ക്നാനായ ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളുടെ മാത്രം കലാ രൂപമല്ല മാർഗം കളി. പൗരസ്ത്യ ക്രിസ്തീയ സഭാ വിഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ ( ഓർത്തഡോക്സ്, യാക്കോബായ ) പ്രചുര പ്രചാരം സിദ്ധിച്ച തനതു കലാ രൂപവും ആയിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ, മുതിർന്ന ആണുങ്ങൾ മാത്രം കളിച്ചിരുന്ന ഈ കളി എങ്ങനെ പെൺകുട്ടികൾ മാത്രം ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന വിഭാഗമായി മാറി എന്നറിയുന്നില്ല. വി. വേദ പുസ്തകത്തിലെ പഴയനിയമ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ പ്രദിപാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ജനജീവിതത്തിൻ്റെ വിവിധ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ഉരുത്തിരിഞ്ഞ ഈരടികളാണ് മാർഗംകളി പാട്ടുകളായി രൂപം പ്രാപിച്ചു ഞങ്ങളുടെയൊക്കെ പൂർവ തലമുറക്കാർ പാടിയിരുന്നത്. "ആദത്തെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു ഏദനിലാക്കി ദൈവം " എന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഈരടികൾ എൻ്റെ പിതാമഹൻമാരോക്കെ ചടുലമായ ചുവടുകൾ വെച്ച് പാടിയിരുന്നു.

ക്നായ് തൊമ്മന്റെ ചരിത്രമല്ലമാർഗംകളി പാട്ടുകളിൽ പറയുന്നത്. ഈശോമിശിഹായുടെ 12 ശിഷ്യന്മാരിൽ ഒരുവനും കേരളത്തിൽ വന്ന് സുവിശേഷം പ്രസംഗിച്ച ഭാരതത്തിന്റെ അപ്പസ്തോലനുമായ മാർ തോമാശ്ലീഹായെ കുറിച്ചാണ് മാർഗംകളി പാട്ടുകളിൽ പറയുന്നത്. അതുപോലെ മാർഗംകളി ക്നാനായ വിഭാഗം ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളുടെ മാത്രം കലാരൂപം അല്ല. കേരളത്തിൽ സുറിയാനി പാരമ്പര്യം ഉള്ള(സീറോ മലബാർ കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭ, സീറോ മലങ്കര കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭ, യാക്കോബായ സഭ, ഓർത്തഡോക്സ് സഭ) നസ്രാണി സമൂഹം മുഴുവന്റെയും കലാരൂപമാണ് മാർഗംകളി. എഡി 345 ക്നായി തൊമ്മന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ പേർഷ്യയിൽ നിന്നും കുടിയേറിയ 72 കുടുംബങ്ങളുടെ പിൻതലമുറക്കാരാണ് ഇന്ന് കേരളത്തിൽ ഉള്ള ക്നാനായ വിഭാഗം. മാത്രവുമല്ല ഈ ക്നാനായ വിഭാഗം സീറോ മലബാർ സഭയിലും അതുപോലെ യാക്കോബായ സഭയിലും ഉള്ള ഒരു ചെറിയ വിഭാഗം മാത്രമാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ മാർഗംകളിക്ക് ക്നായി തൊമ്മൻ ആയോ ക്നാനായ വിഭാഗവുമായി മാത്രം യാതൊരു ബന്ധവുമില്ല.
