These women are really saying that White women should be blamed for the bad behavior of White men? The misogyny is unreal. Rape is endemic in India. Will Rao take responsibility for that?
@dsmith6035
@dsmith6035 Жыл бұрын
Actually, that's NOT what they're saying. They're saying - stop being silent when you see White men doing these things, because your silence is what allows for the behavior to continue. If my child is consistently stealing things from a local 7-11 and I know about it and say nothing...then I'm complicit. It's not my fault that he's stealing (well...arguably it could be) but it's my responsibility to say, "Hey...stop doing that." If White women were silent about EVERYTHING, that'd be different. They're NOT silent about a Black man jogging through their neighborhood, selling water on the street, sitting in their cars, moving into their neighborhoods, etc. That's where the term "Karen" came from. They let Black and Brown people get away with NOTHING! So, don't be quiet when you hear and see racism toward Black and Brown people. THAT's the point they're making. Many Holocaust survivors were most angry with Germans who stood by and did or said nothing to help them. You clearly had Germans who drank the Nazi Kool-aid and actively participated, but the vast majority of German citizens sat idly by and watched it happen, because there was BENEFIT to their silence. Not just skipping death, but reaping the benefits of being held in higher esteem than a full group of people, jobs, access to property being taken from Jews, etc. That's America. The violence of the few is sustained by the silence of the majority. No one's voice can be heard louder to someone committing wrong-doing than a sibling, parent, or, spouse. Say something. Over 70% of White people in this country live in All White neighborhoods, know and understand that if they're living in an upwardly mobile All White neighborhood (based on property size/value) that Black or Brown people moving in will "reduce the value", send their kids to private schools that are predominantly White and SIMULTANEOUSLY deny that race has anything to do with it. That's exactly what keeps those systems in place. Those of us who point out racism in most things that are economically based in this country are the problem.
@MsBrendalina
@MsBrendalina Жыл бұрын
@@dsmith6035 White women couldn't own credit cards until the 1970s and marital r@pe was legal until the 1980s. But sure. White women always had the power to end racism forever simply by commanding their men to stop being racist. 🙄 Again, if you think its the women’s responsibility to call out bad men in their group, why isn't Rao being asked to do something about all the sexual violence in India?
@dsmith6035
@dsmith6035 Жыл бұрын
@@MsBrendalina First of all, stop with the Whataboutisms. The situation in India is DRASTICALLY different in terms of power dynamics. The only thing that's similar is that both places were colonized by White people. Furthermore, deal with what's actually being presented and stop changing the argument. Absolutely NO ONE is saying that White women are the "reason" why White men are racist. The women in the video are saying that because White women are benefitting from the oppression of non-White people, there's less of an impetus to change it. Furthermore, White women often oppress - that's where the term "Karen" came from in the first place. Amy Cooper who called the police on a Black man who simply asked her to put her dog on a leash. We're talking about power dynamics that are based on race here in America. What woman in India can call the Indian police on a man who ISN"T A RAPIST at all and get that person either locked up or killed? A White woman call the police on a Black man, make some shit up that isn't real, start crying, and when the police come, that Black man could LOSE HIS LIFE - in 2022!!!! That's what Karen's do. Their power isn't the same as White men, but their interest in stopping the abuse that comes from White men toward non-white people isn't there, because they benefit from it as well.
@MsBrendalina
@MsBrendalina Жыл бұрын
@@dsmith6035 Amy Cooper is still living in hiding due to death threats while Christian Cooper profited from threatening her in a secluded area. So maybe you should think of another example. LOL You speak as if obnoxious "Karens" are out there murdering POC every day. They aren't. They aren't the reason systemic racism exists. But they get all the blame (while White men are left off the hook) because women are easier targets and more compliant to guilt trips and bullying
@dsmith6035
@dsmith6035 Жыл бұрын
@@MsBrendalina Sigh...you're exhausting. The Amy Cooper point was only utilized to make a modern reference to the power White people hold over Black people in this country. But you KNEW THAT! Men who rape women are often held accountable too Ms Brendalina. That doesn't mean there isn't a culture of demeaning women that needs to be addressed/changed!! It definitely doesn't change the fact that we live in a male dominated society either!! The exhausting part about racism in this country is that White people KNOW EXACTLY WHAT they're doing when they deflect. You KNOW the point I was making about Amy Cooper. You KNOW that I was talking about what White women have the ABILITY to do to Black people NOT that White women are running around killing Black people in droves. You KNOW that absolutely NO ONE is saying that White women are the cause of White men's racism. I already made the point about a child stealing from 7-11 with silence from the mom. The silence enables the behavior to continue, but isn't the cause. White women have their OWN racism to manage as well!! The point was about power based on race that only works in one direction. You know...the point you're avoiding. My suggestion to you would be to read their book like I did. What you're accusing them and me of doing is not accurate, but is typical.Their message is to women because they have lived experience as women as well. Everytime a White man is called out, he employs the same tactic as you did: We're not the only ones who enslaved people, we're not the only violent people, we're not the only people in leadership who exploit others, etc. It's classic Whataboutism. They'll say anything except address what they're being accused of. You're in a long line of people who do this. Many commenters on this video are doing the same...finding something tangential to shut down any thought about the message. Why are they only addressing White women, for example. Then, you get to deflect the message away from yourself about you being complicit in your silence, protecting your benefits as it relates to racism.

You can’t combat institutional racism on an interpersonal level. It uses the same logic as telling marginalized groups to “pull yourselves up by your bootstraps”. If you could talk white supremacy out of existence, then it would be gone by now. Turns out that this isn’t effective. In addition, the wording and misunderstanding demonstrated by these two as to the concepts they talk about in this video is laughable. These are words with meaning, not meant to be thrown around without understanding. It’s saddening, because there are some things they say that are correct. The idea that white women’s feelings get priority is true in many cases, but mostly because they are viewed as objects to be maintained. It’s why r*pe allegations against black men (from white women) have historically lead to linchings, but accusations against powerful ceos (in spite of race) are disregarded. The idea that being black automatically gives you a better understanding of race is foolish. I’ve met and been friends with many marginalized people who don’t believe in the concept of systemic racism because they have personally not experienced it. Am I to value their experience over the empirical research I have read? Or am I meant to find the “correct” voice to listen to? How would one determine who the “correct” voice is? I myself am part of a marginalized identity, as I am neurodivergent. I have not faced the same level of discrimination for my identity as many others have. Should I assume my own experience may be more applicable knowledge than research that a neurotypical person may have? This is all to say that the approach that these two take is not only fundamentally flawed. Besides, if someone already is sitting down for this discussion, then they are unlikely to have as many issues with race as people who won’t. It’s why the worst things they’ve heard pale in comparison to the tales of real activists. This is misguided, and is not going to help oppressed people.

Why not lecture black women and middle eastern women where the majority of all violence stems from? Hmmm, that would be contradictory of their own minds being enslaved and make them take accountability for their inactions and not speaking up when uncle or brother is selling drugs and gang banging in the neighborhood.
