Something reminded me of my transition. One year before I officially called myself a male, I decided to be as female as possible. I wanted to be pretty and I thought it was because of someone I thought I liked. I wasn't traditionally effeminate and I thought my hurting was because of that. I wanted a normal life and to look back and see that I tried forcing myself to be something that I'm not? It killed me and by the time I stopped being effeminate I had cut myself to the point of where my thighs stung even if the jeans touched them. I wanted the pain to stop. I wanted to die back then. But, something told me that I could be comfortable. I could be who I am. So during that summer, I cut my hair and decided that I was going the man I was inside. I made a makeshift binder and told my friends to call me E.J. or to call me James. It really helped. And yeah, my folks aren't accepting at all, but my small army of friends are. This Friday my dysphoric bois™ and I are meeting to talk and spill tea. I'm also giving them some of my old nonconforming clothes that I'm hoping they'll like. Thanks for even reading this far, it feels so good to say this!

I'm Sama. I'm non-binary and my family doesn't accept me either, except for my siblings who are great and honestly weren't surprised at all when i came out, as i had always acted very different from the expected binary. Feels great but i still hurt that out of my whole extended family, i can only trust my siblings and maybe one or two cousins that don't know yet but always seemed more like me than they probably realized.

I know that this is suuper late and also a bit of a strange question, but how can you refer to someone during a conversation as they/them, or even as she/her and he/him? Aren't you like calling person you're talking with "you"? Ofc if it's in a different language than English, verbs in a sentence could be gendered according tp the subject, too (like in my native language), so I would get it. I was just curious. Thanks!
@AryaFairywren Жыл бұрын
@@Bb-yr1cu yea you're correct! in English, when say, a friend tells you their pronouns, those pronouns are for use when talking to someone else and referring to that friend. in face-to-face conversation with that friend, it's "you" indeed. As for more gendered languages, it varies - in ie Russian, my native language, with gendered verbs (past tense specifically), it will also affect the verbs in face-to-face conversations with that friend.

Imagine if you liked burritos but everyone else bullied and shamed you for it because tacos are way more popular and burritos are "only for edgelords who want attention". And no matter how you explain that you just have different tastebuds and you were born like that, they insist that because you have a tongue you must be like them and secretly like tacos and just made the choice to switch to burritos for clout. Now imagine your parents kick you out because "we won't have any edgelord burrito lovers on this family, this is a taco only household!" Imagine having to eat tacos and hating it because you're afraid that if people find out you don't like them you'll be beaten up or force fed tacos "until your tastes change" and told it's for your own good. That's what it feels like to be part of the LGBT+. Only instead of food tastes, it's your gender and/or sexuality that's out of the norm. I hope this helps people understand us better? I find food analogies are great for explaining sexualities and shoe boxes are great for explaining genders. Everyone knows what those things are and it helps people relate!

I'm not out or anything but just they she points out I'm a girl every sentence makes me so drained at the end of the day! but a good part is when i went over to my aunts. she is so accepting and when i came out as pansexual i also just asked to be called T, "because i like it as a nickname." and well she also said she to me, I felt no reason to stick to gender roles or anything.

You are an amazing person and have helped me so much over this past little bit. My life is like balancing on a chopstick over lava right now, and you and all your fans give me a wall to lean on. I am a FTM trans in the closet and my days have been filled with terrible dysphoria and I have been ready to end it all many times. But when I see your content (especially your LGBT+ content) it gives me hope that one day I can be myself, and that keeps me going when it seems like dying is the best option. I don't know if you'll see this, but I hope you know the impact you are making on many people like me, stuck in a terrible place with no real way of escape. At this point I only have the internet to be myself, but I'm glad I found a community like yours. I just wanted to say a little rant, I'm sorry.
@applejuice71085 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth Midford There’s no rush on figuring it out. Take your time. If you need support, feel free to talk to me. Many trans people could (and in some cases do) live out their lives as the gender they were assigned with. But if being a girl makes you uncomfortable, don’t be afraid to try out other pronouns and find your identity. Don’t be afraid to get it wrong, many trans people identify as simply gay before realizing there’s more to it. And if you realize that you are a girl, that’s totally fine too!
@kyab28154 жыл бұрын
Gender is hard. Part of it is wrapped up in social constructs but part of it is wanting to break away from them. Just take your time. I haven't figured out mine yet either. I don't mind being female but the entirety of gender itself is kinda annoying and makes no sense and means nothing to me so I might be agender but that also seems like a lot of work to go through those conversations especially with my obnoxious brother and I'm super lazy so meh. My gender is "eh female I guess?" for the foreseeable future. You are not alone on this very confusing road. We all struggle with it sometimes.
@Amara87387 Жыл бұрын
It’s okay. I don’t mind being a boy, but being a girl just feels more right to me. You’re still valid. You might have figured yourself out by now or you might not, but you’re still valid. You got this!
