The 2nd story sounds like the husband is trying to get the kids to side with him so he can get custody of them and not pay child support. If he can get them to hate their mother they will want to live with him. He knows with his high earning he will have to pay a good chunk of child support. So it may be a ploy to keep “his” money.

Then when he became a lawyer and we had you guys, there wasn't enough time to take care of you if one of us didn't work part-time. Because I made less money, I started working part-time. Last year, your dad and his "friend" started dating. Mummy didn't know about that. So, we are getting divorced because your dad and his "friend" started dating without Mummy knowing. Your dad took all of the money I earned. I can't afford a lawyer because of that, and we can't get divorced until I get a lawyer." if they're still on dad's side fine. if they still disrespect me when it's my turn for custody fine. if (when they're old enough) they choose to only live with their dad fine. but i will go NC with them (once they're 18) until they apologise for how they treated me.

@ShiftingFixations4 жыл бұрын
Story 2 - So. My friend (much older than me, we met in community college), has two kids. Her husband was a cheater and specifically played the kids against her. I don’t know how things went down, but it was long and brutal, she said. He would teach them bad words and then call her out for being the one who taught them those things when they got in trouble for it at school “my ex-wife must’ve said such awful things around them! How horrific!” and stuff like that. Basically trying to get everyone in the kids’ lives (teachers, babysitters, etc.) to think SHE was the bad parent. Which, might I add, is laughable, because she won’t even say “oh my god,” she says “gosh” and is overall just a lovely human being. The only reason she told us kinda the basics on this stuff is because we heard the kids break something when they were supposed to be asleep on a group call once, so we ended up kinda chatting about kids and the like. Really sad story, honestly. Ex-husband would break stuff when he was mad, so the kid picked up on that and she explained they were working on it. Somehow, some way, she was able to prove it was all on him. She ended up winning primary custody, but then she said it was taking YEARS of therapy and (reasonable) discipline/positive reinforcement to get these young kids to un-learn the words and behavior he’d filled their heads with. Quite honestly she explained it in a much more charitable way than I am. She’s one of the strongest people I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. But the real point is that if you as a parent play kids against the other parent in a divorce, you’re a trash person. You’re awful. If you teach them words like “gold-digger” or worse, that’s heartless. This is an ADULT issue for ADULTS to manage on an ADULT level. Don’t make kids fight your battles. You’re scarring them in ways you can’t even see. That’s a line that needs to be drawn socially and morally. Just across the damn board.

As for the last story I went through something similar as the husband, but my Napoleon was Christmas; imagine the Addams home turning into Buddy Elf's home. This was a result from a psychotic break from being under tremendous stress/abuse from two different jobs I had, which lasted 2-3 years until I got a good break, through lockdown. Christmas was the time in my childhood where I felt loved, so my mind reverted back to that time. I am currently trying to piece back together my old life that my psychotic mind tried to discard.

The Napoleon story sounds like OCD, severe ADHD, Autism, or maybe even some sort Delusion, (I’m a psych major, but not a registered psychologist). Hyperfixations and Special Interests are very common in ADHD and Autistic people, but to this point is rather odd in someone that old. I’m wondering if it’s some sort of stress based coping mechanism. As for why I think it may be OCD, he may be having compulsions related to having these items or reading more. Delusion is a bit of a stretch but if he starts believing he IS Napoleon or anything of the like that would confirm it. Either way this is a clear case of some sort of mental disorder or neurological condition.

The problem with all of those, especially ADHD and autism, is that they're life long personality disorders. Babies are born that way, and the first symptoms show as early as infancy. If the husband is only now and out of the blue showing this kind of obsessive behaviour it is much more likely to be the result of a sudden change in brain functionality than of a congenital disorder. I would suspect some sort of trauma, tumor or chemical imbalance.

@@JootjeJ thats fair, but also a lot of neurodivergent ppl dont get diagnosed until way later in life (if at all), and our special interests/hyperfixations vary in strength. i didnt really have what i would have considered a strong one for years and then i was writing fanfic for a horror podcast after binging it for 2 weeks straight and im still invested in reading fanfic of it and now get very 👀👀👀 about anything even remotely related to it. of course it wasnt to THIS level...but i mean, Shit Happens but obvi we cant know for sure, i hope theyre both ok tho

Idk, does anyone else think the husband from story 3 is using this hobbies indirectly tell her that he want his space or a divorce? All of the stuff he bought could be cheap (replica) or expensive and they just pass the honeymoon phase.

...Did OP insinuate she'd rather her husband have a brain tumor so that his obsession can be "reversed" or she wants a divorce...? Yikes....

Last Story = a brain tumor would only be tragic if was inoperable or terminal. Brain damage of any kind can cause the problems that OP's DH is showing. I knew a man who was a loving husband and dad turn into a bad man when he got brain damaged due to no fault of his own. Workplace accident put something (don't remember) into his brain. Then that would be tragic. This man needs medical intervention ASAP if not last week.

At the beginning of the last story, my immediate thought was undiagnosed autism. But as it went on, sounds more like something serious.

I can really symthatize with OP, except in my case it was because I was legit with a child molester. I mean even finding out your friends with someone who is okay with that kind of behavior is pretty fricken horrible, finding out you where in a relationship with someone like that? Ugh, wouldnt wish it on anyone but the worst of enemies.
