water tank near door is to extinguish the fire on the door and keep the door wet , when enemy is firing on the door with gun. the doors are made of wood and can sustain the shock wave and blast of explosive but not fire , so door needs to be kept wet and after every explosion the sparks on door need to be extinguished. if the enemy is firing continuous then the water source nearby will help to sustain for prolong period,reducing his ammunition. this is my conclusion my what so ever limited exposure, I don't have documentary proof. but being a student of warfare technique and military architecture,i found this solution. thank you for presenting this query.
