The parent thing...I can see both sides. Parental love can be wonderful, but it can also be stifling and invalidating. My siblings and I were raised by a mother who thinks we shouldn’t need anyone except her, because she doesn’t need anyone except us, and any time we had crises - doesn’t matter if it was breakups with romantic partners, arguments with friends, getting turned down for jobs, whatever - the reaction was, “well, *I* think you’re wonderful, so what’s your problem?” Us being heartbroken or lonely or feeling like we weren’t good enough professionally or having existential crises didn’t matter to her. She’s totally unable to empathise with those feelings. Her opinion of us is the only one that should matter. And it took us multiple DECADES to learn that our own views of ourselves matter, and our relationships with other people matter, not just how mom sees us. In my brother’s case, he also damaged other people because mom always told him he was great and he never felt like he had to modify his behaviour towards others. It’s wonderful if you have a good relationship with your folks, but like anything, it needs to be in balance. The online GFE is a sex worker. If OP knows that and isn’t expecting anything else, you do you. Kudos on the British accent! Not bad at all.

I had the opposite experience, my dad would always insinuate I suck no matter what I was doing. I have been working on me on my own with the help of my bf and my dad has slowly been getting better as a dad (especially after finally getting divorced) and we finally have a decent relationship. Still, he'll be upset if I do something nice for no reason like when I cleaned the garage and made sure everything was as accessible as possible because I moved his things (that were higgely piggely!), gasp! Just one example. But I interact minimally on these tiny tantrums and they fizzle out. Sometimes I get actual appreciation now. I used to consider going no contact after moving out despite his being my only stable parent. He has definitely failed me on some important moments but I also know life has been very hard for him and he has slowly been more respectful since my sister moved out and he realised it is a privilege to even see his daughters and have help with my nephew, who I have been doing everything I can to help care for for years.

The girlfriend experience may seem “affordable” but that’s because it’s only the hook. Gets someone lonely and willing to give money for little in return and gets them invested in you because they’ve literally invested in you and not in the way dates are investing in mutual good times, in the way that established the relationship is transactional. It’s like micro transactions. Initial good deals for sunk cost and so you take it seriously and emotionally invest then a slow ramping up of pressure. Even if this particular person isn’t like that this line of thinking often sets people off on spirals that lead they towards people like that
@ScreamingDucksShotMyMother2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, idk why you're acting like that's wrong. It's the entire point of the girlfriend experience, it's meant to be transactional. If the girlfriend is wrong, then so is the dude paying her. The market wouldn't exist without the men paying.

@@ScreamingDucksShotMyMother Yea I’m not exactly saying the girlfriend is in the wrong just that this guy is I the start of a spiral. His parents would always tell him that "There are jobs everywhere I'm sure you can find one", but it always made him angry because it's well... the sentiment is nice, but it never helped him find a job did it? It's just a compliment, but it's not actually helpful in any way and just kinda reminded him how badly he was failing. He's doing a lot better currently, I just uses him as an example because I kinda understand the anger around that posters parents- He isn't asking for his parents to insult him or something, he's asking for his parents to do more than say nice things. Now that you can argue about all you want.

1:00 this guy's parents aren't doing him any favors by trying to reassure him with "you're a handsome boy, I'm sure you'll get a girlfriend eventually." He can tell it's a b.s. answer. If he's voicing to his *parents* that he's frustrated because he's not getting the response he wants from people he's interested in, he's asking them for help. I can't tell his age from the text, but maybe he's too young to be trying to date, like he's a literal child. Maybe he's of age but he comes across as whiney or dismissive or has some other habits that generally rub people the wrong way. I get his point. My parents are not blind to my flaws, but there are indeed parents who see their kids as handsome and perfect no matter what, in which case I could see why their compliments mean nothing and are not useful to him. Plus if his self esteem is really low he probably has a hard time taking compliments seriously anyway, especially those coming from his parents. But as much as I could understand why he is annoyed by that, telling them just that their compliments mean nothing because they are his parents doesn't help anyone in that situation, it's not opening any constructive conversation.
@RaspBerryPies2 жыл бұрын
@@vuivraalbastra I can understand that point of view but I personally don’t really think their comments don’t mean anything. 7:20 I came up with this concept when I was making levels in Neverwinter Nights almost 20 years ago. (None ever made it into a finished state, sadly, but it was a great experience.) Of course, those were the same game, but it would have been really easy to take an item you earn in one story into another one and make it useful there because of how item naming worked in the game code. And I wasn't the only one with this idea. I remember when the DS came out, you could put the right GBA game into the GBA slot to unlock content in the DS game that otherwise wouldn't be obtainable, sometimes even across franchises. And this was all before crypto-currencies were a thing. And also yeah, Cue is right. If I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077, why would I want to stop playing that and play Candycrush to advance in the game I actually want to play? That seems really counter-intuitive. Wouldn't it make much more sense to implement something like Candycrush inside Cyberpunk as an optional mini-game, thus keeping the player in your game? This isn't a new idea either, I remember WoW did this a while back when they did a cross-over with Plants VS Zombies that allowed you to earn a sunflower pet. And of course, all without any weird block-chain attached.

Imagine you get a good and new game your really excited about. You boot up the game on release and are excited to meet all the other new players. All of a sudden you realize your alone in the starting area because you didn't play a different game.

I hate the "hall pass" shit, even in hypotheticals.. Either you're committed or you're not, the only hall pass you'll get is a permanent one. Just for clarity I'm monogamous.

4:59 For the the guy here my advice would be: 1. Take some form of fighting classes, karate or boxing it doesnt matter. 2. Pretend this fiasco ever happened. 3. Anyone who brings it up challenge them to a fight to show they're the pussy and if its a girl then challenge their bf. 4. Let the clout carry you to the finish line.
