Great to see the younger pro drivers appreciating older race cars.

I raced against those Greenwood Corvettes in the 70s. They were very fast, but we got them under braking and outlasted them thanks to our Porsche RSR's reliability. John Greenwood was one of the nicest guys on the IMSA circuit.

Awesome! I think I watched you race. Laguna Seca 75 or 76? As a C3 owner I was cheering for Greenwood but I always appreciate Porsche race cars. Back in the 70s I felt more of a kinship with the drivers, teams, and cars, and felt the race track belonged to me and all race fans. I still enjoy racing but its not the same.

@@beyond_the_infinite2098 Yes, there was huge excitement when IMSA started and a lot of camaraderie among the teams, drivers and fans. John was at the '75 Laguna IMSA race. but wasn't entered in '76. In '75 John qualified 8th after the first heat, then came in 9th in the final. Won by Stuck's BMW, followed by the RSRs of Keyser, EFR, Gregg, Holbert, Dyer, Kemp, Busby, then Greenwood in his Corvette. In '76, Laguna was won by Holbert, followed by Gregg, Keyser, Dyer, Busby, Gunn, Mass, Shelton, Baldwin and Frisselle.

THIS is what a widebody is defined as. MY GOD, those tires! I loved this era of US race cars where aero consisted of skirts, a widebody, a huge splitter, and maybe some underbody. No giant wings, no insane downforce, just sticky tires, a good driver, and the race.

Other cars have a widebody too

I think this car was clocked at 252mph in 1988. That is before the Mulsanne was broken into 2 sections

A question I really like the body of this design the Greenwoods came up with, Its my favorite Corvette design. Now today i own a 2014 C7 as you stated you drove the C7R I want to ask if you think we can rebody my C7 as a tribute to the Greenwoods work. I know the wasp waist is not possible, but the front and rear could be replicated with a 75 Rear Bumper and black chrome mesh on the sides. Adding the edges and the rear front fender vent larger and more open, then a hood to take us all back to the 70s. The LT1 has 11.5 to 1 compression what would it take to get the Monster motor idle and rip and roar with a Greenwood cam and style mod the doors I think fenders could be maage for a bolton kit with exhaust and cam change for the sounds of Greenwood speed and a gob more torque & HP to make it north of 500HP. Normally aspirated. Why Not, Who can do it, Who would be willing to do it. I would sign up fo the 1st Kit. Dennis

It was a 600ci, 1,000hp monster, that's what it really was.
