The problem with Skyward sword comes from the exploration, how it lacks that tool of fast travel, and Fay being worse than Navi in almost every way.

The dweller mask has this problem in A Hat in Time. It lets you turn green things (mostly platforms) solid at will but at the cost of turning purple things nonsolid. It only lasts a few seconds & has to recharge after use but can be cancelled at will. This should lead to tricky platforming sequences & puzzles but, outside of mods, it's usually just used to occasionally toggle a random platform thrown into a level for no reason & you can usually easily jump past the platform without toggling it.

@MasuxAnderson4 жыл бұрын
I'm with ya there. Speaking as someone who enjoyed Zero and thought the game was fun, I have a hard time going back to it when I have 64 3D available to me whenever I want to, wherever I go. And since 64 was already a reboot of the franchise after one release it only made this seem more redundant. All they need to do is take Assault's ideas and execute them in a way that's easy to pick up and play and is very well balanced between ground and air missions.
@Volvagia19274 жыл бұрын
@@MasuxAnderson I mean, just making a pick up and play thing (an improved Assault, essentially) would be one way to do it. But: Star Fox isn't their most big deal franchise, at least as it currently exists. I think a bigger swing might be what is needed. Keep the space dogfight stuff and make it as good as possible, that's a great element, but, for any ground based gameplay, I'd argue that it needs to be closer to a slightly more arcady playing "Furry Mass Effect 1." Y'know, a heavy focus on cohesive world building, dialogue and skill trees, but without the deeply dated cover shooter combat. There's an underserved market for that kind of space RPG, and Star Fox is absolutely a franchise that, with the right effort, could FILL IT.

Phantom Hourglass's temple of the ocean king was amazing because every time you returned to it you could find new ways to skip puzzles and floors. If you kept repeating the same puzzles then you clearly didn't get it. Nintendo has a disconnect with gamers about quality versus innovation. The best example of this was Miyamoto's genuine shock when fans were asked what franchise they'd like to see done on the Switch and F-Zero was on of them. Miyamoto's response was "That's surprising to me - I feel we've already done everything we can do with that franchise." They get so fixated on the old 80's Toy Company ideology of "NEW! FLASHY! I don't think Breath of the Wild's weapon/shield durability is a problem. At first, I hated it, couldn't stand it. But after several hours it started to grow on me. Looking back I see it as quite beneficial to the game. It adds a new mechanic to combat that I quite enjoyed. I do think it could have used some more different styles of weapons though. The one big problem I saw with Breath of the Wild was lack of enemy variation. 90% of the game is comprised of fighting Moblins, Bokoblins, and Lizalfos. They come in a lot of pretty colors that amount to little more than a difference in health. It feels like every enemy in that game is one of those three creatures. I think they needed to create 4 sets of three enemies and have one for each distinct region of the game. Even if you take into account ALL of the enemies, it's still nothing really. Add skeleton versions of the main three, bats, blobs, Octo things, three guardian variations, and that's 99% of the entire game. Oh, don't forget the three mini boss type enemies Lynels, big stone things, and giants. There is a lot of variation for each, but it isn't enough to make them feel distinct. They all feel the same with a different color. I actually sopped playing about half way through because I got so bored always fighting the same things. I took a break for a month and two and then went back to finish it.

As an old Star Fox player I sunk countless hours into the franchise since the first game, but Star Fox Zero is definitely the best one in my opinion. After I've completed 100% of the game I could really understand what the developers intended with it. I've loved this game since I first played it, but it only grew on me with each stage and route. Amazing graphics and sound, very responsive and fitting controls (yes, I've said it... it really is a "get good" type of game, but I actually found it to have really simple and intuitive controls for every vehicle right after the tutorials), unmatched levels of immersion with the gamepad features and interactions that made me feel like I was in that cockpit, and also that even the Switch nowadays couldn't do (the dialogues coming from the gamepad alone gave me the same kind of sensation that the rumble pak had more than decade ago). It also has awesome characters, clever co-op, varied missions/bosses and a second re-imagining that still felt fresh. Oh, and also a nice little game bundled in the package with Star Fox Guard! It is just an overall well polished game and I really don't understand what all the bashing towards it is about. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love SF64, but in my opinion Zero is miles ahead of every game in the series and it's a shame that because of this unfair mixed reception we may not get another great Star Fox game (at least for quite some time). Star Fox Zero really felt like a step towards a bright future for the franchise, but most people seem to wear those nostalgia goggles too much or don't realize that this game asks the players a kind of "special way to get into it". Stop expecting games to hold your hands, guys!

Marco Araujo Star Fox Zero was literally just Star Fox 64 with terrible controls. I feel like you’re giving it way too much credit. People might’ve not liked Star Fox Assault and *especially* Star Fox Adventures, but at least they tried new ideas rather than playing it safe, and didn’t try to “innovate” in the most lackluster way possible. People wouldn’t have minded the controls so much if they were just optional rather than shoved down your throat with no choice whatsoever. @amirgarcia5476 жыл бұрын
TheBlueLink3 Don’t get me wrong, I actually like Rex as a protagonist and feel like the Xenoblade community gives him too much of a hard time...but the writing for his character can be inconsistent at times, causing him to make some pretty questionable decisions. An example is agreeing to do a job that he knows nothing about with a bunch of strangers. Next is recklessly charging headfirst into fights without any regard for the outcome. And the last is entirely giving up just because Jin said some mean things to him, and then after getting yelled at for a few characters and becoming motivated again, not apologizing for his actions or thanking him for giving him hope again later on. Then again, the first two could simply be due to how reckless and naive he is. It’s only the last one I find issue with, which’s by far the worst scene in the game in my eyes due to its piss-poor execution. Though if not him, I’d have Corrin replace him instead since they’re twice less interesting and make twice the amount of questionable decisions.

Being a bit reckless actually fits his character pretty well. Yes, he took the job without all of the details, but he was going to be paid a lot of money and it was a pretty big operation. There wasn't really any reason for him to suspect something was going to go wrong. He didn't give up just because Jin said mean things to him. Jin was fairly right in what he said, and was really the culmination of everything that was bringing Rex down. No matter how hard he fought, he couldn't stop Torna from killing people fairly close to him (especially Vandham), and Pyra kept getting hurt too. He even says at the end of chapter 5 that he is still weak even after all this time. Rex blames himself for not being strong enough. Honestly I find the scene where he gives up to be one of the strongest moments in the game. To see someone who has kept positive the whole time give up is pretty depressing. Perhaps constantly slapping him added a bit of unintentional comedy to the scene, but the fake out where Poppy doesn't slap him but instead comforts him makes up for it. I'm not going to say the execution was perfect, and some nuances of the scene could have been better, but for the most part it's a very strong scene. I'm not going to say Rex is a highly intelligent person, but he doesn't really belong on a list like that. I'm not sure who this Corrin is that you are referring to. Corrin from Fire Emblem?

I say I kinda disagree with him on this, I don't think battlefield fans are necessarily wrong to be upset about a franchise that has stayed close enough to real life events has now decided to fudge up history with putting women in British army on the Frontline with cyber punk hair, and prosthetic limbs. I mean it's 1 thing to make an entirely new ip, or even just say "this is an alternate universe" I think it's another to make the same ip, with a main game in the series as been numbered to all of a sudden go in a quirky new direction. It'd basically be like if the next gta came out but all of a sudden everyone was a space alien.

I *knew* Mass Effect was going to be on this list. I loved the first trilogy, and replayed the first two games multiple times until I finished ME3. I haven't touched them since. That's how badly the ending hit me. They promised a complex ending where your decisions would matter, and each decision made would affect the galaxy you left behind in a different way. What we got was every decision amounting to a positive or negative number, and no story closure for those decisions, and the ending boiling down to A, B, or C, which is exactly what the Bioware devs promised it WOULDN'T be. Would it have killed them to write epilogue cards for each of the factions and characters, like they did for Dragon Age: Origins? On a tangentially related note, I didn't hate Andromeda as much as everyone else seemed to. My gameplay experience was actually pretty stable. I didn't run into any of the game breaking bugs that other players seem to hit constantly, and I actually thought it was kind of cool to see all the allies you made throughout the game show up in the final battle. I'm just bummed it ended on a cliffhanger that will likely never be resolved.

The real question, does anyone who has played Phantom Hourglass, actually like the Temple of the Ocean King? Also can I rant about that game a little? I got that game on my ds and in the begining middlish of the game there's a part where you have to call out to someone using the mic. The problem was my ds's mic was broken, which usually wasn't a problem because most games don't use the mic. When I finally got a 3ds, I was happy to finally get to actually play the game. And it turns out that is the ONLY time ONLY time the mic was used in the entire game. WHY? Not to mention the game is pretty mediocre so the entire thing was disappointing.
@Aweman116 жыл бұрын
I actually kind of liked the ocean temple, the idea of new items allowing you to skip portions and get through faster appealed to me. The sequel however, truely had something that ruined an otherwise great game. The pan flute. Those rhythm games between each chapter were borderline unplayable. I was often out of breath trying 30 to 40 times to play that unresponsive instrument. I had to give up during the final battle just because I couldn't get past playing the song.

weapon durability wasn't a bad thing in breath of the wild, it was a logical choice given the system in which you get better gear. especially with how open the game is, you could just run straight to the best chests with the best gear in the game (which those chests are mostly the same items in them every time), and have meta stuff for the rest of your play through, in like 1 hour tops from running to each chest. if there was no item durability, the game would just be broken, straight up. the reason a system in a final fantasy game like having no item durability works is because of the fact there is plot lines you need to follow and things preventing you from progressing too wildly for the sake of game balance and so that the game doesn't become too easy too fast, before the games finally throw the real open world at you, and the game has many ranges of levels of creatures and zones and dungeons. breath of the wild... doesn't really have that, it doesn't take long to get all of the abilities that are solidly required before you can do everything in the game and access everything, so the balance to such ridiculous amount of freedom is item durability. (its either that or deal with a BS amount of grind and RNG and forge recipees that take an unrealistic amount of resorces to satisfy, take your pick, Item duribility or all 3 of those other things at the same time) the only other option is if it were made a typical zelda game, which at that point, would go against the purpose of what breath of the wild was supposed to be, a "different" zelda game
@D_YellowMadness6 жыл бұрын
I thought I'd hate the weapon durability system before I played the game because it sucks in most games it's in but I actually ended up liking it. It would be nice to have a shitty weapon that never breaks & doesn't take up inventory space though. It sucks to run out of weapons when fighting an annoying glacier of an enemy who came out of nowhere.

I'm kinda hoping they go whole hog on the gimmicky control schemes, just to see what kind of insanity they'll think of next. Even without motion controls, Star Fox Zero would be a bad game. It's re-remake, the third time the original SNES Star Fox story is told. It relies solely on nostalgia pandering and does nothing new to the series. Everyone can hate Assault all they want but at least they introduced a new villain, replaced Peppy with Krystal, made Star Wolf cease-fire with Star Fox to fight a greater enemy and overall the characters seemed to have grown up a bit. Characters talked like actual people instead of throwing cheesy one-liners for the sake of nostalgia. And they tried to balance out the on-foot and arwing sections, but didn't quite get it. Trust me, the motion controls are least of Zero's problems.
@thetadpoleprince22506 жыл бұрын
I would've disagreed with you IF Nintendo didn't officially release Starfox 2. Now that that game is part of the series now I do think Zero is the most forgettable game. My personal issues with assault are it's very short length, imbalance of flight and on foot missions (Most levels are either all range or just on foot) and clunky controls for the on foot parts. I do believe that Assault is the step in the right direction Star Fox needs, and honestly I think all they have to do is actually progress the story and refine the mechanics of 2 and Assault then we could have a solid game.

I actually liked the Temple of the Ocean King. You can mitigate the time limit entirely just by staying in the safe zones where phantoms can't see you, since it also freezes the timer you're on and allows you to plan your next move. Also even when going through floors you've already visited, the items you've acquired make it easier every time, giving you a sense of empowerment. The ultimate sense of empowerment comes later on when you can kill phantoms and discover that chests spawn when they're all wiped out like any other Zelda enemy.

What are you talking about? The game is worth $20 bucks now at my local game store, I can't speak for other places though. I honestly really liked the controls in Zero, it was the most innovated use I have seen from the Wii U Gamepad, and I really liked the fact that I had to switch between looking at two screens, it made me more aware and ready, and if I died, it was because it was my fault. Not the game. I will say that the game can be frustrating, but I honestly found it easier to aim with motion controls than with another stick.

Rabidluigi and a few other KZbinrs with a descent number of subscribers already MIGHT be able to afford this, but many smaller European KZbinrs will not. So you mean to tell me this is the only place in the World of the Ocean King that has maps of the whole area? The sailors in here must have it rough. I'd give the Tower of Spirits in Spirit Tracks the same shit for doing the same exact thing, but A) It's actually more justifiable within the game's universe, B) It's not nearly as repetitive as the TotOK and C) Solving puzzles with the help of Phantom Zelda is actually a ton of fun.
