Man. When I was selling my house my agent had me remove all the personality out. So afraid it would scare off buyers. Sold in 8 days and the buyers were pissed when they found out all the stuff I gave away. The scary stuff... sugar skulls. The tiles on the front porch I refused to paint over is why they bought it. A line of different sugar skulls. They said the second they saw it, they said sold🤷‍♀️. They even asked me to leave the zombie garden gnomes.

5:30 Yes they did need to remove the tree... Tree roots typically spread out 50% MORE than the canopy (branches and leaves) diameter... So if your tree has a canopy of 30 feet, the roots will spread 45 feet out... The pictured tree is right beside the foundation...it's WAY to freaking close to the house to be safe, it WILL eventually cause damage to the foundations that will be VERY expensive to fix...

So, I'm not big on house design, decor, renovation, or anything like that, but it seems I get annoyed at the idea of painting or covering over brick and stonework. For example, at 5;12, gray house, I didn't mind the main house being gray, but I certainly would NOT have covered up the brickwork of the garage like that. I would have tried to clean it, but left it untouched. definitely not replace it with vinyl siding. Also, at 9:25, I was annoyed as soon as Robin read out that they had painted the brickwork gray.

It's usually only new money that worries about everyone acknowledging their status.

@00:54 I'm almost willing to bet that's the original shag carpeting on bare floor from when this kitchen was built; probably early 70's at the height of the avocado green craze. Hell, even the chairs and majority of the appliances look like they might be original, apart from the fridge and microwave. A bona fied time capsule in this photo that reminds me of why avocado and harvest gold, along with the obsession of putting carpet EVERYWHERE, needed to die in a fire come the 80's.

I love 70s decor like that. I love the earth tone colors that were around in that time. I would prefer homes with this style any day compared to modern houses. I’m a rare find especially considering I’m only 15. Homes like these need to be preserved instead of being changed.
@mephdlop

@@retroryan838 My grandparents lived in an avocado house with the faux wood panels & shag similar to this, so I have first hand experience of the good and bad. It's something nice to look at for a while when done right, but tended to wear it's welcome out in a short span of time and was usually a nightmare to live with, especially the carpet. 70's shag carpet absorbed everything that touched it... scents, liquids from food, grease, dirt, chemicals, pee, etc... and in damp rooms it tended to grow mold/mildew within it's vast amounts of fibers. You had to have it deep cleaned on a near monthly basis to keep your house from smelling like bacon that's gone off in the kitchen, and something of a cross between a swamp and a gas station toiiet in the bathrooms. Lord help you if you had a damp basement rec room with the stuff or pets. The faux wood panels were also really easy to damage through the thin veneer and not easy to repair short of replacement. It was a trend that went into absurd gaudiness levels at the end and burned out, burning out folks along with it from the colors being used on nearly everything (appliances, cookware, walls, dishes, electronics, and such) and all the extra work to keep it all looking good. It's part of the reason why the 80's had such a tonal whiplash into light oaks and pastels. And no more carpets in certain rooms.

0:55 I love 70s decor. More people need to like this style. I would take this any day compared to the bland nothing houses today look. I love 70s wood paneling, the seats on that table look really comfortable, the avocado cabinets and perfect. Only change would be the carpet. I could cut it in half and add authentic 70s linoleum flooring in the kitchen to make it the perfect home. Houses like this need to be preserved instead of changed.

5:21 actually, that tree was WAY too close to the house. The roots could have grown into the foundations. There is actually a minimum distance away from the house that certain species of trees are given so that the roots, if they are wild and grow in all the directions ever, won't cause damage. At least, that's the reason we were given when our massive tree that was 14 feet away from our front porch and when our HOA demanded we replace it with a selection of trees and distance from the house, the people we talked to about buying any of them said, "no, that's too close to the home with this selection and this distance." Small edit: To prevent confusion, our massive tree was removed by us about 15 years ago, and now the HOA is saying that all front yards need a tree, but all the selections they gave are being denied by all the people we've gone to to buy them.

I really liked alot of these, I would totally live in a castle. I like the house with the under ground tunnel to the other home on the property. I would love to have a toilet in my living room or bathtub next to my bed. All the 70s styles, I would keep, I agree on all carpets being removed. Even the shower with the dungeon reminds me of my grandpas house, he was a coal miner would come home filthy, walk into the rustic shower, just off to the side of the root cellar, to hose off the coal dust. He would keep his coal gear in the cellar below the shower.

5:20 trees that big shouldn't be planted that close to the house, they can damage the foundations especially if they're concrete slab. the rest of what they did to the front of the property is terrible, but we removed the trees right against the wall of our new house too - it felt bad, but needed to be done
