Since you brought it up, Top 5 Games Rabbidluigi Struggled with as a Child
@ninjapanda4546 жыл бұрын
Here's an idea for a top 5. Top 5 "greatest" games that actually kind of suck. Number 1 would have to be final fantasy 7. As someone who grew up with a ps2, when I bought ff7 on the ps3, I couldnt believe how bad it was. Terrible graphic, terrible clunky controls, an F'n timing based stealth section in a ps1 jrpg that follows immediately after a section where you do nothing but fight wave after wave of enemies, characters who exist solely to get an emotional response from you when they die, and no not HER, I mean all those characters that die for no good reason and contribute nothing to the plot. Also an insanely high encounter rate INSIDE the city. Isn't there a barrier that keep monsters out, why can I go LITERRALY 5 steps without getting attack. I just cant understand how people can say this game was the greatest game of all time
@snbeast95456 жыл бұрын
1. 1997, on the PS1, and they weren't that bad. 2. What's wrong with the controls? 3. a. They give you plenty of explanation of what you should be doing. b. Correct me if I'm wrong, if you get caught, you only have to fight. 4. a. Biggs and Wedge are traditionally non-characters in the FF series. They were similar in Star Wars, where they originally came from. b. FFVII's core theme is the value of life, which it teaches you through the deaths of Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie; Tifa's dad; Dyne; and ultimately Aeris. So yes, it makes total sense to have characters that exist only to die, because how else are you going to teach the value of life, except by killing people off? 5. a. The encounter rate wasn't that high. b. It's not like you get encounters in the populated areas, only in the deserted areas where you'd expect them to be c. You're in the slums, a place where no one higher up cares about you, demonstrated when President Shinra ordered the destruction of Sector 7. Everything you raised up were minor nitpicks anyway even if they were valid, not whole game-killing.

SNBeast SNBeast SNBeast before i address your arguements i need to say I dont consider this a bad game for it's time just a bad game compared to modern games. For it's time it was a decent game but that's not what I was trying to argue, I'm sorry if I didn't make it that clear before. People say this is the greatest game of all time. Thats what I'm disputing. I saying that compared to the hype it gets from fans it's not all its hyped up to be. The greatest game ever should mean that the for the time it came out in it was good arguement doesn't apply. Were talking greatest game ever not greatest game for it's time. The greatest game ever has to still be better than even modern games. Graphics, story, game play, music, character development, and the world the game presents to the player. All of these have to be taken into consideration when talking about the greatest game ever. Now I'll discuss your criticisms of my previous comment. 1. For the graphics I dont mean the cinematics, I meant models. At best they're passable for the times, at worst you cant even tell what your looking at. The shinra tower is where I first thought to myself "what the hell is that supposed to be" I literally had no idea what the polygonal red mass was supposed to look like. 2. if I'm remembering correctly X was back O was confirm square or triangle brought up the menu and I think when the menu was up start would quit the game. So going from modern controls to that, this was my experience. I tried to bring up the menu like normal, with the start button, didn't work so I hit all the buttons till it worked. Then when I was in the menu I tried selecting items with X like you would in any modern game, it exited the menu, I went back into the menu, figured out select and back are reversed in this game, then after finally selecting the antidote i needed i hit start to close the menu and was asked if i wanted to quit the game out of panic and reflex I hit O to back out but instead I accidentally quit the game and lost all my progress. 3. It's not a matter of not knowing what to do. You go in an elevator fight wave after wave of enemies that look like blocks red blobs. then are forced into a mandatory timing based stealth section. And no you dont fight if you fail you get sent back to the start. And technically you have to do the stealth part six or eight times, twice for each party member, then they add another guard, the guards move faster and you have to do it six or eight times again. That is not fun. I fail so many times I just quit the game and never came back. 4. You just contradicted yourself, you said that it's okay for the filler resistance members to have no real character or development, no lives outside of being those resistance member that died pointlessly, then said that the game is teaching you the importance of life through their deaths. A character's death only has weight when they had a life to lose. Look at any good movie for proof of this. When a main character dies it sad and depressing but do you really feal anything at all when some random background extra dies get killed during some major chaotic event. If you want to teach the life of life through a characters death give that character a life to lose. Show us hes more than just that one really fat resistance guy. Show us his life outside of the resistance. show us his friends and family show us more than just some cheerful fat kid. I'm currently studying to be a game designer. One of my classes was specifically on how to write game stories and character, there was even a chapter on to kill off characters. Finally I'm not trying to say these things ruin the game I'm just saying ff7 isnt the greatest game of all time. Modern games have better controls, the npcs have their own lives and feel alive, stories are just as good if not better, graphics are way better, cinematics are better, in every way that ff7 is said to be great, there are modern games that have done it way better.
@snbeast95456 жыл бұрын
Your control issues are coming off of modern Playstation games, whereas FFVII, originally going to be an N64 game, switched over to PlayStation in the middle of development. Having the right (O) button as Confirm was usual in Nintendo games, and still is. Similarly, even modern games still map the menu to the top button (triangle) instead of Start, like Pokemon (where it's mapped to X, the top button of Nintendo controllers). And having Start in the menu quit the game is convenient and makes sense (if only I had known that!). But a huge issue with you criticizing the game is that you haven't even played it. Midgar is only the beginning of the game (and near the end of it, but you haven't gotten near that far). You shouldn't criticize a game you haven't played all the way through (unless it's bugged so that the game cannot be completed, like that Xbox port of the game I can't think of off the top of my head). And I can't believe that someone got stuck THERE. I had to be unsure of what happens when you get caught, because I and everyone else I've ever seen play the game gets through first try. I guess you're either really bad, or incapable of adapting to the sensible controls. So, please, play the game before critiqueing it. Something I shouldn't have to say.
@ninjapanda4546 жыл бұрын
SNBeast I played the game on ps3 shortly after the ps4 came out. So games still used the start button as menu. Also your right that i shouldn't criticize something i haven't played, that why I only criticized the first disk, the part that I have played. also I think I did get past the stealth part eventually it's just i cant really remember much from after that part so i ended my criticism there. And I didn't have trouble on the first half, it was the part with two guard going twice as fast, no matter what point I tried going at they always seemed to catch me. But yeah I definitely got out of midgar I know that, but by that point i was just bored with the game, even overlooking all the problems with the first part, the game just didn't live up to the hype, by the end of the first disk it just felt like an average jrpg, and I'm sure your going to say that it gets better the longer you play, that the game get way better later on, I already know that, but I dont care, I played the entire first disk, as a student studying game design I cant call a game that take that long to start to get good, a good game. In game design, if the game take one quarter or even one fifth of its story to get good and drag the players in then that's considered a failure. And this isnt a matter of me not liking jrpgs with long drawn out stories, I love ff9, but even ff9 had an exciting beginning. Other than the prologue what really were the highlights of the midgar parts. The honey bee in part was mainly fetch questish missions with a mildly exciting climax, theres a bit a fighting in the sewers but nothing that really lives up to the prologue, theres aerith and cloud getting chased by guards, still nowhere close to as exciting as the prologue, then theres the shinra tower part where you stand in an elevator for half an hour fighting waves of enemies, then a stealth section, and I dont remember what's next, the most exciting part is when the disk falls. In ff9 while their wasn't all that much going on, it was consistent, it was a proper slow burn. Ff7 has an awesome prologue a few slightly exciting but mostly boring stuff, then then sky falls and kills thousand of people, youve got to admit the pacing of that is kind of bad. I'm not saying the games terrible, I'm saying it's nowhere near the greatest of all time and has a ton of minor things and a few major things that need to be fixed. The first disk was average to above average.

You want a ludicrous optional challenge in Pokemon? Try Zero Isle South in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. It's a 99 floor dungeon that forces you to go in without any partner Pokemon, any items, any money, and, oh yeah, you have to start the dungeon at level 1. Not to mention that the Pokemon get to be as high as level 98 on the final floors. And don't think you can recruit the powerful Pokemon in here to help you, because the Pokemon here have no chance to join you. Oh, and no Kangaskhan rock rest points, so losing means you start the whole thing over.

dusknoir64 oh dear god... I'd forgotten about PMD's bullshit 99 floor lv1 dungeons... didn't Sky add an even more bullshit Zero Island challenge though?
@dusknoir646 жыл бұрын
Actually the one added in sky, Zero Isle Center is only 50 floors long, and it's challenge mostly comes from everything being in the 90 level range, aside from some level 5 Togepi and Clefairy wandering around for some reason, and that's at least something you can overcome with grinding.
@Dr.Deluxe6 жыл бұрын

There IS a more bullshit challenge in Explorers of Sky: Destiny Tower. It has all the same restrictions as Zero Isle South and is just as long, but has even more restrictions and challenges on top of that. All your IQ skills are disabled, so Reviver Seeds are useless. Every floor is covered in intense darkness, and there are Random and Grudge Traps too. Grudge Traps are the worst as they put Grudge status on every Pokemon on the floor AND warps them too your location, and if you use even ONE move on them and KO them, that move's PP drops to zero. Grudge also never wears off so your PP is basically guaranteed to be fucked unless you find the stairs quickly.

The Demi-fiend fight was described pretty well, but unlocking that fight and preparing for it is arguably even crazier than the fight itself. To unlock it, you first need to beat the game and do New Game Plus. Then, you have to beat the penultimate boss of the final dungeon, choose not to pass the point of no return, and just flat out leave the dungeon. Then, with no hints whatsoever, you need to go to the basement of one of the first dungeons in a game and enter a completely random room. Then, boom; fight starts. But the best way to prepare? Oh boy. The way stat distribution in this game works is that you control the protagonist's stat growth, while the other party members grow stats based on their preferences. One favors physical, one favors magic, etc. There are items that permanently increase stats, but these are only grindable late game, and some are much easier to grind than others. Thus, it's actually best to do a solo run of New Game Plus with the protagonist. Buff up the hard to grind stats through levels so you can grind for the easier stats. Once every character's easily grinded stats are maxed out once you beat the penultimate boss and do hardcore grinding, then you put the characters you want in your party and start grinding levels and skills. Finally, once you're in the best position, you MAY have a chance. Oh, and the reward for doing this? Nothing unless you import save data with him beaten to the second game, which triggers an accessory in the penultimate dungeon that boosts all stats by 10. Sounds good, but the final dungeon contains a ton of superior accessories if you want to do those superbosses, and grinding stats is much easier there. Speaking of which, the second game has another stupidly hard superboss that functions more like a giant puzzle that can still wreck you, can only be fought on Hard Mode (which requires either New Game Plus or clear data from the first game), is a giant reference to a game that to this date has never been localized, and has absolutely no reward for beating it.
@Ritokure6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I think Rabbit undersold it a bit. Not only there's the crazy preparation, but he didn't even mentioned, for example, that the Demi-Fiend is *completely immune* to every attack type except three (Earth/Gun/Almighty), or that getting the "cheese strat" of Null Sleep is by itself extremely cryptic and optional content. To this day, I have no idea how anyone could ever beat this guy without a guide. I think of Demi-Fiend less of a boss and more like a collaborative team effort for masochists around the globe.

Celeste C-sides are the first thing to come to mind. It's already a tough game, and it already has ultra hard secret levels in the B-sides, of which I played one then didn’t bother with the rest because I nearly broke my Switch in half. Then I learned that there were even harder, even more secret levels beyond the B-sides called the C-sides, which _doesn't even make sense, cassettes only have two sides,_ and looked them up on KZbin, and I think the devs just like had a really bad day when designing those levels and wanted to make people hurt as much as they did.

Luckily the only c side that's super crazy hard is the chapter 7 one. Some of the c sides are a little easier than the b sides as they are so much shorter. I did something similar once with FE7, using only the three lords. It gets quite tough in those last few chapters before any can promote, but it makes some sense, since you're giving them all the stat-boosting items you typically have to spread across an entire party.

I'd say Paper Jam is potentially harder since those bosses have much more brutal tactics and the secret final boss is absolutely bonkers unless you cheese him with special cards. Not to mention the recommended levels you need.

ShycoWar I dont know. Only recently have I beaten Antasma X, and he is probably the most challenging boss i have ever faced. Paper Jam, however, for me, was a cake walk. The cards really help and when you know what to use, you can be several levels lower and still beat the arena.

I thought Braska's Final Aeon was a great ultimate boss for the story (considering Yu Yevon is much like the sephiroth mind fight in ff7, in that it is unloseable without killing yourself, and as such is less of a "final boss" and more of a battle cinematic send off to the game), and a much better fight that Seymour Omnis.

Sure. I find it hard to imagine, though. Atlus pour their hatred into some of these fights(Other than MAYBE some super bosses I can't think of a Square Enix boss that could give some of the Beelzebub fights a run for their money. And while a regular nutcracker Beelzebub is hardly the worst offender through the series). No wonder they have their own "That One Boss" section in TV Tropes.

megagutsman Lucifer is a tough one, but he can't counter most of the overpowered strategies that you can use in Devil Survivor (which there are quite a few). Demi-Fiend is noteworthy due to the fact that he DEMANDS that you play by his rules, or else. Not like he tells you what those rules are, mind you, you're just expected to figure it out or die.

I saw some Goldeneye footage at the start. Did you know that if you beat every level on 00 Agent difficulty, you unlock 007 mode, which lets you give enemies custom stats? One challenge called DLTK (Dark License to Kill) involves turning up enemy health, damage, accuracy and reaction speed to their maximums. Most enemies require 10 head shots to kill, and can kill you in one hit. Many levels can be completed in a few hours of attempts if you use careful or clever strategies. Dozens or hundreds of hours of attempts are required to complete the hardest DLTK missions, like silo or train. I strongly recommend checking out some DLTK runs, as I believe it is the most difficult completed challenge in gaming.

City of Heroes had an alien raid boss named U'kon Gr'ai, which is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the way enemies are presented to the player. The color of the enemy's name indicates their power relative to yours, so you can "consider" their strength. Something that "cons" red is something to watch out for, while something that "cons" gray won't actually aggro unless you attack it without killing it. To U'kon Gr'ai, "you con gray".

Top Five Game Demos. Demos that not only had good gameplay, but even incentivized you to try it before the game launch proper. Obviously PT would be on there, but other good ones could be Bravely Default (could be played 20 times when most 3DS demos can only be played ten times, like 6.5 hours long, gives you items to carry over to the game) and the just-released Octopath Traveler (instead of items, you can get a full three hours into the actual campaign and carry that save over).

Megamean09 Instead of Bravely Default, I'd put up Bravely Second, as it's not only a demo, it's a unique story prologue, absolutely not necessary but can flesh out two particular characters for the story later on. All in all it can be about 8 hours if you do everything. Dialogue is enjoyable, gameplay is trademark Bravely fun, you get a taste of some of the new jobs, etc. I know Rabbid hasn't exactly played B2, but that hasn't stopped him before TBH

The Secret Boss in Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion would be a good honorable mention. Inner Agent 3 has roughly double the HP that you do, cannot run out of ink to shoot, has a weapon with the fire rate of a Splattershot but the range of a Jet Squelcher with the Dualie's Dodge Roll, borderline perfect accuracy, spams Specials like a Splatoon 1 hacker, and has Autobombs with double the range that they normally do. And if you die during any of the FIVE phases of the fight, you gotta redo the whole thing. Have fun!

Idk, it seems like there's a capable strat for Demi Fiend (and also being lucky). Mysterious Figure in BBS is actually just straight luck because it's so poorly designed.
@Ritokure6 жыл бұрын
Kingdom080500 Yeah, the "capable strat" for Demi-Fiend can still fail because one of his lackeys literally spams a _party-wide instakill every single turn_ which you can't be immune to, because as Rabbid said if you're immune to it, then Demi-Fiend himself will spam _HIS party-wide instakill attack every turn,_ and you can't be immune to THAT one. The most efficient tactic that relies less on luck is probably Red Star, which exploits the low MP of one of Demi-Fiend's lackeys' to make him lose turns. That strategy took _years_ to be fully developed, and it's STILL luck-dependant because you need to survive Demi-Fiend's instakill attack once. It all boils down to what you think is worse: A boss that is poorly designed so he's almost impossible, or a boss that is expertly designed to *be* almost impossible?
@scissorman446 жыл бұрын
"it seems like there's a capable strat for Demi Fiend " There isn't. Well, at least not an infallible one. You're at the game's mercy with the luck factor. And no, Mysterious Figure requires mad timing but it's still viable(SPECIALLY with Aqua).

In terms of RPGs, I thought that the Hardmode Dreamy Giant Battle Gauntlet Medly was a pretty tough challenge in Mario & Luigi Dream Team. You have to fight all giant battles in the game back to back, on a strict time limit with no healing items. This challenge demands nothing but thirty strait minutes of perfection. You have to successfully counter every attack, Dodge almost every attack, perfect every attack (most importantly, specials, which randomly generates excecution methods.) and must react properly to every match changing situation. The cherry on top is the sheer amount of time it takes to defeat these bosses. Like seven minutes per boss, and assuming that you mess up, it's back to the start. The worst part is the Motion Controls that come up with the Zeebird battle. It sucks having spent 20 minutes getting up to with no damage taken and just getting one shot becuase you were playing in an unlight room so the 3DS can't detect your input. The harshest part is, it's all skill. The giant battles don't take into consideration Luigi's Gear or Stats. It's always the same pattern, same strategy, every time. Goes without saying, but the reward is coins. Just coins and a thumbs up. The trophy doesn't even look that cool, but man do you also get some serious btaging rights for clearing one of the hardest Mario Challenges. I put this as the very hardest Mario Challenge from the Mario RPGs. As people point toward the exploitable pit of 100 trials or tough boss fights that can die in a turn if you just grind to a higher level, there is no beating the Hardmode Giant Gauntlet if you lack the high skill that it requires.

In Tales of Berseria, there are many "code red daemons" that you can fight. They're like minibosses found across the different areas. One of these code red hunts has very little health, but negates and reflects damage from ANY element. The most sane way to beat it is to change the difficulty to Simple where weaknesses and resistances are completely taken out. But unless you're willing to swallow your pride, the only way to beat it is to grind for equipment that comes with the effect of a chance to reflect damage back, then HOPING it happens whenever your party members are hit. Also, if you beat the postgame dungeon, you can go back and beat a powered-up version of the final boss. And there's a postgame boss that has a chance to revive every time it reaches 1 HP. And another postgame boss that will unleash its ultimate attack on you if you try to use an item in battle.

@Megamean096 жыл бұрын
True, you could say they didn't, but you could also say they did. The only addition SMG2 saw was slapping in Yoshi. Take any two mainline Assasin's Creed games, and there's much more significant improvements than that. AC2 makes the original look like a rough draft. Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy was a lovingly crafted game boasting some of the greatest platforming ever, with an interesting new character with a tearjerking backstory, whereas its "sequel" had no soul and was blatantly slapped together to make a quick buck. No unique backstory, no effort in disguising how it's the same "Bowser kidnaps Peach" plot as always (at least SMG1 made it feel a bit different than usual, even Rabbid did a bit on this). It had no soul.
