Race Breakdown: Incredible Battle With Katelyn Tuohy And Krissy Gear At 2022 Penn Relays 4x1500m

Isabel Van Camp the first leg Arkansas lead off runner, the youngest of the four set the rest of the crew up by running a great race. In the insane alley start she found her self in the middle of the pack and simply circled it by running almost 2 lanes wide for an entire lap and then making a kick that passed Samantha Bush who had also fought her way through the pack of runners. A 4.16 minute opening lap is outstanding in this event. The rest of the team was able to run for the most part in the inside lane making only two passes because of how North Carolina State chose to organize its attempt. I have no doubt that if North Carolina State had a little more depth, Arkansas's runners would still have won the race as the experienced last two runners had the ability to run a few seconds faster than they did.Krissy Gear for certain had a couple of seconds in her tank, but the foxy lady knew that if she was in second place she could measure Tuohy and out kicker over the last 2 or 3 hundred meters.

I think Katelyn shouldn't have immediatelyovertaken Krissy after catching up with her. She should bided her time because catching up took a lot out of her.

Well we can see that now. But I think Krissy tricked her into thinking she was running out of gas, when she wasn't. Katelyn is just used to passing people and leaving them behind, and thought that would happen here. Smart race by Krissy.

@@drslyone They showed the splits at the end, Katelyn ran 4:09 while everyone else was slower. Just too much ground to make up.

​​@@James_Lindgaardgreer used that to her advantage by tempting and yes letting tuohy waste energy and pass her, I think so she could draft her until the end, and at the end she nit tuohy would be left with a lot more energy to pull away at the end, she was still pulling away at the end. Remember she to can run 2.09 like tuohy. Here strategy won over speed as tuohy had to use a lot of energy to catch up and pass early. She could have easily ran 4.09 as well, but that would have gave tuohy the advantage to draft until the end but with more energy to kick at the end. but she had a specific game plan and it worked as a team sport and she won. Now maybe its would not have worked if they both were in a single race starting at the same time without catching up.

@@Tigerex966 I remember this race. There was simply too much ground for Tuohy to make up for. Geer didn't need strategy because she had such a head start on the final leg of the race all she needed to do was to pace herself. she was running 375 meters and she had about a 20 meter head start, maybe more.

​@@wymple09she has strategy she let her pass knowing she could ok you her at the end and by drafting she would have more energy and speed both women are equally fast. Its not always the fastest section time that wins but strategy and late kick.
