The bank story sounds like a lawsuit in the making. I will never ever give personal information over the phone unless I was the one who initiated the call. And the way they were so incredibly aggressive about it is just insane.
@tobyk.4911Ай бұрын
"Your phone was switched off yesterday afternoon, therefore we cancelled your credit card account." - I would really not be happy 😮
@RyanthusarАй бұрын
If that happened here in Australia I would just go "I'm sorry, but I gave that information on signing up for my account, if there is a problem feel free to send me correspondence to my postal address on file. However I tell you now that if my account is cancelled I will be filing a formal complaint immediately with the Banking Ombudsman that my account was cancelled without reason. Now, I look forward to receiving that letter regarding any problems." then hang up. Believe me if the banking ombudsman gets enough complaints, which starts at complaint number one, they will immediately open a file up and start looking to check into the complaint and if the bank is being aggressive they will drop a fine on to them, that fine isnt a small fine either.

He did say a dozen years ago, and it could easily have been longer. 20 years ago phishing really didn’t exist. (It does sound like their bank had failed to address a regulatory issue.)
@Hammer1987Ай бұрын
@@russbell6418 Dozen doesn't leave much room for interpretation. It specifically means 12. And twelve years ago was 2012. Phishing became a thing in the mid 90s. In the early 2000s phishers started targeting payment processors and online stores causing the loss of billions of dollars throughout that decade, and ever since. So unless we assume OP grossly misrepresented how long ago this happened phishing was very much a thing for people to worry about at the time of this story.
@raxin932023 күн бұрын
Yep, any call from "The Bank" is phishy. So simply tell them you want an extension or, will call back - on the number listed on your physical card.
@RaphaelLeiteАй бұрын
here in Brazil banks can't call asking things like that. The government put commercials saying if someone calls asking that kind of details, it's a scam.
@sourisvoleur4854Ай бұрын
Agree on phishy phone calls. I refuse to give identifying info to people who call me. I only will give such info if *I* call *them*. But usually I'll go to their website and take care of it there.

Funny part regarding the first story is how, when fiber first came to our neighborhood, the two speeds offered were 100 and 1000. I don't do gaming, so, after having crappy 6 (yes 6) from crappy AT&T, I thought the 100 would be plenty, which it honestly was. Many months later as I checking over my fiber account online (which is paid automatically), I was startled to see that while I was still paying the same amount, the bill was showing 300 speed. Turns out that the local power co. who provides our fiber had increased the speed free of charge! I however, was still only getting the 100. It was finally found that my router was throttling the speed, and after a couple of adjustments (from 10/100 to 100/1000), I was cruising right along at almost the full 300.

@H3xx99Ай бұрын
For the last story, another way to look at it is the apparel market in their service area only has room for a certain number of big companies, and if one of those companies is crap to work for, maybe it's better to take them down a notch so they either trim the employees who are making it difficult to work there, or they make room for more competition. Treating people the way they treat you enforces good behavior and disincentivizes bad behaviour.
@glennmcgurrin8397Ай бұрын
I'm in IT, you know the people who have to remind everyone about vishing ( voice phishing) and other issues, if I ever heard a bank do what that one did I'd be strongly protesting any use of them by any client business or not for the next decade, that's exactly the call all reputable banks state upfront they will never make and we train users to hang up on. Also such a draconian quick cancel, we would never be able to trust the cards to work tomorrow (pro tip, always have backup cards ready with a different bank, but if you don't feel ylu can trust your current bank, don't wait, just switch). I hope that bank lost a lot of customers over this, also like other comments said, governments don't tend to act that way, they had to be ignoring the requirement or there's something else missing in that story.
@kevinkunkel9444Ай бұрын
The only thing lost in this story is what everyone seems to be missing. It's a fake story. If it had been real, then the woman would have been all over the bank trying to get her credit card problem resolved, but in the story, she did nothing.

Not just rural Australia. 100 mb is standard in the cities
@RyanthusarАй бұрын
No, standard speed right now is still 50mbps/20mbps. Then they go 100/20, 250/25, and 1000/50. It really depends on who the retailer is with the NBN here in Australia. However, the NBN company that wholesales to the retailers, from 14 Sept 2025, is planning on boosting the 100 speed from 100/20 to 500/50 and the 250/25 will goto 750/50. Anything above 500 is just going to double to an approx 1000/50 to 1000/100. There are some retailers who are also going to be looking at 2Gigabit speeds. Also to add, we can just bet here in Australia that we will be paying more for our internet due to the speed increase, despite it being increase for ZERO cost on the wholesale end.

Story 2: I wouldn't have trusted the phone call OP made either. If I found I couldn't make any more purchases after that, I would have called that bank and I would have determined why and looked into some kind of lawsuit.
@gregorythomas333Ай бұрын
Story 1: I would absolutely LOVE to be at 100mb/s as I currently pay $90 per month for 50mb/s and only actually get about 30mb/s on a directly connected computer 3 foot away. Story 2: Umm...there is no way I would answer someone...who called me...about wanting my tax ID number. Yeah, scammer...I'm soooo sure you are from the bank...riiiiiiiight. Story 5: I understand what you are saying but the company demanded OP's company only use the CONTRACTED shipper...since it was in the contract OP's company had NO choice.

The bargain hunter employee for travel story - I think it had more to do with how she *likes* to hunt for bargains as it gives her great pleasure not necessarily that oh it’s not a 4 or 5 star hotel. However, you do make good points, maybe how they get rewards, free travel or bonuses dealing with a specific travel company.

I was on a brushcutter course for the nature reserve where I volunteer, I have been using brushcutters for years, and I’m a mechanical engineer / vehicle mechanic. I’d already finished the service whilst the trainer was talking through removing the spark plug, he asked me to do it again as he hadn’t seen me do it and had to verify that I could, seems reasonable. 🤷♂️ One of the others was struggling with removing the cutting head as the locking bar kept falling out, and the trainer was busy helping someone else so I showed her how to do this the easy way and she literally tore me a new one! You’re not the trainer, he’s being paid to train me you’re not! So I kept quiet, next thing is the trainer is having me explain the difference between 2 and 4 stroke engines to the class! 🤣🤣 It hurt me to watch her struggle later in the day during the practical use of the machine section, but I wasn’t volunteering information or help to her again, once bitten twice shy! 🤷♂️

God i wish we had 500 and 1000 as common options here in Australia. I live in a resonably large city of nearly 500,000 and we have only just been able to get above 100Mbps, but it is stupidly expensive and they still have stupidly low upload speed such as 500 down, 50 up.
@weirdopepsidudeАй бұрын
Until 2 years ago the best internet option available in my area was 3 down 1 up dsl that required a service call every 2 years to have the lines repaired due to water damage. When the local power company started installing fiber in my region I followed their progress quarterly for 3 years until they finally got to my area. Getting symmetrical 100 and phone service now for 30% cheaper than the previous monolithic telecom's dsl.

Oh Rob you sad man, I live just outside of a main city CBD, in Australia and its like a 20 to 30 min walk away. I am on the NBN this is fiber.... and I am wasting $89 AUD a month for 50Mbps down and 20Mbps up that is unlimited. Where as when DSL services started here in Australia, Bigbond was offering 256Kbps with a massive 200mb download limit, back then $800 AUD plus internet bills where not uncommon for the first month, I think it was 0.50c AUD per megabyte downloaded after that. Internet has always sucked here.
@KarmaStoriesPodcastАй бұрын
Yeesh! I switched about half a year ago to the new fiber service here and was thrilled to see symmetrical 3gb. My previous service was 1gb/300mb which wasn't all that great for someone uploading to 3 youtube channels!

@@KarmaStoriesPodcast More Internet here in Australia, is still slow as F. The BEST I can get with a fiber cable, NBN is 246 Mbps/20Mbps and that is the best speed. ($109 AUD a month) And as I said, I am close to/within a capital city.

I live in Ottawa, Ontario. I currently get the highest DSL speed available where I am, 50 Mbits/sec down, 10 up. Bell Canada put fiber in my neighborhood 2 years ago. They recently offered our neighbourhood 1500 Mbits/sec down, 300 up with a lifetime discount of X dollars/mo so that I will start paying $85/mo, i.e. $15/mo more than my current prices. (And they also include VoIP and their basic TV package.) Since I'm likely to never get an offer this good again I took it. It was installed this morning and I will be shortly setting up the equipment. Quite frankly, 50 down / 10 up is fine. With it I can broadcast 1080p to Twitch without a single frame lost. All of us can stream all the video we want at the same time. The only time we are slowed down is when downloading huge games, huge video files etc. I am looking forward to enjoying the higher speeds.
