@oscarmccormack16116 жыл бұрын
@@Alex-mb2cy That's what the definition of a spectacle fighter is. Pure hack-and-slash games are like God of War and Dynasty Warriors, where no effort is given to massacre hundreds of enemies. Spectacle fighters, like Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising, give much more emphasis on the individual actions to defeat a single enemy, with finess and without taking a hit.

Fun factoid: Chernabog was originally planned to be the "big bad" and final boss of KH1 before Square decided to give that spotlight to Ansem. But people still loved the idea of fighting Chernabog, so he was kept. Also, "Night on Bald Mountain" didn't play in his boss fight in the original Japanese version of KH1, just the regular boss theme. That, along with the bonus boss Kurt Zisa, were added in the Western releases, and kept for the Final Mix versions.

My personal mention: Omega from Final Fantasy series. First, it is a high-tech looking robot in settings where your enemies are usually diferent kinds of magical beasts and all its abilities are supossed to be technological instead of magical. Second, it is a recurring foe through the series, appearing for the first time in FFV. Funny thing, in that game he is just wandering around in the level and you can even avoid the battle. Third, it is a ridiculously overpowered enemy, being able to wipe your party if you meet it unprepared. And you probably will be. Cue "what the hell was that?!" from the player. Fourth, there is actually a reason why it is a recurring boss: Omega is hunting another recurring enemy through dimensions (Shinryu). So yeah, this thing literally doesn't even belong in whatever world it is.

Somehow I would have thought that Giygas from Earthbound might have been here since the entire rest of the game is all cutesy and such. Then at the end of the game you are faced with this abomination that has an outline of a fetus in it. Also I don't think that Dark Link is too out of the game since it wasn't his first time in an actual Zelda game since he was present in Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link (Unsure of other outings). I do agree though that Dark Link probably would have made more sense to be a miniboss in the Shadow Temple as opposed to the water temple. But the water one makes sense as well since the idea is supposed to be about reflection so the other side of the coin I guess.

*Top Five Games that Refused to End* (Kind of how this suggestion refuses to end.) For better or for worse, there will always be games that, in one way or another, keeps the player invested through a myriad of content that it withholds initially for whatever reason, all without overstaying its welcome. Maybe the plot takes such a turn, that then it leads the player in a totally new direction; maybe two-thirds of the game is hidden behind that dragon you thought was the final boss. Although, I feel MMOs may not technically count; after all, those survive on staying relevant to your time.

Not so much games that "are too long," but games that just end up longer than expected through huge swatches of content hitherto unknown to the player. I'll admit that my description was entirely misleading, perhaps I should work on that. I'll give an example, it's one of my favorite examples in fact (Spoilers for Dragon's Dogma): So for the majority of the game, you're on an adventure to chase down and defeat a dragon that attacked your village, kinda-sorta "killed" you, and took your heart. You're spending hours gathering resources, working your character up, honing the fighting styles of yourself and your personal companion, all in anticipation for the big fight. And that's the thing: by all defined logic so far from there, killing the dragon is expected to be _the final boss_ of the game, where your journey ends and you can catch a break. While, when you get there, there's the option to just sacrifice [insert NPC selected as love interest] to the dragon in order for him to leave everyone alone, the most expected response is to fight him and win. And win you do! Except once you do, the entire world kind of starts...dying. Rapidly. It's unknown precisely why initially, but this is where the meat of the game is now: the world just got harder, a big fuck-off hole just showed up in Gran Soren, and you've got a mystery to solve! Enemies that used to be pushovers are now deadly new variants of themselves that can body even the most prepared of players. Very few players ever forget leaving Cassardis the first time after it happens, only to get *fucking curb-stomped* by Grimgoblins.

World Tendency from Demon's Souls, lol. You can play the game for 100 hours and still not know what this does, and yet it affects everything. Basically if you die, all the enemies in the area are invigorated by your souls, and they all get stronger. Die enough times, and they get extremely strong, and new enemies - black phantoms and primeval demons - will appear on the map, NPCs who were friendly before will now attack you(these are probably the hardest fights in the game) and enemies will drop more upgrade materials, plus different weapons and armour will be available to pick up. The flip side is that defeating bosses makes the area easier. Enemies get weaker and drop more healing items, and different world events will take place. I love this system. I was really sad that they didn't include it in Dark Souls or Bloodborne. The ability to make my game harder at any point is awesome. The extra enemies and events make the game more dynamic, and it adds another layer to the player-driven "gameplay-story". Sure, in Bloodborne and especially Dark Souls, you have a ton of options that can make your game easier or harder, but none are as appealing to me as the World Tendency system.

As far as #3 is concerned, this... wasn't the first time he was used to this extent... In the second game, due to the regular Big Bad being, well, dead, he was THE FINAL BOSS! A pretty cheeseable final boss, but STILL!

oh man i TOTALLY got hexagon brother vibes from the mad midget five. glad i wasn't the only person who felt that way. colloseum and gale of darkness are such overlooked and underrated pokemon games in my opinion... :( which is a shame because i love both of them. i mean, the eeveelutions are your starters??? instant love from me.

it's funny, people are always like "i wish pokemon were real" but let's face it, with all those legendaries, the world would have ended so many times... in all honesty, i'd be totally content with just having the eeveelutions. all of them. there are tons of non-legendaries that i'd love to have, but most of them are either aggressive and dangerous or, like absol, cause bad things to happen. (i don't think absol brought calamity, i think it was a warning but still foreshadowing's a btch)

Devil May Cry 4 - Window boss. UGH!! Out of all of the things in the DMC universe - bad ass samurai archetypes like Vergil, bad ass demons, Sparda - they chose to have you fight a freaking window with a health bar.

what about the optional boss in mother 1/earthbound beginnings in magicant where you can fight a fish. its never explained why the fish is there, the only role is to guide the onyx hook which the game never tells you about with any npcs. you just go through a hole and suddenly, fish.

Not sure Muffet's theme fits here (ironically), as she was kinda foreshadowed a couple of times before we actually run into her, the first time giving us an item that allows us to bypass her and not even bother battling her.

One that comes to mind for me is Dragon King Alcar, that one dragon that shows up out of nowhere towards the end of Xenoblade 1 right before you fight Dickson. You ring a bell and then suddenly a dragon that doesn't even look like it belongs in a Xenoblade game (or Xeno game in general) shows up and does a shit ton of spike damage and for some reason is more difficult than Dickson himself, and unlike Mario where Bowser shows off that game's dragon, nothing else in Xenoblade 1 acknowledges it. There are two other equally out of place dragons in the game (one of them being Avalanche Abaasy) but this one stands out because it's part of the story and happens right before the penultimate boss.

@rabbidluigi Would you (or anyone else) mind telling me what game the footage you use during the number countdowns (when it’s saying #5, etc) is from? The wings look epic!!!

You forgot to mention for Number 1: In later versions of Shinobi II, they changed Batman to Devilman, the main hero from a hyper-violent anime with the same name. At the same time, they acquired licensing for Spiderman so they can make a game about him (His credit is even in the very start before the title), but at the same time made the boss resemble him less by turning his blue spots black and removing the eyes. I don't get it either.

I think that the Mad Midget 5 is an homage to Jacker Blitzkrieg Squad, a Super Sentai made 14 seasons before ZyuRanger/MMPR Season 1. Their leader was named Joker and the shape of the other characters and names fall in line with said homage. Just watch the rollcall and you'll start to see it Rabbid
