Young children have been shown to care for their baby dolls by copying what their parents do to them/their siblings. Since a 9 month old is practically a living baby doll, if the child was hitting the infant for "no reason", it's because the child gets beaten as well.

No, that second story is actually worse. The parents are fundamentalist christians who think that their daughter is arrogant for wanting to get an education and not being a housewife. Thus, they want to force the daughter to go to some church in the middle of nowhere so she can have all the ambitions beat out of her. Those abusive pieces of garbage should be thrown in prison for child abuse. Parents need to be forced to understand that they don't own their children. Parents don't have a right to mould their children into what the parents want. If you want to make another person exist, without any input from them, you have no rights or privileges over them. Only responsibilities.

Right when I read just that part I was like no you do not leave a 4 year old and a 2 month old only on a car. Even if they are the most well behaved children you still don’t do that bc they could dye in the car especially the 2 month old. They might not get enough oxygen, water, or food while waiting for the parents. There are a lot of cases where children die or get injured while stuck in the back of the car. Something could possibly happen to you and the kids would be stuck there maybe forever or for however long their fragile life’s last. The story said both parents where there so one parent could’ve carried one kid or they could’ve had one of those double strollers

As someone who grew up in a Nazarene church, that girl better run. I’m still getting over all the snake-handling and tongues-speaking nonsense. I wasn’t allowed to dance, a la Footloose. The pastor told my mom to shun me when I came out as bi, but she refused. Pretty whack organization. Don’t recommend. Edit: Also, that swimming one just shows me that the parent 100% did not do any research into teaching children to swim. There are a bajillion free resources with specific steps. I taught swimming to people from ages 2 and up, including occasionally adults. There’s a really common pattern where kids can suddenly become very afraid of the water or are too nervous to be coordinated/confident in the water. I’ve seen it a lot between ages 4 and 8 (happened to me when I was six, also). They’re just starting to really understand personal risk, so it’s totally understandable that they’d nope out. Making them dread going to the pool because you’re fussing at them will only make them less likely to learn. Here’s my unsolicited tips for gently teaching swimming: -Create a routine. Take them to the pool weekly. There’s safety in routine. -If you’re not going to get an instructor, expose them to the water and just let them see you swimming. -Don’t yell at them or make it more stressful. -Don’t compare them to siblings or other family. I don’t care if all their cousins already know how to swim. Going to the pool is, and should be, fun. Their progress is their progress. They all learn to use the toilet and walk on their own timetable. This is no different. They’ll resent comparison. -If you can get them to sit on the side, give them the job of counting your laps and let them see how you swim. That will give them a rough idea about form and the different strokes. They should be confident in your swimming skill. They will also probably get bored sitting and could want to hop in themselves. This is good. -Let them pick out their own swimsuit and goggles. Get some dive toys. Put them all in a pool bag that belongs to the child. Kids like to have their own “gear” and feel very grown up when they get to make choices about it. -Don’t give them an iPad or other land toys at the pool. The pool is for swimming and the pool is the fun. Most kids, even the most reluctant ones, would rather experiment with swimming than sit quietly for an hour. You can be firm here: You can either come try to have fun in the water or you’re welcome to sit here and sulk. Let it truly be their choice. -Show them a kickboard or a pool noodle. Kids fucking love them. Having something to hang onto can go a long way. Work toward them just kicking around and then incorporate them putting their face in the water to blow bubbles. -When they’re comfortable enough to doggy paddle, show them all the fun kid things. Cannonballs. Can openers. Belly flop. Do flips in the water. Crawl along the bottom. Make some memories. Let them see you being silly. Jumping in is a great way to reassure them that they can be fully underwater without dying. -Don’t throw a frightened child in a pool. That will potentially make them afraid of water and will erode their trust in you. You are their safety, so don’t abuse their trust. Feel free to throw happy children who want to be thrown, however. -Introduce them to the lifeguard. The lifeguard can become a role model and something to help them feel safer. -If they’re truly terrified and didn’t have a major traumatic experience in water, they may just be going through a phase. It’s like being afraid of the dark. It can be caused by a lot of things, like feeling uneasy about a new baby in the family or seeing a scary movie about sharks. Them not learning quickly is no reflection on your parenting. -Check your expectations. Are you maybe a little unreasonably put out that they aren’t learning faster? Determine what’s really got to do with them and what has to do with you just being inconvenienced. This is a tough-love conversation I’ve had to have with many parents who get upset about their child learning slowly in my classes. -Getting an instructor is usually a worthwhile investment, especially for clingy children and especially if you’re concerned safety-wise about their ability to self-rescue (like if you live near water or have a pool). -Sometimes the kid just has trouble learning from their parent. Faced with stress, they just want to cling to their caregiver, which is totes natural. But, by creating a little distance and letting a third party teach, they may be more comfortable pushing themselves. Anywho, I’m passionate about swimming and don’t gripe at your kids about needing time to learn something. 🐟 🏊‍♀️

I had a Chaotic Good Idea. What if one can pretend to be a "Pray the Gay Away" camp but instead of converting gay kids into straight Christian kids, unbeknownst to the parents this program actually teaches them how to cope, function and learn about themselves as people within the LGBTQ circle so they can be well adjusted people, also the program teaches them to feign "straightness" to fool their parents until they're old enough to move out and away from their insane parents, all while collecting money from people who believe Gayness is something to be fixed but instead nurture their Gayness and help them develop into more well adjusted people with love, acceptance and guidance.

From my own experience as a child, that swimming one made me kinda angry. I remember around that same age, my twin and I were learning how to swim in our pool and had the little arm floaty things. I was sorta okay with putting my face to the water, but was still too scared to go under. I remember I suddenly felt hands on my shoulder/back and a sudden force as the person behind me decided to just PUSH me underwater completely with *no warning.* I panicked and freaked out and they had to get me outta the water cause I was scared and coughing cause I swallowed water. It didn't keep me from the water for very long, but that could've made me not want to get in the water anymore at all. All it did when I was calm enough to get in the water the next time was make it take even longer for me to get comfortable going under. Forcing people to face their fears doesn't make them suddenly not afraid anymore, especially with children. Forcing in a way that freaks them out even more can have the opposite effect.

I worked as a swimming instructor in my local swimming club, with my teams being in the age range that mother was talking about, having floaties and a floating belt is completely normal for children at that age. The one about the mom making her 5 year old swim because “this is Florida” was such a blast from the past. I’m from Florida and my dad basically did the same thing. After 5 or 6 he wouldn’t let me use floats/water wings, and would toss me into the deep end of the pool or into the ocean and tell me to kick. 5 years later he did the same thing to my little brother. It was terrifying and we hated it, but there was _some_ logic behind the thinly veiled child abuse. Swimming is a way of life in Florida. Floridians basically live at the beach and at the pool. Most people take their kids to the playground, Floridians take them to the pool. Even old people go swimming. So it really is important to teach your kids to swim as early as possible simply because they will inevitably be around water, and for their own safety need to know how to swim in the event that they fall in. That said…there are better ways to teach your kids to swim lol. My dad’s a psycho and always has been.

33:20 Fun Fact- there is a thing called middle child syndrome where basically the parents just ignore the middle kids. This is because they are not the first born so the parents already had all the "firsts" with the oldest and the kid is not special because the parents spend to much time caring for the youngest child (often ending up being over bearing) thus leaving the middle child alone.

20:27 I’m trans (ftm) and came out 9 months ago. My parents are accepting, but they do little things that hurt..and refuse to change when I confront them. Such as referring to me as “sister” (and claiming I said they could when I didn’t) and doing the same thing that parent did, basically using “our little girl gave us a reason to not die” as an excuse to misgender me, and call me selfish for how I came out.

Personally, I think parents should have to go through the similar process of adoptive parents; have a vetting process, ensure they’re financially capable of having a child, have the emotional capabilities to raise a child, have a check up every once in a while. I know it would be difficult to execute, but… I think parents should have standards for keeping a kid, even bio parents. And if a person was forcefully impregnated (you can fill in the blanks there) or got impregnated accidentally, they could get the care and medicine they need. 8:08 someone take those children from them. The kids are clearly not getting proper care, she is LEAVING A FOUR YEAR OLD AND NINE MONTH OLD ALONE.

We helped him through it and he's a better person for it. Look, being a good parent doesn't mean you have perfect kids. Kids can't be perfect. They are developing humans trying to figure out life. This has reminded me that I once had a prolonged conversation with a guy who, with a straight face, said that if he found out his kid was gonna have a disability - and for no other reason - he'd _force his wife to get an abortion._ I will point out that this was in a Catholic school but, like... how do you think about a situation like that and still not process that you need to get AT LEAST one other conscious human being on your side

I'm just glad that my parents are supportive of me and my sister growing up. When ever we want to collect a certain thing my mum would get it for us and even be part of it. Beanie babies, pokemon, even books. The thing is that my mum would mostly want to keep them in the original condition thinking they'll increase in value. My sister got a spice girl doll back in the 90s which my mum still has in its original packaging.

One of my Classmates parents are ani-vaxx and she litteraly went around and asked who would take her in in case they kick her out when she finaly gets vaccinated, which she's been wanting to do for a while. At least now she has like 6 people that will take her in if things get worse

I 100% agree with needing a licence to be a parent but then you'd get problems with people lying to get the licence and a whole slew of problems related to it.

Getting a parent license with no kids to stunt on the insane parents.
@caelycat

Not to mention there is no way to reasonably enforce it because unless you are going to hire people to shove birth control down womb-haver's throats, or force unlicensed individuals to get an abortion, you can't stop someone from getting pregnant. Even if you take the baby away at birth they become victims to the system which is abusive as hell and Foster Parents are licensed.
