Well to be fair in A LOT of games the main character is made into a blank slade character purposefully, if not an outright silent protagonist, and it is supposed to give better emergence for the gamer, so you can live through the character or. I do appreciate it though when you actually get to play as an awesome character like in the Yakuza games. Kiryu is the BEST! And heck, Majima is even better when you get to play as him ones in a while. Perhaps that could be a top five? Top five funniest playable main characters? Majima Concor ... erhm Lloyd Irving? He does have some funny comments. Leon from Resident Evil 4 is funny sometimes with his dry one liners... Though it is hard to think anyone on Goro Majimas level, he actually makes me laugh out loud in ALL the games he ever appeared in. I can't think of one single Majima appearance that wasn't fun, and he is a JOY to play as. So much personality, so much character. It is rare you get to play as a character like him.

@@CrasherX2000 Hey, how about that "vroom in the night sky" game both Rabidluigi and Angry Joe talked about and put on their list of worst games? I mean, Joe's review of that game mentioned that the game itself had hilariously bad dialogue, and the review of the game was also hilarious. And, plus, both Joe and Will, in their videos, compared it to Superman 64. What about Tont Hawk's Pro Skater 5? That was also hilariously bad, with it's buggy open world, and the glitches.
@CrasherX20004 жыл бұрын
Shawn Fields Pro Skater 5, to me from what I’ve seen, is just sad... (though I won’t lie, the glitches are absolutely hilarious) I’ve definitely heard of Vroom in the Night Sky The fact that this game got an E-Shop release is insulting to me
@shawnfields23694 жыл бұрын
@@CrasherX2000 I do agree that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 is pretty sad, as it was rushed instead of being properly developed, like we know it should've been, and was hyped up like no tomorrow, and the character models looked like they were out of an early build for a ps1 or PS2 game. But, poor Tony Hawk, he put a lot of time; work, and effort into a horrible game. It wasn't entirely his fault though. I mean, activision. Although, the crappy skateboard itself in Tony Hawk Ride was HIS idea. He legitimately thought the idea of a skateboard with NO wheels was GOOD. In an interview, he said he knew it was good, and that more people should've given it a chance. Like, no. I'm not even a fan of his or anything. I've never even played a Tony Hawk game ever. I'm not into sports games or skateboarding games. Though I have played WWE games BEFORE they were godawfully bad, like now. But, Pro Skater 2 had cameos from both Iron Man and Spider-Man, so that looked interesting to me, but I never got around to playing it. I just didn't feel like it. But, I agree, the fact that "vroom in the night sky" got ANY sort of release pisses me off too, dude. It's like a spiritual successor to fucking SUPERMAN 64. Superman 64 DIDN'T AND DOES NOT NEED a spiritual successor!!!!! It was terrible, graphically, it looked like an unreleased n64 game, and Angry Joe's video of the worst games of 2017 was how I first heard of that game. While I was laughing at how hilarious Joe and his friend were making the video, and how bad the dialogue itself was, yeah, it should've been CANCELLED. No arguments from anyone can change either of our minds on this. Despite how funny bad the game was, it should've been CANCELLED, the end. Another funny bad game would I guess be "The Quiet Man"? I mean, again, Angry Joe himself made it funny, so maybe it's just his personality that made it funny? Maybe this is just subjective? But, if there were a list for best story modes in fighting games, I'd suggest Soul Calibur 3 and it's "Chronicles Of The Sword" mode, IF someone hadn't already beaten to the punch on that. Same with "Subspace Emissary" from Brawl. So, I'm going to suggest the story mode from Dragon Ball FighterZ, the individual story modes of each cast of characters in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, especially the BlazBlue and Persona 4 character episodes, and the story from Persona 4 Arena: Ultimax or any of it's other releases. Because it combines the stories of the surviving cast of BOTH Persona 3 AND 4 TOGETHER, to help each other out. And maybe Tekken 5's Story Battle mode. Maybe Tekken 7? I mean, you have Kazuya and Heihachi fighting Akuma from Street Fighter. Not at the same time though. Heihachi fights him first, and then, in the special episode, Kazuya fights Akuma. After the end of the story itself. When Kazuya beats Heihachi, he then, THROWS HIM INTO A VOLCANO. Sure, in the first Tekken , he just throws Heihachi off a cliff, but Heihachi survived. But, in Heihachi's ending of Tekken 2, he throws Kazuya into a volcano. So, I guess he finally got his revenge in 7. Shit.

Top 5 Protagonists Who Deserve a Good Punch Top 5 J-Horror Games Top 5 Annoying NPC Comments Top 5 Worst Voice Actor Replacements (DW9 could definitely have a place on that one, too!) Ahh, Dynasty Warriors 9. I can still see the potential for what could have been a fantastic game, but I feel they just cheaped out on it. Recreating the entirety of Three Kingdoms Era China in a game, yours to explore at will, with all the battlefields and skirmishes in the appropriate locations? Yes! But Omega Force should have taken a page from RPG development-you have a long, open-world game, you fill it with lots of fun and memorable stuff to do outside the main story! The Koei Warriors games are known for their ham factor, so take advantage of that! Build relationships between the officers not by having them sit in your homes and chat at you; team up with them for silly and/or meaningful side quests! Have peasants needing help with something ridiculous and funny, or dangerous! Don’t just have us run around collecting stuff on horseback; have us go recruit new troops, or spy on the enemy in an indelicate situation, or deal with the aftermath of a battle! If they had just put some real thought into expanding the characters’ daily activities and the day-to-say stuff peasants and aristocrats get to put up with, they would have injected some of that memorable, campy, action-packed flair we love about the Dynasty Warriors series. Instead we got “Go here, fight some dudes, go there, grab some resources, go up here, take a base, go down this way, shoot some animals, and over here’s your battle and your cutscene. Rinse and repeat.” It was such a waste.

Actually the Dynasty Warriors open world idea has a lot of promise. I never played this particular game or actually know anything about it, so maybe they did implement some of this, but what they should have done is have multiple battles happening in real time regardless if the player is there or not so to force him/her to choose which would be more advantageous/vital to partake in, also the player should be able to intercept marching armies going to a battlefield in which a battles will start soon. Also something that would make the world much more lively is having to collect materials to upgrade weapons or even create new ones and having to go to towns and cities in which blacksmiths reside to do so, that would give meaning to the open world, as to become stronger the player would have to travel to multiple towns/cities.

Examples: Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia: When Heath is holding Keith hostage and tells you to give him the Yellow Gem. Keith himself is in no danger short of being bound and flat out tells you not to give Heath the Gem. However, if you listen to Keith and say no to Heath's demands, Heath mocks you, you're given the choice again, and you can't progress until you give him the Yellow Gem. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney: In the flashback case involving Phoenix getting disbarred, you the player must present faulty evidence while well aware it will ruin Phoenix's career. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass: When you're aboard the Ghost Ship, you have to find and rescue four sisters, even though they look creepy and you know something's up, which is they end up being the dungeon boss.

I looked into the development of Raven's Cry on Wikipedia. Apparently, Reality Pump Studios (the *same* exact devs behind Two Worlds) were actually handed the game to finish after the original developers failed to meet their deadlines. It was supposed to be a console release meant to come out sometime after 2011 (when it was originally announced).

Shit to do is not always the only purpose of an open world. Breath of the Wild proves this. Exploring just because you can to see the great scenery is also a viable and rewarding reason to explore an open world. Same schtick as in the real world, people like to see the view. Saying if there's nothing to do equals failed overworld, means you are ignoring a large percentage of players who like exploring just to experience it. I personally bought both Xenoblade Chronicles X and Breath of the Wild to explore their open worlds. Call them giant walking and scenery simulators, sure but that's why I fucking bought those 2 games. There is a reason to exploration in games. Do not discount it.
@Xegethra6 жыл бұрын
It is nice when there is stuff to do though, maybe it depends on the game. I liked Mad Max, it was a huge empty desert, the way it should be. It was the right size to make a believable setting and while raiding for scrap in most places was quite boring I did find it fun to go blazing across the map in one long car chase. Getting wrecked and making a pit stop, getting back in the car and causing more havoc. The hand to hand combat was lame, and I wish they didn't force it on you that much and I'd have rather that when you leave your car, the enemies don't....them getting out lead to too many tedious fist fights, I'd rather fight back with my shotgun as they try to drive by me. Fist fighting would have been nice if they didn't make you do it nearly as much. But yeah I do think large maps with little in them are good for that type of game, usually though I think the more the merrier....unless it's a game that piles copy paste activities on you then I equally switch off as if there wasn't enough to do. I don't often see the point in exploration unless there is something to explore for, looking nice can only hold it so much. Then there are cities....I want stuff to do in that city, I mean it's a city where people do stuff...not some field where activities are limited. And there is making the city big enough, some "big cities" are laughably small and are no bigger than a rural town in some counties backwaters rendering it barely believable. I tend to prefer cities over countryside/forest/desert. People complain about cities saying everywhere looks the same too many buildings but I would argue how many trees does it take before you say that about a forest? To me the outdoors areas are all the same, even emptier and often bigger...at least a city has districts to vary it, a field has a different colour grass, whoopee. I know I'm being a bit too harsh, but the complaint that cities are samey is a funny one to me when literally everywhere else is even more samey. That's not to say there aren't some boring ass cities though, because there are but the concept alone isn't. I'm...getting sidetracked. Open worlds are nice even if I am beginning to distance myself from them, kinda had my fill. These days I do tend to find them more bland than I used to.

The best part of Two Worlds is the speedrun for it. See the game is coded to run the ending when the final boss dies, and he so happens to be outside of the first village at the start of the game for story reasons. Well if you aggro the villagers onto him, they will swarm him with so much damage that he will fall over dead and triggering the end cutscene. Go give it a watch it's only a few minutes long and hilarious.

I like MGSV’s open world because the open world is there to enable you to approach a location from several angles, and it rarely expects you to cross the whole map. Furthermore the areas that would have nothing are inaccessible so you go around them and run into content. Each mission and activity drops you near your objective and pulls you out after your complete, cutting out the hour of walking between objectives. It supplements the stealth aspect and cuts out all the things that would work against it

Dynasty Warriors already had a great open world entry. It's called Dragon Quest Heroes II. (Made by the same people) I guess you could say it isn't open world as they're more like loading screen connected worlds, but I'm gonna say it's an open world. Filled with monsters to slash apart, nice little landmarks, random objectives, hidden goodies, and boss monsters to defeat! What more do you want in an open world? Plus, since it's an RPG, too, it's really fitting and enjoyable.

Open world games: you can either make them tons of fun with a crapton of things to do, or boring canvases of space that just make you feel like you’re thrown into an empty box. These games definitely fit into the latter. I've played that two worlds game to as near 100% completion as any sane person could get and I can tell you that you didn't even scratch the surface for how awful that game is. Permanent stat increase potions. How the hell did they think this was going to work out? It's even worse than the morrowind potion shenanigans because unlike that game these was an intended feature. Oh sure, the player can just stuff some beaver fat, fox livers and bug-man eggs in a bottle then gain more stat increases than what 100 levels could give them. That sure sounds balanced.

I totally agree with you -- open world games can be fun, but there's no reason for every game to have that feature. A lot of my favorite games are pretty linear -- there's some exploration to find goodies and see what the devs have cooked up for backgrounds and such, but you have to do things in a certain order. And I'm fine with that! I get my "ooooh, pretty world" fix just finding ammo, health, and Easter eggs, I don't need much more. I want more freeform gameplay, I've got The Sims.

Final Fantasy II It did the same shit as Two Worlds, only 19 years earlier, where you can TECHNICALLY go anywhere on the world map you want right from the start, as long as you can somehow avoid getting one-shot by insanely overleveled enemies for daring to take even one step off the intended path.
