I'm so glad I found your video, my youngest is 4 + 4 months and he refuses to go potty, I'm super frustrated because I signed him up for prek as he needed people skills with peers and had talk to the teacher who said it was OK, to then be all judgey and pushy because "we don't teach them to potty train in prek" I was like "I told you before signing him up, you said you would help us if I didn't manage it before school started... why is it suddenly my "neglect/laziness", I had told you of my struggles" it's super frustrating when everybody is judging you but no one has any tips or helps you get through it

Omg being on KZbin we’ve gotten some of the most outrageous advice lol. I’m letting my other two do it on their own time. They watch their big sister snd follow so I’m not forcing it or making it a big deal. It’s working well. My middle is 3 and is almost there with minimal effort. My youngest is almost two so she’s just starting to take interest.

I'm going through this with my 4yr old son. It's been such a struggle. He just refuses to sit on his potty or stand and try to pee in it. But I know it will happen eventually. She's ADORABLE btw. ❤ Update: 10-13-22 He's just started Kindergarten this year and this is his first experience going to school since we didn't send him to Pre-K. He's finally using the full size toilet and he is completely out of the pull-ups. I'm so relieved he's finally started going on the big toilet and he's even started going to the bathroom all by himself (he always wanted me to go with him before) He's had a few accidents since starting school but I send him with a change of clothes. He's made such a massive improvement compared to 9months ago & I knew it would happen eventually. We are still working on him wiping his butt by himself because he still doesn't want to do it but I'm confident it won't be much longer. ( I have 3 other children who are all grown now) 2 girls &1 boy. The youngest is 21. And my oldest son who's now 23 took longer to potty train than my girls but none of them took as long as my youngest here. I started beating myself up thinking I had done something wrong but every child is an individual and as long as they are healthy & sound they will eventually get it. I am saying this because I felt so horrible & I hate to think of any mother/parent beating theirs elves up like I did. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty, or feel that you're a bad parent for it when you know you've done your best.

My 3 yr old is refusing to go after being really excited to learn. This is our second time around. She will pee in the potty and seems to know what to do but I have to remind her and get her to the potty and she refuses. If I don't push it too hard and just let her decide when to go she will pee her pants and not tell me. Stickers, candies, toys. We have tried all of the rewards. The only thing that seems to work now is the reward of watching a show but then there is a meltdown when it's time to turn it off. We just went back to diapers today. Giving us all a much needed break.

Thanks for posting your ideos on potty training struggles. I am also a special ed LBD teacher with a difficult 3 year old. She has speech, motor delays, and challenging behaviors. My daughter did the same thing with peeing on the floor as soon as she gets up from the potty. She didnt seem to care if she got wet or peed on herself, she continued to play. I had to take a break from working on potty training because I felt so overwhelmed because I felt like we werent getting anywhere. After watching your videos I have a lot more hope, and she has recently started becoming obsesssed with frozen. So I think that it will make it easier incorporating a frozen potty chart and searching for a frozen potty. ( Even though I have purchased about 5 different potties as of right now.) Again thanks for sharing your videos and your struggles, becuase when you have a 3 year old that refuses to potty it is very difficult and frustrating. Most kids dont like the feeling of peeing on themselves and being wet so that alone is enough to motivate them. When you have a child that could care less, I think that's what makes it so difficult.

It took a week and a half for my 3 year old to stop being afraid of sitting on her potty. We even had her older cousin whi she adores play games with the potty to show her that sitting on the potty wasn't scary. We were excited that she was no longer fighting us to sit on the potty. So we did the whole every 2 hours go to the potty and one day she was freaking out on there (but not getting off of it) and I didn't understand what was going on. She then peed. We were super excited and once she finished peeing she was excited. We went and got her a toy and stickers. We thought "wow this is it". Nope. That was actually the beginning of the worst because after that first pee she knew that the pee was supposed to go in the potty so she ouright refused to even sit on it and she's go into full panic mode when she knew she needed to pee. It's been absolute hell. So now we just got her training underwear and we're just not telling her to use the potty. She doesn't seem to care that she gets wet in her training underwear 🤦♀️

I'm going to restart again when he's 2.5 years old. I know it will be hard still as he is super stubborn!! Funnily enough, he still does a poo in toilet but peeing is a HUGE issue. I don't prompt him for a poo either, it's him saying. I wonder if I've made it confusing for him so that he thinks only poo needs to go in the toilet and pee doesn't?! My gut says he is just being stubborn though. I also tried reward charts and stickers like you previously but gave up in the end. Wish me luck for round 2! Any advice on how to restart? Previously when I tried the prompting method, he became even more reluctant and put major fights! I'm really not sure how to approach it again

My daughter is 4 in September, and she 'can' go #1 in the potty, but refuses to go #2, she will go 3 to 4 days with no bowl movements. On top of that, she pretty much only goes #1 in the morning and almost never says, "yes, I need to go potty". She was doing that for #1 at the beginning, but she has regressed, as yours did, and now refuses to do anything. She will sit in a wet spot and play or eat, and only acknowledge that she has gone after we notice the wet spot, or smell it and ask her. I think she is having issues because of the classes being cut in our area because of Covid, that she no longer gets the social interaction of kids her own age. Peer pressure is a huge thing for kids her age, at least that's what I've been told. I also think the fact that she is an only child might have something to do with it. but either way, we are struggling, she is supposed to start Nursery School in September, but the school has said that kids MUST be bathroom independent before starting. if that's the case, then we might have to delay her starting in school, which, to me, seems a bit extreme. Has your daughter had any issues having a bowl movement on her own? Our daughter will just wait until she's in an overnight diaper and go in bed, or if she needs to, just soil her underwear, forcing us to toss it out, as we can't get it out, it's that embedded into the fabric.
@LifeOnTheSpectrumYT4 жыл бұрын
Yes we had every single issue you mentioned. I ended up being that mean mom and I started taking her favorite toys away. She would have to go 3 times with no accident to get it back. She still tries to hold her #2 sometimes because she doesn’t want to stop playing. I have to remind her everything will be ready for her when she comes back. I’ve had to threaten toys, dessert, screen time and other things to get her to go. It wasn’t ideal because I never wanted to have to do that but she just wouldn’t go without the fear of losing a privilege.

This is my son to a T. He could care less having both 1 and 2 in his underpants. He will not tell me he needs to go potty, I have to constantly take him every hour, everyday. Sticker charts, treats, toys, coin jar, fishing pole, super cool potty ladder cause he wants to use the "big potty", nothing seems to help make this connection that seems to be broken. I feel like a failure. My last ditch effort is to enroll him a couple days a week into a late 3 yr old class because they help potty train and peer pressure may be "it." He has 2 months before Pre-K starts at the same place and they expect him to be fully trained. /pray

Going through this with our 6 year old foster child. Never trained and very smart, many stubborn behaviors. In fact we wait to have him make his bed until after school because we have to sit with him for over an hour sometimes into two plus hour range until he makes it, and we just don’t have that time in the morning. We’ve tried to potty Tran over 3 different times all while taking time off of work. I’m thinking a potty chart and getting to watch cartoons on the chair is going to help a lot. He’s very smart and tries to negotiate his way out or scream cries and falls to the floor when he’s asked to do something he doesn’t want- nothing has worked potty training.

My son is 3 almost 4, and he doesn't want to sit on the potty. I've put him on the potty and he fights and cries and screams until he gets up. He will hold his pee, i can see it, he has to go but he won't sit on the potty and go, he holds it until he pees all over himself. The first time he peed without a diaper, I rushed him to the potty and he fought and cried and got some pee inside the potty, but pee also on the floor. I praised the pee he did in the potty. The whole "Alright! You pee peed in the potty! High five!. Way to go. Good job!" Yay! Cheer, but he didn't seem to care because the next time he had to use the bathroom we went through the same thing with the fighting and crying. This is the second day, i know it might be too soon to expect him to use the potty, but every video I've seen before yours, they were all like "Potty train in 3 days", and I haven't seen any videos about the kid literally crying and screaming to refuse to sit on the potty. And I too, have people making "comments" about how late the potty training is. How I should have started earlier and how because of that I'm not made to feel like a bad or lazy mom. How do you tell people that you don't think they are ready to potty train? All kids learn at different rates, but according to people around me, he should already know how to use the bathroom. Anyway, sorry for the rant, thanks for the video.

My 3 1/2 year old is still potty training. I get negative comments about his age and the fact that he’s not fully trained and still has accidents. Thanks for sharing your story! How is pooping on the potty going? He’s pooped only twice and the rest in his underwear/pull-up/floor. :/ Any tips for poop potty training? Thanks in advance! ❤️❤️❤️

I guess my precious comment never went through. We went off her cues with pooping. We could tell when she had to but it only happened after we got her to pee on the potty.

You are so right. The part where you mentioned kids having control over 2 main things: eating and going potty. If a kid doesn't want to eat something they won't. My daughter went through alot (3 heart surgeries before she turned 2) and had a gtube for eating difficulties. She's eating now but man potty training is a whole other nightmare now. We've tried everything under the sun for the past 2 years.

Dealing with a 4-year old who refuses to pee unless she has the diaper on. You’ll sit on the potty chair, or the toilet, but must have the diaper on to go. If I make her hold it, she will hold it until she shakes (7-8 hours straight). Any tips?

People are so judgemental. They think every kid is like their own. I have two kids, and they are so different it's amazing. Like my son, he was talking starting by saying Mum at 4 months. By the time he was a year and half old he had the vocabulary of a 4 year old. But, my daughter is three and will be going into speech therapy so every child is different. Same mom but different kids. My son was also very easy I almost never had to teach him twice to not do something. My daughter on the other hand, is very stubborn. She is the type of kid who cooperates with me cooperating with her, sort of thing. Both are very smart and in different ways. But, it just showed me that success in various areas is as much to do with the kid as it has to do with the parent. What works with one kid may not work with another. Plus, every family has different circumatances, and some families have an easier time of things than others. So, people should try to not be so quick to judge. Sometimes a good parent gets judged wrongly. And make unkind comments. Thanks for the advice.

We got that trick of him cleaning up his own mess, bringing his own underwear(pull up at night) and wipes to us and then throwing it in the trash or hamper himself to work. He had about two pee accidents and one poop accident before he just realized that going on the potty was quicker. He now has the number one and number two down! Now we just have to say good bye to pull ups at night and in the car and we will have conquered potty training before 3

Way to go, Maddie! Thank you for your tips! My daughter is going to be 4 in July and got into preschool, ao we are on the home stretch of getting her potty trained and she just couldnt care less! Im pretty sure shw thinks its a joke at this point that she wont do it. We know she understands the concept, but she told me she doesnt want to grow up and go to school, so i think maybe she feels like by not potty training, she wont have to grow up, poor peanut! We cant even get her to put on underwear and takw them right off, let alone sit on the potty 🤦🏽♀️ weve been trying for about as long as you were! She uses to sit on the potty with no production, but would at least do it, and wear training pants. She backslid and never got back. This gives me hope and inspries me to keep going! I hate the shade, guilt and judgement we get about her still being diapers... weve been trying so hard! My baby girl is just SO stubborn, those heels are dug in deep! 😅

It’s so difficult. Sometimes they just arent ready. We ended up having to take toys away and she had to work to get them back. That’s what ended up working in the end. My middle just turned 3 and were starting this week. My fingers are crossed that it goes better this time.

My daughter is almost 4 and a half and she is not against going potty training, however she has stopped drinking water in order not to have to go pee on the potty. We used to give her training pants at night and before bed she would drink a lot just because she had the feeling of being safe in the diaper.... We went to the doctors and she is physically fine, but she is just not very good at controlling the bladder.... We're so torn....she starts school in autumn... hopefully we can get this done by then...

What would you do if the child only stays dry when they are naked but goes in their pants when they have bottoms on. That’s what our child does. He only stays dry when he is naked. Does this mean that he is ready to potty train or should we wait until he is 2 and a half
@LifeOnTheSpectrumYT2 жыл бұрын
We’re kinda going through the same thing with my middle now. So frustrating. They are def ready but I think it’s more of them being stubborn and in control. Maybe make him clean up his mess, get new undies on his own, throw the dirty ones in the hamper. Make it a super inconvenience for him every time he sets himself. He’ll see it’s easier to go on the potty vs doing all that work.

@@LifeOnTheSpectrumYT3 and a half years and he is now potty trained day and night! Poopoos in the potty was actually surprisingly easy but that’s because this kid doesn’t even like touching soil outside in the garden with us(autism, sensory issues)so of course he doesn’t like poop on his butt. Peepee in the potty took forever but that was because; you were right…it was a control thing! And we should have seen it right then and there because if he’s showing us that he can poop on the potty which most kids take forever to get over that little hump….then it’s obviously control if he’s only going to pee when he’s naked….so obviously we put him in underwear and he pretty much peed his pants 5 times and it wasn’t even 11am yet. So we asked him a simple question: where did our big boy go Logan…and he said that he was our big boy and we said: but I don’t think you are because big boys don’t pee in their boxers….and so he said that he was a big boy and he can “show”us and we said; alright then. Then please start going peepee on the potty. We did this for a week straight where he would go peepee on the potty and then look up at us and say: I’m a big kid NOW! And after that week we decided his regression was over: For nightime training pretty much we did it your way. Put the kid in pull ups or a nappy(we live in the UK) every night and then when they start to complain take them out and just wake them before you go to bed, have them go, and then put them back. But yeah he is about 99.9 percent potty trained! Now it’s all about getting over the fear of using other potties outside of home or other people’s homes! Oh and as for stickers and toys he loves the Cars series(The Disney Movie Series about cars)so for rewards we gave him a sticker or a die-cast vehicle for number two and jumped up and down when he did a number one!

That’s so difficult. 3 1/2 really isn’t that bad either. Every kid needs a different amount of time. I’m trying not to push her too much since we had nowhere to go in the pandemic. I didn’t have much of a reason to push her harder.

I honestly thought I was a bad parent for my son not being potty trained or my son being extremely picky. He will only eat a few certain foods and they're not healthy. Tried offering foods and a majority of the time he wont even try it. Anyways, I can't get him potty trained for the life of me. He's going to be 5 this month. I sat him on the toilet one day because he said he had to go. He sat there for like an hour and a half and Nothing happened. I waited until the morning one day to put gim on the toilet when he woke up. Nothing came out. He was crying a begging to get off the toilet. Before that day, he had to be put in undies while I got some pull ups. He said he liked the way they felt, but yet he went in them and had a melt down because he didn't like how it felt. I'm really worried about kindergarten because he goes in the fall and what if I can't get gim trained by then. The taking something away until they go is something I want to do. The tablet is one I'd take away. I just know he's going to scream and cry about getting it back which is so hard!

@@Emmoxxs My son finally does the potty for both 1&2 when I almost gave up.I think my tip is to relax ourselves infront of the kid, which mean don't make it a big deal if he doesn't do it , and give him a light compliment when he does it.
