R32 Skyline GTS25 RB25DE+T Conversion Part 2

Documenting adding a turbo to an NA RB25DE that is in my R32 Skyline GTS25. I am using mostly OEM RB parts for this build and am not going for huge power, just a mild reliable setup.

The startup is healthy and sounds good. I'm happy for you. Do you know what your ECU is tuned for? You might have to do more timing adjustments to make it run smoothly.

On my first test drive the car will drives normally but when I try to hit boost, it feels like is under boost, and accelerating will bog out. I decide to change my stock maf to n62 z32 maf, top feed 440cc injectors and fuel pump. The tuner will have to retard the timing to be safe and play with timing a little at a time. My total timing degree is 24. Now, no more under boost and I can feel the huge differences and turbo can breath much better and produce power.

That is a lot like what I was experiencing. It is fixed now but I basically had to replace the ignition coils since most of them were cracked and I also had to adjust my base timing to 15* from the 20 or so that it was set at when it was automatic. I also at first had a full tank of 87 which I am sure did not help. It runs good now and smooth in boost.

@@DIYAUTOCAR use 93 octane it will help. I add a bottle of VP Octanium and you can research it before mix with your gas. That's good everything works out now.

What type of gearbox does the gts25 come with? 71c small box or the big rb box?

Mine was originally automatic and I converted it with the 71c transmission and GTST driveshaft. I'm pretty sure the factory manual versions also come with it. On the r32 they did not have the larger RB25 transmission.

@@azutan depends how much work you want to do vs the cost savings. When I bought my car in 2019 the RB25de r32 was like half the price of an rb20det car. The easier route is to start with a turbo model but it will cost more.

Is the oem RB25det turbo only water cooled? Or can you just run oil lines on both rb20det and 25det stock turbos? Asking because having to run water lines is a pain and I want to run a 25det turbo only with oil lines

They both have water lines from the factory. I chose not to run the water lines and it has been fine. Obviously not ideal but I also did not want to run the water lines.

@@DIYAUTOCAR gotcha! So by not “ideal” running no water lines to the turbo won’t hurt the engine whatsoever correct?
