5:17 Fencer here! That wiring isn’t for the wheelchairs actually, but are connected to the blades. Those are used to detect a hit or not. Judging by the hand guard, I assume those are epée blades so there should be a button at the end to push. Button push sends electrical current to that box thingie and box goes beep and a light goes off.

Hello I’m a fencer. the fencing picture at 5:23 shows wheelchair fencing. The wires are attached to the Lame (La-may) and runs through the sleeve and into the sword. That is for keeping track of who hits who when. The wheelchair part I’m not the most familiar with however they do move and I believe they move the wheels back and forth (the chairs may be modified so they’re easier to move single handedly)
