Whisky.com reviews the Raasay Single Malt. This is the first Raasay from the island distillery's core range. Raasay is located on the small island of the same name between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland. For this single malt, smoky and non-smoky whiskys were matured in three types of barrels and then married together. On the coast of the tiny Scottish island, they mature in former rye whisky barrels, in fresh barrels made of Chinkapin wood and in Bordeaux red wine barrels. The special bottle design reflects the origin of the island malt: with its uneven surface, it captures the wild beauty of the Isle of Raasay.

Excellent review ! Thank you very much Ben ! It seems to be a solid product. I have looked in the SAQ, LCBO and BC liquors stores here in Canada and the Raasey from what I could see isn't available in our country. Perhaps The Whisky Barrell has it. Cheers !

The mix of 2 different malts and 3 cask types sounds like a carefully balanced harmony or something that did not work on its own, so mashed together....

A big part of our approach has always been about utilising a distinct range of casks and spirit types that can give us more control and complexity in our whisky. At the end of the day you can't beat maturation, but hopefully this shows that good distillation, long fementation times, high qulaity barley and a unique cask maturation can help bring a lot to the table in even our younger releases. This recipe has been a long time in the making! If you're ever on Raasay let me know, I'll show you the process in more detail!

You taste enough very good whiskies to know that this is nothing special .. Its Too young and too expensive for what it is ..IMO ...Hugely disappointing ...I really like you and your father , don't dispute you probably know your stuff . But PLEASE dont just don't sniff and quaff and say nothing by way of scoring the bottles , i know you have a monthly awards ..But if something is very good ..Say So and likewise if a bottle is Crap ...Please tell us , Like you i drink a lot of whisky ( have done for almost 50 years ) and this whisky at 3 years old , like most 3 year bottles is too imature and lacking to justify the spend !

What a massively pretentious thing to say. Every whisky brand has a core release and for a non age statement this is a very good whisky flavour whisky in comparison to a lot of those on the market. Also, make your own whisky reviews if you have such good ideas

@@JPeakman96 Jack , its not a "Massively pretentious thing to say " at all , its called "My opinion " and I'm entitled to it the same as you are , no need to be offended , plus as a 66 year old who's spent his whole working life dealing with every major distiller in the booze business and been sampling/collecting whisky for 45 years I'm not a complete numpty , equally as stated , it doesn't make me right either ....or pretentious ...Its just my opinion , yes young distilleries have to start somewhere and the offerings will mature and get better as their stock gets older , they're keen to get product to market as quickly as possible to kick start cash flow ...but sometimes IMO this very young liquid is not quite worth the high prices being asked IMO ...Have a good day !
