5: Actually I believe you can beat the game in the censored version. Nimdok allows you to be very cheap, since he knows the code for the bridge. This allows you to beat the game with only him. But you can also use the other four to take the long way around, needing you to sacrifice 3 of them to finish it up with the 4th. It is very difficult though, as you have to know exactly who to pick in order.

As a german I want to add one thing to the Nazi censorship: the law was not REALLY lifted. The problem with videogames was that they are not considered an art form by law. Art is allowed to show Nazi symbols. Any 12 year old can watch Indiana Jones no problem over here, because movies are art and thus have the freedom to show the symbols. That didn't go for videogames however, which lead to a lot of censorship by removing Nazi symbols - simply because they HAD to. Another thing that is very safe to assume is that many instances went a lot further than necessary. You mention how Hitler's moustache was removed - that is an example of that. The law bans the depiction of any Nazi symbols. So no Swastikas or SS Runes etc. But it doesn't ban the depiction of Hitler himself. Many games like for example The Saboteur just completely removed the word "Nazi" from the script. So in Germany you were not fighting the Nazis, you were always fighting "the Germans". Or in older Wolfenstein games you were fighting "The Wolves". All that was NOT required to be done by law however. The law only required the removal of any "anti constitutional symbols" (it's a german term I can't 100% properly translate). What happened now is that basically there can be made an exception for video games by our equivalent of the ESRB. While before they simply HAD to index any game with Nazi symbols in it regardless of any context, now they are allowed to pass them through. But please note, "can" and "allowed to" - they don't simply HAVE to. They can still reject a game based on the symbols if they feel like it (and boy, how they feel on a day is something that could fill a whole video on it's own).

I have a Power Rangers Samurai game on my DS (I have no idea where it is now), and in one level (to get the Water Ranger) you have to jump a gap. But, just like the TMNT problem you described, it was too big, and not passable. But the wierd thing is that, when you fall in the water at a specific part, you wouldn't die, and instead continue to fall below the ground into a glichy, colorful mess, with collidable objects being invisible and scattered. I managed to perfect the fall, and the path through the glithy maze to get as far as possible, hoping to find a way up, but of course there was another impossible jump, except it was invisible, it wasn't even supposed to exist in the first place, and there were green, red, and blue squares all over the screen.

When I was a small kid we went on a family trip to Italy. One time we went into a bowling house that also had an Arcade room in it with various games, it was beautiful. I decided to play Metal Slug 2 with my brother and we made it to the boss of the 2nd level, the one where you climb up an infinitely tall tower, while there's this giant robot-claw "eating" the tower from below. I swear, we were shooting at the boss for like 15 minutes and it just wouldn't die. It felt like the boss was immortal and had infinite HP. The boss' attacks were quite easy to avoid and we didn't die very much, but we still eventually gave up because it seemed like bullshit. It was a very bizarre moment and to this day, I wonder if that was some kind of bug or if the boss was modified for this specific Arcade version or whatever

For the Master System, a game called "Bank Panic" exists. Basically, doors open and if a robber is behind a door, you have to shoot him, but if you shoot a civillian that can pop up behind a door, you lose a life. Also, when a robber appears, a timer shows up that count's down to 0 (it's when the robber starts shooting), and when you hit him at the exact time, you get bonus points and what not... and if you shoot him too early, the game just mentiones, that it was "unfair". Well, here is the thing: With every new level, the timer till the robber shoots gets faster and faster. If you reach level 12 (I think), the door barely opened and you get shot. And remember, you just can't shoot wildly, cause you might hurt the wrong people. But there is absolutely no time to identify what's behind the door... so basically, level 12 or so is the end. The game itself goes further, but if you reach level 24 or so, the game just crashes cause nobody is expected to come this far.

Space Station: Silicon Valley is another interesting example of this. While it's possible to reach the ending through normal means, it is impossible to achieve 100% (and unlock the secret bonus stage) without cheats. A bizarre oversight by the developers makes one of the hidden trophies unobtainable. You can make the trophy spawn, but you can't collect it. You just pass right through the thing. They somehow forgot to give the trophy a hitbox.

Okay, I’ve had an infuriating time with a game made unbeatable by issues with my copy specifically. So with that...Final Fantasy XIII. At one point, I decided to buy the whole XIII trilogy on a whim, and I was surprised to find I actually liked the first game. Sure, there were some places where a cutscene would freeze up, but I’d still be able to skip it and move on. Then I reach the elevator to Edenhall, the final level after I’ve already left Pulse, and the issues give me an eternal loading screen. I actually like the game, and I get denied right at the end.

The English version of Ar Tonelico 2 deserves a mention due to a game-breaking glitch in the penultimate boss fight. The game will crash on the boss's 3rd turn, due to one of its attack's name being too long. The SNES version of Smash TV had no Pleasure Dome, but instead had a surprisingly satisfying ending where the MC is revealed to be mastermind and you get to kick his butt in a much harder reskin of the Mutoid Man boss!

I bring up this game all the time, but the semi-obscure GBA port of Earthworm Jim 2 (not the first, though that one's bad too) has several glitches that prevent progress. The boss of level 2 often won't spawn, leaving you stuck in the room, and the goalpost in the hot air balloon level doesn't activate, so the timer will always run out. It was a mess.
