There's a few things you got wrong. The A1 shoots 8k 4;22 intra, that was changed with the last update as you said which is very important. The Atomos also now do 8k Raw with the A1 as well I think. Why didn't you look this up before you put out this information which is very important lol. jus

Thanks for the update! I'll modify the video to correct myself. Though I could not find any info regarding your Atomos statement. I know Atomos can do 4k 120fps with Sony cameras, but no 8k raw. That's Canon only.

Meh. Spec sheet battle. I sold my R5 and got the A7 IV and prefer using it to the R5. Paper specs means nothing - it's all about how the operator plans to use it.

Canon R5 and Sony A1 does 4k 120 fps pixel binned , while A7S3 does it as a full sensor readout. The quality is much superior. Also, canon R5 does not have a BSI sensor. Sony A7SIII now has time code and most probably shutter angle is coming soon :)

There’s NO difference that anyone would ever notice with these DSLR’s… I had an R5 for a year, I ditched it for the Canon C70… I own the C70, BMPCC6k pro, FX3, and the R6… They’re all great… Now the R5C if it had a better battery is pretty special as its probably the only real hybrid with the recent Fuji releases… But as for quality… It’s to close to make these claims unless youre a content creator trying to keep things interesting 😜 It’s all in the content/ story… Do an “unbiased” test. Put the cameras side by side and shoot the same footage in the different frame rates on the same day… The 8k is nice but the files are so big it’s not worth it from an editing standpoint… All these cameras are amazing today… There’s no BETTER, its really what works for you… I know people who can make the A7S3 look better than the R5 and visa-a-versa… Still dig your vids and this is only my opinion ❤

Well said! I agree with you 100%. Most people won't notice a difference, and heck, some of my older videos that I did with the original 6D amaze me with it's quality. It really depends on the story and the person behind the camera helping to tell the story to really show how good quality can be, among other things. This video is more from a features perspective. Having the option to do these different recording modes when compared to the other cameras for the look is what I meant. One thing I didn't mention is that from a dynamic range perspective, to me, Sony still takes the cake. What a time to live in! Thanks for the comment!

@@magnus547 Sony does have pretty good dynamic range… The recent Canons are coming on strong with low light as you said and dynamic range… Also, i wasn’t totally fair because you are right the Canons R5 and R5C 8K is spectacular and probably some of the best looking Video out of any of these consumer/ pro cameras… The R5C is an even better “video” camera with some slight updates and I must say I’m in love with that camera right now… Canon color science is also easier to work with in post… Theres that too… Didnt mean to disagree, i think you are right, my point was that its a small difference and although straight out of camera Canon wins, it doesnt take much for some of these other lines to catch em.. ❤️✌🏼😎 Keep it up!

For reason 1 i'd say no one is pixel peeping for that difference, Sony can also record low as 45mbps for 10bit 422 or high up to 600mbps. Reason 2: true, 8k internal raw is a spec the others don't have. You can record 1h into a 1TB HDD. Reason 3: If it's price then the blackmagic, the new Fuji X-H2 should also be taken into consideration, but then AF on these camera's isn't the same. But if the R5 works for you... good. Each camera is like a tool that fits different needs.

NO ONE is pixel peeping. True statement. I LOVE low bit rate options. Fuji X-H2 is an interesting camera at a very competitive price-point. They threw in 8K for $2K. 8K isn't everything, but I think camera manufacturers want to use it as a selling point. Though I didn't include other cameras since I just wanted to focus on Canon vs Sony. I did a video not too long ago talking about how my BMPCC 4K is my favorite camera. Even when compared to the R5. I'm just a sucker for the image you get out of that thing. Hope you're well!

It did, and it's price point of $5,500 is amazing. I would honestly choose the Nikon over the Sony too, for those impressive features. R5 is still my choice though, just because of the price. But Nikon definitely deserves credit.

Good image quality is not just about "sharpness". Pretty much everyone is shooting these days with some form of mist filter on to reduce clarity. Secondly, if Canon didn't shoot themselves in the foot by banning 3rd party lens support they'd be in the game. Such a bad move. That alone should be the main reason why you should be critical of Canon. Thirdly, lens focusing noise on RF lenses is unacceptable IMO. They "click" like crazy and one must be boomed to avoid hearing it. Not good for run and gun shooters. The latest releases of Sony GM's are silent in comparison.

I never understood the big deal about internal raw with mirrorless. Sure, it's convenient but the price of memory cards to record a few hours of raw (large files) comfortably gets extremely pricey to the point of it not even being worth the hassle.

I think it comes to workflow and flexibility in post in terms of RAW. I film quite a few music videos, and to be honest, I don't always know the color grading visual look I might want to go for when I'm filming the music video. But the ability to shoot Raw gives me that added comfort to really push and pull the colors in post, and change WB if I need to. I completely agree with your statement about memory cards. To be honest, after buying the R5, I had to save up just to buy the memory cards I needed to be able to work with longer shoots. But once I was able to buy the cards, it's a game changer. Now I don't recommend this for everyone, but what I do is I'll only transfer the 4K proxy files to my hard drive, but keep the raw files on the CF Express card and edit with the footage still on the card. I save space, and still have an emergency backup of the footage in a reasonable size, if I need it. To some, it's not worth the hassle, but having the option is worth it for me.

No. The R5C is better than them. The R5 is still on their level except for its superior color science. R5C has 15 stops of dynamic range, 24o fps and unlimited video shooting.

Small correction, the r5c only has 14 stops of dynamic range. Unlimited video shooting is a plus though!

Excellent information here regarding the Canon R5 and I'm happy for Canon owners. I'm married to the Sony system and traded in a massive amount of Nikon and Fuji gear to get here. We also shoot Blackmagic as well. My next big move will be for the Sony FX6 or FX9 (whenever you can find one in stock) because I wanted one system to move between. The Sony A1 was never meant to be the end all to be all for video, it's a hybrid camera meant to combine some of the best features of the A9II and the A7SIII in one body, but your point is well noted due to the incredibly high price. The only real issue that will haunt Canon and I hope it is rectified soon is the potential lawsuits against third-party lens makers and them closing down their system to RF by Canon only even though EF is an option with an adapter. I want all of these companies, Nikon included, to succeed in the video arena because this will introduce competition, which will keep prices low or at least competitive. This could hurt adoption into their system by both new and old with the new or potential, deciding to say no way and the old to decide to possibly sell depending on their lens and how deep they are into Canon. I hope it gets worked out and they license RF lenses to Tamron and Sigma at least for a fee. Have you checked out the Sigma FP or FPL? It looks like a very interesting system and it might be worth your time Magnus to get one in for testing with it.

Overheating has never been my problem but I still really do hate the R5 timer. I love that no 29:59 timer feature in my R7 backup camera which has a very good 4K Fine with downsampling

Canon has the worst budget primes. They're terrible for video with the slow stm motor. They're RF L lenses make noise when autofocus as well.

Also, I don't trust Canon and the lens selection (and price, because Canon has CONTEMPT for its user base - only took them 3 years to release firmware that fixed the appalling problems at release time). But I do at least acknowledge that you have a point (I don't agree with it, but I do see its logic). But! To me, patronizing Canon is like a chicken buying stock in Foxes...
