Raceroom heading into 2023! a review, buy it or bin it!

I just stared raceroom and i was hooked. I did a practice session with the shopping karts and im completely sold. This ans AMS2 are my def favs now.

Good video, very thorough. The main feature i like about raceroom is the championship mode, it has more customizable options than most sims, and the ai is also better than most. It has everything i want, except night. Re: Player base, Sector3/KW Studios knows they're better off focusing on their local player base and having Oceania and Americas as peripherals, they can have more success with less investment, and being a small team they don't have a lot invest with. There are active communities outside of Europe, (AusNz, CASS -formerly NARR) but it's mostly private server races/championships now. The old ranked weekly endurance races used to be a main feature, but the start of 2022 had a lot of stability issues on ranked and private servers, game crashes were common, then the weekly endurance races were moved and then eliminated. A lot of players lost interest in the ranked races and moved on to other sims, or only race in private servers, or offline. Since the Americas servers don't get used as much it doesn't make sense for raceroom to keep running them, making them focus even more on the European player base.

i stopped playing racing games when i moved from xbox to pc in 2018 (apart from Wreckfest, but thats just to have a laugh with friends). recently i been wanting to play a racing game but we are in the middle of getting ready to move house, so i dont want to dig old xbox one out and let it update for 24hours, so i looked into the sims on steam. i also promised myself to get a racing wheel once we move and can afford it as i got assetto corsa on steam sale at xmas. so looking into the cost of each, this game will probably so for me and i already have motorsport manager. you are one of the few to do an in depth video about all of the parts of the game which i really appreciate.

I bought the premium pack, Raceroom is totally worth it, I’ve left iRacing and recently I’m finishing up my ACC league and spending more time in Raceroom. Hands down, better. I don’t race a ton in open lobbies anyways, full of terrible drivers in any sim you drive in, iRacing and ACC public lobbies are full of dive bombers, I do league racing, and there’s plenty of that in Raceroom. My latest league is in 2016 DTM cars, wow, amazing cars, amazing sim!

Great review. The other really important consideration with Raceroom is that it is probably the least resource heavy of all the Sims on your PC, especially if you're running older gear, which allows it to perform really well.

Good review mate, agree with it all, Raceroom is great sim…the adaptive ai is class after a good few races, the new content is great especially the Praga..I came from console to PC 3 years ago just for ACC…never play that now it’s just RF2 or Raceroom…if I had to choose one it would be Raceroom. And the ranked multiplayer is great. Win win👍 good shout about VRP, it’s hard work to find out how to buy it but saves a fortune! Great sim imo

Good review. I really enjoy the sim, although for the last year it’s been randomly crashing on me, but I did manage to complete qualifying & an hour long race at Watkins Glen earlier this week (only realised it was 60 mins after qualifying). Unfortunately I don’t get much chance to race when the servers are at their busiest and I notice at times that there are very few options to join a practice or qualifying session as they all seem to be racing at once. The sessions need to be spread more evenly. Interesting to hear that you’re faster in VR. It’s the same for me and the difference is night & day but I’ve never been able to work out why. I’ve subscribed and will be checking out more of your videos. All the best to you.

Another good thing is in Raceroom is there adaptive ai it’s outstanding for single players

I’ll be buying the pack. Great overview of RR. I think you’re right, if not a graphics snob it has a ton of great content and physics are very good. Adaptive ai can be very challenging too.

takes a few races to get the adaptive AI up to speed but once it has, it's a real challenge to keep up with them :)

I don't care so much about the graphics, R3 graphics are fine. I like the idea of not having to upgrade my computer every 5 years (ACC?) to run it.

Being in Australia is worse for online. Only way is part of a league, but enjoyable Single Player game play.

I really enjoy Playing Raceroom, especially on my favourite tracks. My biggest problem is the track limits settings. I find that I have a hard time getting in a good timed lap, because I’m always going to wide. This may just be my driving style, or something. JMK

Nice review mate, I've always thought raceroom feels great from the pure driving aspect despite maybe lacking some of the features and modern graphical quality of some other current driving sims. Great single player too. I agree its always been underrated. If they could only just generate more interest on the multiplayer side. Anyway great to see your channel growing 👍

thsanks Kevin. as a driving experience its an awesome sim. we're hoping to generate some activity tonight in the livestream, it's so underrated, agreed that its showing its age visually but on the older engine i don't think theres really much more they can do with it. a tweak or two here and there for the multiplayer would be awesome :) thank you for the kind words re: the channel, it's growing, the community is growing and it's a pleasure to be here.

The vrp weirdness is because of steam. They don't allow a link to buy vrp in game because it circumvents their own purchasing system and they don't get a cut. So the weirdness is to save you money. But yeah, annoying.

I suppose in-game purchases give steam the store cut hence works out more expensive, buying externally and directly from their own site it's cheaper for us and raceroom makes all the money, understandable. I've only played the game a couple of times and hadn't looked at buying anything yet but glad I know we can go directly to their store, thanks :D

@@KnowerofThings I bought the prem pack in 2019. you can only buy the packs once. so when you buy then new content as its released, you get a discount on stuff you already own. if you were to buy ther premium pack right now, you'd get everything raceroom has to offer!

Interesting... Haven't been in Raceroom myself for a while either. Note that if and when they update the FFB you should usually completely reset your preferences. The thought of having to reconfigure everything is partly what has been keeping me from returning 😁 Do the AI still dive bomb you, or maybe it was the fact that I'm just Captain Slow...

I appreciate that resetting everything might be a pain but trust me, the ffb has been really simplified so you haven't got umpteen sliders to configure. the AI ccan dive bomb if you leave the door open but that's properly what human opponents do to so i'm all good with that and defend like im online.

I love raceroom, but it started losing players when it changed the servers every fortnight instead of weekly and they need to move off of dx9 and update the graphics. Personally I’m the same as you I race vr and my personal favourite sims are rf2 and raceroom which are the least attractive sims in vr, but for me the driving experience surpasses the other sims. But people have different preferences and those that can’t get passed the dated graphics choose something else. It’s on raceroom to update graphics and get their servers back to changed weekly and then it will grow again. Until they do unfortunately for us that love it, the player base is going to shrink very gradually.
