As the holidays are reminders of the lessons of everyday living of course. Put all the lessons of the holidays together and you get a good template on how to live all the time. Or else it (the individual holiday) would just be a cold regimented task, even idolatry of a sort, as the holiday would be worshipped, the day revered and not the lesson. Reminders? It helps them who want more than a mundane existence.

Perhaps the difference between the Arizal and the Vilna Gaon - fear and love respectively- can be reconciled in the following way: They are each referring to DIFFERENT CONTEXTS, because psychologists have known for a long time, that those two feelings are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE. You can do a simple experiment to prove that: try taking a step FORWARD (attraction, love), and a step BACKWARD (repulsion, fear), AT THE SAME TIME! It can't be done - OBVIOUSLY! So therefore, each one of those emotions must be referring to a SEPARATE ACTION SPACE, where only that feeling can be actualized. Hence the ABSENCE of G-D, or Nature, should be FEARED, while the PRESENCE of The Creator is described as LOVE of Him! This is all according to the prescription of G-D instructing the first man Adam, to choose LIFE, and reject DEATH.
