The more subjective the concept, the more complicated and difficult to handle it becomes.

A female British Member of Parliament once declared that "someone with Chinese features could never be mistaken for a Pakistani - they would only ever be Chinese!!" (sic). In that single, unintelligent, bigoted statement that MP (herself female and Pakistani), dissed every child born to Pakistani/ Chinese parents. That is one reason why equating ethnicity solely to race or skin colour is dumb.

Why do some of the people in this video just say "black" or "white" but go into detail of what Kind of Asian or other race they are? Very few if the "whites" said they were Danish or German or Italian and etc???

TriniMae Our Race is Human, our Nationality is United States Citizen - American for short, my Ethnicity is American, because NONE of my family came from Africa, and Black is NOT An Ethnicity, that's BS. I'm not "African-American" OR "Black-American", those identities are reserved for people who ACTUALLY came from Africa.

@Carlos Martinez telling for your username I'm guessing your Hispanic and I know how you feel as a kid I never really identified with the others enthicity (Indian and Portuguese) mostly cuz I looked straight of the bat black and white but I did many of times get mistaken for black and Indian and black and Hispanic but once you get older you start to accept all of your ethnic backgrounds

I can't find a single article on-line that lists all the races in the world. All i can find is that apparently there are 3 major races: Negroid, Mongoloid, Caucasoid. And all races on earth are the result of interbreeding between these three. But surely there must be sub categories right? Anyone have extra info on this?
@thegigadykid16 жыл бұрын
shaz ferouz scientifically there are 3. According to Darwin there are 5 for me there are 7

If we analyze the human genome we will see that we are one race, with small differences observed in the different population groups that make up the human species, and that the differences between individuals that are part of the human species/race are , biologically, a result of the most different processes of natural selection that have occurred on these groups throughout the world and times, and of course the cultural aspect - yes, the human is a cultural being - which reinforced these distinctive external (physical) characteristics, attributing to them a value judgment - good/bad, right/wrong, better/worse -. Brains, in this process, develop plasticity and different neurophysiological functions in these individuals, but they continue to be brains of the "homo sapiens" species and of course, it all depends on what you mean by "race".

That's a nice video. I rather like the professor. The emphasis on the idea that ethnicity isn't just self-identification, but has an objective component is commendable. Speaking of which, I am quite glad that personal genomics companies can now offer relatively cheap genetic tests. That should put an end to inane family legends according to which every second white American is part-Amerindian.

Race is a social construct. For example, while someone of European ancestry may perceive someone from India as non-white, someone in Africa may perceive them as "white", while someone from China may perceive them as "black".

Race is just a figment of the human imagination. These divisions are kind of unnecessary.
@fakeneim10 жыл бұрын
yeah dude, dna is just a figment of human imagination, right?
@ultradevon0410 жыл бұрын
fakeneim what is the objective definition of a racial category in the biological sense? If you don't know or don't have one, any notion of race is arbitrary and primarily a social fabrication. There are biological differences in populations but that too is arbitrary because there is still no distinction on when a group becomes a so called race.
@fakeneim9 жыл бұрын
I understand, maybe my first response came as too satirical and agressive. what I was thinking was in fact that there's no need for such 'divisions' but they are a fact. having better dna for some sports is a fact and it does not matter if we exagerate or not to put a label on it as ethnicity or race or whatever, it's still a fact.
@matthewwrafter81598 жыл бұрын
+fakeneim I know you wrote this a year ago, but please don't make assumptions without doing your research to back them up. Not only is there zero evidence to suggest that blacks are born better athletes than whites, but there is also ZERO biological basis for race. These divisions are not "fact", as you say, but are fluid and change all the time depending on how people want to categorise.

whether one born is black white rich poor us citizen or Chinese is 100% accidental. it's therefore completely ridiculous to give any significant weight to a fact based on an accident. it is much more important to treat everyone with respect rather than using a measure which is entirely dependent on a fluke.if I give a simple example. what if I was born to Trump's parents exactly at the same time as Trump and not a twin! Would I be Trump? would people treat me like a morally bankrupt person? or would I threaten to blast the earth into oblivion?
