about deeper, more serious topics. And for this i am very, very grateful for their videos. Thank you

7:01 this one makes me really mad. Something as necessary as eating should never be associated with punishment, or anything negative. That’s how eating disorders happen. That’s how my eating disorder happened. She mentions the kid is already underweight too. If the kid clearly isn’t healthy, talk to their doctor, don’t do this bs. You’ll just make them eat less.

I was forces to eat some things at school age 7 to about 10. Ended with me having a massive phobia for alot of food. Even food I used to eat and like prior to school that were remotely associated with the stuff they forced me to eat. Today I'm almost 40 and have tried for almost 20 years to get rid of said phobia but I literally can't. The reactions are engraved so deep in my subconscious. So yeah, I fully agree with you and Clicks assessment of what happens. Not only ending up with eating disorders but social handicaps as well.

My fricking Dad was in the military for 23 years and he never made me or my sibling eat. The most we ever got was "Eat one more green and then you can be excused". Learned later that it was because his mom made him and his siblings eat everything. And I found out because my cousin offered me the rest of her lunch when she was full, and I was still hungry (something my sibling and I still do to this day at 19 and 16), my grandma came in and threw a fit to little 10 year old me and my 8 year old cousin

The "you didn't ask permission to download a new texting app" one, I don't even make my nine year old ask me permission to download apps. I do have a parent app to see what apps are downloaded if I need to, but she's shown excellent judgment and I told her that I trust her. That one really bugged me just because I had this conversation with my daughter a couple days ago. If you can't trust your kid with something as simple as choosing their own apps, maybe you're insecure about your parenting skills?

I have severe hemophobia (fear of blood in case someone thinks I typed something different 😅) and often get ridiculed for it or told that it straight up doesn’t exist. Having an escape option is something I learned to do as well (frequent “bathroom breaks” during certain parts of health or science class) but asking for the material beforehand is a great trick! Wish I had heard of that sooner! Anyway, awesome video! You’re super funny and I love watching these videos.
