Love, love, love this stuff!! I am a complete newb and Jason has been immensely helpful for me. This, I'm afraid, is a rabbit hole that I have started to go down.

Man, the Dareringer all day for me. It's literally one of my favorite sippers. There is so much dark fruits taste in it that make it so unique and fantastic. Not hot at all, just really good. I also have a bottle of the special founder's release. That bottle is on a level that can't be matched. It should be, though, for the price.

Stunningly beautiful distillery as well. Very nice people, too. Toured it a few weeks before they opened and met Kaveh, master distiller, and architect

The Rabbit Hole review I’ve been looking for. Solid, honest review. Definitely needs to age a bit but will look to pick up the Cavehill even though the price does not seem to equal the finish. Cheers
@catman320002 жыл бұрын
I didn't get as much youth out of this as he did, but I also sampled a year and a half after this review. Maybe their ages are creeping up? They claimed 3-4 years on the Cavehill, 4-5 years on the Heigold and Boxergrail. I have discovered that higher malt content helps hide some youthful notes as well.

I’ve only tried Heigold and Dareinger. Both very good. I do love the sherry cask finish and I loved wheaters.

Thanks for the review of all 4. I, like you have looked at these bottles for a couple of years. I think I will try your top 2. Was on a spirit site, read up on Covehill and thought, I've never seen a review on this. Thanks again for the info.
@thedrinkpro4 жыл бұрын
Definitely worth trying another of their Dareringer cause they make pretty small batches and I had a very different experience than you explained here. I do agree that the Heigold is up there as one of their most consistent pours.

Thanks for taking the time to go through the core releases. I’ve had the Cavehill, which was solid. Nothing too complex, an easy drinker for sure and quality. I’d be interested in trying the Rye next. The sherry finish might need to be sampled before a purchase for me.

Nice honest review. Very much appreciated. I saw all 4 of these on the shelf last night and passed knowing the review was coming. I do agree that the price point can be an issue. However, I will purchase all 4 in the near future and come back to taste along. Cheers!

Ok so I just got some Cavehill, it is almost exactly what he said. I'd have to say that Cavehill is my choice, no gag reflex and it truly is pleasant. This is definitely worth a go!

This is a great video man. I think this is the type of content a lot of us need and want to see. I mean, this is like Consumer Reports for whiskey. I don't know how many times Ive passed on Rabbit Hole. I haven't seen it being served in a bar where I can try it and I don't feel like investing $60-$80 for something I might not like when I can get ECBP for the same money and it's 12 year barrel proof. Keep grinding out content like this man...Im kinda tired of seeing reviews of stuff that is unavailable and expensive. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Cheers!

We did this vertical tasting with Adam from Rabbit Hole (who is amazing by the way) on one of our live shows and agreed with your rankings almost to a T. Pricing is an issue, i wonder if they would consider doing a mix pack of small portions for a cheaper price point to expose people to their product more. As always, amazing video. Cheers!

I agree. Thats a good idea. Maybe with the new owners prices will adjust.

Thanks for putting out this video, man. I've always seen these on the shelves here too and wondered about them...I think the price and lack of knowledge kept me away. Might have to pick one of these up after a couple bottle kills. Cheers!
@benbernthal46594 жыл бұрын
That’s one of the biggest challenges with craft whiskey. Either you source and have to charge higher prices because of the middle man (ie MGP) or you do it themself and have to charge more for a younger whiskey. It’s hard to justify the bigger expense when companies like WT or OF exists and are on the shelves everywhere. Great review!

Thank you Mash and drum for this review, I bought the blue bottle/ Rabbit hole about 3 months ago, 1st time buying it, was surprised iand didn't know what to expect, dropping 46.00 for an unknown bourbon, but it was not bad at all, pretty tasty

Late to the party, but glad I watched this video. Have been debating picking up a bottle of this stuff, but like you mentioned the price point is high. Its a great looking bottle and label, which caught my eye. Great video!

I didn't get that out of the sherry/Derringer bourbon. I got more of a caramel butterscotch note and flavor. Great video as always. Merry Christmas.

A vendor hosted business event at Rabbit Hole in the Overlook. It was a great place to do something like that. We did a tour and tried all their bourbons. Cavehill was my favorite with Heigold coming in a close second. I lean toward the high wheat bourbons, so no big surprise as to my favorite. Highly recommend the tour and a visit. Great venue for a business or social gathering.

My pallet is not close to yours in sophistication. I drank the black label for the first time tonight and I thought Woodford Reserve too. Not super complex but very easy drinking, does not fight you. A good intro for beginners at a party. A crowd pleaser? At least for people that are open to spirits. I get a lot of honey, vanilla and oak and pepper on the back end. I am 63 but I am still learning. Thanks for the review.

Boxergrail, for me, is all caraway and dill. I love it. The mustiness on the PX bourbon goes away a fair bit after that bottle gets some air, but that one never did it for me.

Thanks for this review Jason, plenty to digest here. Their prices did jump up 10-20% post acquisition, seems like the Heigold is the safe bet with a little more age on it. Merry Christmas!

I literally just tried a sample of the Dareringer last night for one of my scoresheets after the sender insisted I try it. Having tried Glenmorangie Lasanta and Wild Turkey Revival beforehand and getting significant sherry funk from those, the Dareringer was a nice change of pace. I wish it was my first exposure to a sherry-finished whiskey, it was very approachable. I think its youth and use of wheat mixes well with the sherry influence, and I'd say it's helped me see how well young whiskey can be executed in the right hands.

Great review Jason I especially loved the B roll. I have tried the rye and the PX sherry and I loved them both. I haven’t had the chance to try the others. The price point is much lower here at my local Total Wine. $65 for the PX and $44 for the rye.
@catman320002 жыл бұрын
Just toured the distillery last week and I rated them Cavehill, Boxergrail (so nice to have a 95/5 rye not from MGP), Heigold, and Dareringer. All were good to very good. They also sell a gin at the distillery that is aged in their used Rye casks. It is out of this world good. I kicked myself the whole trip home for not picking up a bottle.

I was just thinking that a great comparison review would be between Larceny and Weller Special Reserve, and maybe Larceny barrel proof and Weller full proof, since they seem to occupy a similar space from their respective distilleries.

I liked the “Derringer” but that’s the only one that I had tried. Finish the bottle in a couple days we did. But did you notice how many sips he took? like he liked it , but just was unsure ?
