Race to World First Recap: Day 2, Broodtwister Tougher than Expected!

Today has been the first of likely many days to render Dratnos and Tettles' predictions from the day before entirely wrong! Broodtwister Ovinax has survived the entire day of Liquid's onslaught, with more than 20% of its health remaining.
Dratnos and Tettles discuss the difficulty of the encounter and the history of Liquid's attempts to overcome it, with a third tank coming in to alleviate some of the pressure, and the fourth healer coming out to make room for more damage!
The chances of the race going over the first reset have increased dramatically, with both Dratnos and Tettles now predicting that outcome, though Dratnos thinks there's a chance Echo will be able to kill Broodtwister during their 2nd day.

The passion Dratnos and Tettles have for the race is infectious. That part with Dratnos pulling up the progression graph felt straight out of a prime time network TV football broadcast. I hope these two can be the Romeo and Juliet that ends the blood feud between the quarreling Poddy C and Bench families.

As someone who has tanked raids before. It’s good to have the tanks sweating a bit. It gets very boring doing the same thing just tanking the boss swapping moving it to the same places all the time.

They don't really have anything left to gain from splits or M+ though, not until next reset. Splits aren't just an infinite source of character power.

All their characters being used have done their splits, they need to wait for reset to go again.. and m+ is also limited in how many crests u can get and the gear itself is fairly gated by even the heroic crests to upgrade etc. They can't really do more this reset.

I really don’t see how you could think this was a one reset tier. Broodtwister health, court mechanics and numbers + fight length on queen potentially makes it a 2 reset tier imo, if no nerf

yeah if brood is like this court very likely is going to be super tough. i think they were optimistic on one reset because it's only 8 bosses

Say broodtwister and nexus princess instead of being 75+ pulls individually are 75 pulls combined. Then you need like 500 combined pulls in 5 days for Silken Court and Ansurek. There’s definitely a world where that could’ve happened.

Dratnos you didn't mention that boiz didn't upgrade their gear yet and got some crafting to do, so there is plenty of room to boost survivability and dmg but they refuse to do it so boss is not overturned. They are undergeared on purpose tho it shouldn't be nerfed yet.

What's with the difficulty curve this tier though.. first 4 bosses (half the raid!) being entirely too ez on *every* difficulty, then a brick wall. I mean, I like a mid-tier wall as much as anyone, but I do wish the first 4 weren't barely bosses.

I think 2 and 4 were solidly difficult, 2 was definitely a struggle for a few groups I joined, and 3 was easy on most difficulties but I could see being a struggle for a lot of guilds on Mythic.

Yes - WoW world first requires creating and gearing multiple characters per player, most of which won't be used in the actual mythic race. The amount of degeneracy farming M+ and Heroic splits is not something a "normal" guild has the resources for. Getting the equivalent of 3-5 weeks of gear on every character in 1 week is impossible without a ton of helpers and multiple hundreds of millions of in-game gold every tier.

I can see this Broodtwister coming down to which guild has geared more frost DKs. Max was half joking yesterday about wanting someone to bring a fresh lvl 80 DK. Looks like Echo will be running 4 of them.

Even in HM for more casual guilds Ovinax damage on tanks is abnormally high compared to any other boss in the past 3/4 expansions. It's just one of the many consequences of trying to release the expansion faster than before. Balancing is getting out of hands, there's a lot more bugs across the board than usual and enemies are quite all over the place too in terms of difficulty.

As a healer Ovinaxx was the perfect fight for me. Frequently forced to do big raid heals and periodically forced to do heavy tank healing. Had the most fun in years gameplay-wise trying to pug it on HC in the first week.

Echo doesn’t stand a chance in a fair race against Liquid. Liquid has Max, who is a hung alpha. Echo has no hung alphas. They lack leadership.

As someone who tanked all last xpac I have to say - so far the boss design from the tank's perspective has been a lot more interesting. The taunt swaps are more interesting. The debuffs are more interesting. I was a little concerned about tank design going into the expansion but I feel like they really did a good job with raid at least.
